this just made me sick. Its probably a good thing Im not there as I may be tempted to send him to meet god and see if hes wright. Now the westboro church is going to protest a funeral of 7 kids that died in a house fire as they are syaing its the wrath of god because they live in the same state that the initial lawsuit against the westboro church was taken out.Any patriot guard riders near by.

And Don if this is too inflamitory or political please remove this thread. Not meaning to start anything I just had to vent

Yes, David, we have a very active group in our area, of which I am a part. However, the Patriot Guard Riders only stand for military and first responder funerals. At least that has been the past practice. I know alot of people thought we should have been there for the Amish girls that were murdered not far from here a few years ago, because the WBC was there. That's not how it works. Personally, I wish we could be there for this family, but unless the rules have been changed recently by the National Board of Directors, the PGR will not be there on an official "Mission." May God bless the family, and give them strength for the days ahead. Don.

Those people are so stupid and inconsiderate of that family's grief. How can they think God wants them to do that!

No matter what they CLAIM is their motivation, DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT!!! This is all about MONEY, period! They just want to antagonize someone into assaulting them so they can sue the municipal and/or state governments for failing to protect their first ammendment right to free speech, under the "due process" clause of the 14th ammendment. This is about making money, nothing more. Don.

Thanks Don,

I am a pgr member myself.I didnt know the rules on that but was only hopeing. As prviously stated its probably a good thing I'm not closer as they would probably have a reason to sue someone. ME included.

Again with all due respect as I know there are many out there with many diferent opinions and I dont mean to infame or iritate anyone. I was and still am a little iritated and was and still am venting.

So if the family invited the PGR to stand for these chrildren, the PGR would decline because the children never had to opportunity to grow up and serve in the military?

The Patriot Guard Riders are not a counter protest group. We do not follow the WBC around just to hinder their activity. It has little to do with "current policy".

We are a federally recognized charitable organization and as such must operate under and be true to our originally stated purpose of "military support". As much as we would often like to, we can NOT go off mission.

That being said, the restraints that the PGR operates under does NOT stop members (or anyone else for that matter) from acting on their own behalf to block the activities of the UG's, as long as they don't do so under the banner of the PGR.

Just another attempt on their part for national television coverage. Of course it will be plastered on every channel throughout the country. Sure wish the media would not cover them at all, then they would either fade away or have to do something illegal and then be stopped.

Again, it doesn't matter if the Patriot Guard Riders are invited to this service or not. The PGR can NOT attend.

We need to understand that the PGR and it's body are bound by its mission parameters

and cannot go away from them! I am sure that as private people, their hearts are breaking for those little girls. They as the PGR must distance themselves.

The Supreme Court ruling on Snyder vs Phelps is a tragic result of our own system, but must be upheld as it stands. Only one judge (Alito) dessented and he did a valiant and intelligent dissention, but that's the way it has to be done. Very unfortunate for the Snyder Family that was exposed to the Phelps' vision! That kid was a hero and Phelps smeared him!

Absolutely. It's about the attention.

If everyone would ignore them they'd crawl back under their rocks.

The family of the seven children are either Mennonite or Amish I know the community is. They have a way to take care of their own. The funeral and burials will be on private property. I believe the community will protect the family from WBC. I really doubt they would ask the guard due to their heritage.

I was just thinking, (something I'm told I shouldn't do), the reason the WBC gets so much press at these protests is that they actually make it there, get set up, and have an audience. What if they never make it to the funeral service in time to cause any harm. No, I don't mean anything violent. But, if the hundreds of "counter protestors" would, lets say have "car trouble" on the route that the WBC just happens to be taking? The funeral procession could take an unaffected route. They can't sue anyone for any bodily harm, or violation of their 1st amendment rights or for non protection under the 14th. It's snowing in PA, cars get stuck, have bad batteries, delays happen all the time around here. Just thinking that this would have such a positive outcome for the family to not have these jerks at the service. Even with a police escort, I don't think the PA State Troopers or the towing companies would be in any hurry to clear traffic.

I am just as frustrated as the rest of you.

Folks....let's please be very careful. I understand the anger and frustration that many folks feel about this but even the hint of the avocation of violence can put you and us in a bad position. I deleted one post and edited another that referred to it. I understand the sentiment but please be careful about what you suggest.

Straycatt,

You are absolutely right. I've attached an e-mail sent out to statewide membership from PA State PGR Captain Barry Bioni:

"To all Patriot Guard Members

I have had so many requests to attend the Clouse family funeral, that I must put out a state wide to address this issue.

This is a tragedy of overwhelming proportions. As most of you know, it will not and cannot be a PGR mission. The situation does not fall within our mission statement; our 501C-3 status and our incorporation status would be at risk. This does not mean that our members cannot attend but not as a PGR representative and no PGR patches, hats, vests or the like there of can be worn. Our heart goes out to the Clouse family."

Barry Bioni

Pennsylvania State Captain

PS: I've always thought it would be nice to have a group similar to the PGR (Non-violent, non-confrontational) whose sole purpose would be to go to ANY event the wbc decides to attend. I know it's not feasible (probably) but it sure would be nice. Don

Don't worry, I won't be posting anything again...for a while. Thanks.

I understand why the PGR can not help in a case like this. I'd like to ask why an organization like the CMA couldn't step in and help here. I have several friends in the local CMA chapter here. We ride with them occasionally. They meet the criteria of non-violent and non-confrontational. Seems to me it would be a good fit. Not their sole purpose but could help out in situations like this. CMA members, any comments?

Violence with these idiots just helps there "cause", no good will come, might make you feel better but everyone else will pay. The way to defeat them is to get with your politician and pass laws that restrict there access to funerals I don't mean ban them, just move them out of sight and hearing of the mourning family. That way they can be just as evil as they want but they won't get the press they need to continue. or if we're going to have hate speech apply it to them because I can't think of anything more hateful than protesting at a funeral!!!!
