Schlepporello Posted February 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2010 A friend of mine, who no longer rides, gave me a "Goodyear Racing" branded motorcycle jack. It's been a year or two since he's used it and he lost all the instructions that came with it. It's operation seems easy enough with the exception that I can't seem to make it go up. Anyone got an idea of what I might be doing wrong or at least have a scan of the manual that was supposed to come with this jack? Thanks in advance! Squidley Posted February 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2010 Do you have any pics of it? There aren't that many mfgrs that make the jacks.
Schlepporello Posted February 24, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 24, 2010 No sir, I sure don't. Granted, it doesn't look much different than other jacks I've seen. As far as I'm able to determine, I mash down on the big pedal repeatedly to raise the bike, then press the little pedal to drop it. The problem I'm having though is that it just doesn't seem to want to pump up.
Squidley Posted February 24, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 24, 2010 Many times there is a rubber plug where you put jack oil in. See if you can find this (it's usually on the top of the cylinder) and remove it. It might make a sucking sound as there could be a vaccume inside it. Or it could be low on oil
Schlepporello Posted February 24, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted February 24, 2010 Yep, i found that right off the bat. When I removed it, it blew across the garage floor and blew a stream of jack oil. Over-filled possibly?
Monty Posted February 24, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 24, 2010 There is probably a valve that you have to tighten to make it pump up...just like any other hydraulic jack.
camos Posted February 24, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 24, 2010 Just a wild guess but have you examined the small release pedal to see if the valve it activates is stuck in the open position?
Monty Posted February 24, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 24, 2010 Can't find much about it, other than Sam's Club sold it back in 2006 for $69.
Freebird Posted February 24, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 24, 2010 It has the large pedal to raise and the small one to lower, then I would agree that either the plunger on the small pedal is not coming back out or there is a bad seal or something on that small valve. I doubt it was overfilled, may be low now though.

I haven't gone as far as to check that yet, but I will.

Freebird Posted February 24, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 24, 2010 There shouldn't be a valve that you tighten up. They typically have either the small pedal OR the valve that screws in and out to lower but not both. Since yours has the small pedal, it won't have the screw valve. The small pedal will likely operate a "push button" type relief valve that could be stuck in the open position.
gibvel Posted February 24, 2010 Share #16 Posted February 24, 2010 Blue and Yellow? I've got the exact same one. I'll have a look and see if I can find the manual when I get home. I usually keep that kind of stuff. Doesn't sound like a problem that the manual would help with though. They're pretty simple so I'm thinking that the guys have it right with the relief valve being stuck open.
Condor Posted February 24, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 24, 2010 Got any weight on it?? Most will pump up. but without anything pushing down it'll just stay in the up position. Anyone remember if it's one of those models you have to push the pedal all the way down, for it to drop gradually. Otherwise it'll scare the 'H' out of you when it's only pressed lightly and drops at sonic speed.... ?????
truckin48 Posted February 24, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 24, 2010 I have the same jack and I bought it from Sams also. If you would like I can (or I will try and email you a copy of the owners manual, not the most computer literate person around) send you a copy. Give me a shout. Motorcycle Mike Posted February 24, 2010 Share #19 Posted February 24, 2010 I have one. The farther you push the pedal the faster it drops. It works fine untill the fluid leaks out of it. I cant find a replacement jack or seals to repair it so it is stored in the shed out back and I bought a Craftsman pro jack. I cant find the owners manual either. gibvel Posted February 25, 2010 Share #21 Posted February 25, 2010 Sadly, I didn't have a chance to look last night. Had to remove the mounds of Ice from my gutters before my front porch and driveway turned into skating rinks. I've got a note to look tonight. Schlepporello Posted February 25, 2010 Author Share #22 Posted February 25, 2010 Thanks! My biggest concern is if I'm missing something on operating this jack. I haven't checked for a stuck valve yet, but I intend to.
gibvel Posted February 26, 2010 Share #23 Posted February 26, 2010 Sorry, couldn't find the manual, which is odd for me because I've still got manuals from things that either broke or were replaced years ago.

Been workin' too many late nights on account of the snow.
