Venturous Randy Posted March 23, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2012 It is getting that time of year when we are going to start using bungee cords and I just wanted to warn everyone to be cautious. When being stretched, they can pack a wallop if they come loose. Also, it just seems natural to pull them toward you when hooking them. These things can very quickly take out an eye or cause other injury. RandyA

Carbon_One Posted March 23, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2012 Another thing to keep in mind is being sure what is being tied down is secured good. I have seen where bundled jackets have slipped and fell off of pillions and getting caught up in wheels. Larry
XV1100SE Posted March 23, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2012 Also keep in mind that they dry out over time and should be replaced when the elastic inside becomes brittle. Helmet nets are great for strapping things down !
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted March 23, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 23, 2012 many medical groups including otemetric groups have been trying to have them taken off the market for years. many job sites have banned them from use. they are very dangerous. etcswjoe Posted March 23, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 23, 2012 Thanks for the heads up and I wll put my two cents worth in too, the hooks tend to bend eaiser as they age and will not hold as much before they let loose.
Venturous Randy Posted March 23, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted March 23, 2012 Lesson learned, eh. Hope you didn't get hurt too bad...... Fortunately, I did not get hurt, but after loosing an eye already, I have gotten a lot more aware of how easy these things can happen. twigg Posted March 23, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 23, 2012 Bungee cords are the spawn of the devil ... Yeah, I know we all use them from time to time, me included. Much better are ratchet straps ... and you can get quite small ones.
tomfromhull Posted March 23, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 23, 2012 This is the first time I've told anybody this because it's so embarrassing. A long time ago I was pulling up on one to hold a canvas on a dumpster and it broke. I punched myself in the mouth and the hook went up my nose. Fat lip and a bloody nose. Note to self.........
