Rare colors for a first generation venture

Recommended Posts

If I have posted in the wrong area or this question has been asked before please excuse my ignorance as I did not find it in the search function. My question is as a new venture owner who is custom resurrecting an 85 royale, what would the rarest colors be for a bike as this? I do not mean only factory optioned colors as I have found that information but maybe a color no one really sees a lot of even on a forum as this. I have searched as much as I can with google and other search engine but they pretty much limit me to stock bike configurations. I would like my bike to stand out and am trying to decide on a color that not many else have. I have one in mind but am doing my research first. I have done the same thing on my last project and painted a 1984 virago the atomic orange color from a 98 corvette. It turned out well and I have received a lot of compliments so I am hoping to achieve the same results with my new project but want to use a different color.

Thanks for the replies and pics. It gives me a great idea of what might look good to me on these bikes. My original thought was to paint it orange as my previous bike but I wanted something different. As I was looking through a book of paint chips I had one color stick out and it caught my eye. It comes on the 2010 Camaro SS and it is called synergy green 708S. I find it bright for visibility and feel that with the black on a venture it will reduce the boldness of the color. If I choose to go with this color I am still undecided if I will try to two tone it or stripe it with another color or not. The next concern is if I will need to change my seat color from brown or not to make the bike look right. So many thoughts on this.... Opinions on this? I am trying to see the big picture and not just a small part of it.

Yes the pic of the above venture is very close to my virago which was my first project bike. My color is atomic orange from the Z06 Corvette. I bought the virago in Oct 2013 as scrap that had sat in a shed for 24 years, rebuilt it from ground up and started riding in April to roughly 8000 km. My wife wanted no part of bike so I bought a very clean one owner virgin Harley fxrs and was going to use the Harley for my 2015 year ride but a few months after that purchase my wife asked to ride with me and now has a growing interest as a passenger. With her change of heart and my craving a cross country solo road trip on limited funds I decide to get a bike that she can ride on with me that will be larger for her comfort and my solo trip. With my first yamaha project being so positive I thought I would repeat my course of actions and see if lightning strikes twice. I did not have my venture at first but found a goldwing as a worst case scenario. I am a tall guy and I find the venture is a better fit and better for my needs so the wing was cast aside. I am acquiring the venture on trade as payment for a full tune up and installation of a timing belt and water pump on a lexus rx300. I will have no cash invested in this trade only labor and that will allow me to drop about $1500 in parts into the venture for a full rebuild, thank you online auctions. My labor is a labor of love and to know that it is rebuilt correctly to not have problems when I am half way across the country. Pegasus I believe you are correct as the green is really growing on me and it is a current color so the bike will look newer. I am undecided if I will reinstall the chrome from my royale as it in my opinion has a little too much for a color as that. My venture seems to have more chrome on it than most pics I have seen. I prefer a blacked out treatment over the chrome and I think I will be removing the stereo and intercom as I would rather use my blue tooth equipment and would like to place a waterproof pocket where the radio is currently to hold my cell phone and a charging dock. I will respectfully post pics once the bike is done but right now it is too embarrassing. Please anyone else feel free to chime in as my mind is wide open until I start the prep work and order the paint. Besides the previous owner of my venture still is waiting on parts for his lexus and I want to finish my end of the trade prior to investing in the bike.

Okay guys, I have the sellers RX300 in my shop as I type this. Tomorrow I will do my part of the trade and get the title in my hand. I already had the itch on the venture and have it torn down to the frame and engine meaning ALL body components removed and making a list of items needed. I suppose I will have to take some pics of it at this stage and as I work through it then post them. I have pulled and flushed the fuel tank and pulled the cooling system components to get access to the starter that I tore apart, cleaned up and lubricated to correct the slow crank problem. I pulled the carbs apart and cleaned them and now the bike starts quickly on crank. I also straightened the lower crash guards as I was in the general location. I have gone over the wiring and and removed the stereo, intercom, antenna and also am returning the cooling fan to stock operation as someone had it bypassed to a switch. I want everything to work correctly or better. Should I start a new thread on this resurrection? Maybe compile a bunch of pics and then post all info at the same time? Well one way or the other I will start investing in the project after I have title. The only thing I have invested in so far is the paint. It will be synergy green and I have put aside the idea of two tone. Now I am contemplating powder coat on some items..... I will be poking my head in on and off as I keep busy in the shop.

If it were me, and I did do this, I would pick up a complete 2nd gen Venture trans along with a V-Max final drive. You can usually get the trans and final drive for less than $200. I think I have about $160 in mine. The change from original is about 10% lower in 1st, 5% lower in 2nd, 3rd and 4th the same and 5th about 5% higher. I love the lower 1st gear, especially for pulling a trailer and the higher 5th keeps me from feeling I need to upshift one more time while running 65 or more on the interstate.

If you have any questions, give me a call.
