  2. That's usually how it goes! Can't wait to see what curve balls my 09 jeep throws my way when I drop the gas tank to replace the left rear upper control arm. I'm going to fill the flame wrench tanks before I even get started.
  3. I feel your pain. It seems no mater what the job is, something is gona go wrong and take me twice as long as it should. Shirley seldom askes how long its going to take any more. If she does I say "I don't know".
  4. Hit 100k while down here in Florida today.
  5. My youngest daughter's Honda Pilot threw a VVT, Bank 2 code. It persisted after a crank case flush and oil change. So, I ordered the Bank 2 VVT solenoid block and scheduled the morning for the repair. As with most repairs these days, there is more time involved getting all the ancillary stuff out of the way than the repair takes. This job was not so bad in comparison to some. I just had to undo a dozen electrical connections, pop the plastic wire race off the mount and unbolt the race mount from the front rocker cover to get the whole shebang out of the way to get to the mounting bolts for the VVT solenoid block. Getting at some of the electrical connectors was the hardest part. Extended reach hose pliers were required. After that, it was five minutes work to remove the three mounting bolts, pop the solenoid block off and remove the old gasket and divider plate. Five more minutes to put it back together finger tight and 20 seconds with a ratchet to snap one of the NEW mounting bolts off flush with the head. Of course, I don't have an easy out small enough, so off to AutoZone. I took it slow and, very carefully center punched the bolt, drilled it out about 1/2" deep and chucked my new 1/8-1/4" Easy Out up in the cordless. For a welcome change, the bolt turned right out, no problem. I cleaned everything up with a magnet and paper towels, and used the old bolts to put it back together. It's running right and sounds good. The whole job would have been under an hour if that NEW bolt hadn't snapped with less than 2 ft. pounds of torque.

  7. Glad it fixed the problem. We ran some errands on the bike today, gonna pre-ride a route tomorrow for the rally.
  8. Got the oil changed and checked/adjusted the tires' and suspension's air pressure. About an hour shakedown cruise and she's ready for her annual wash and wax tomorrow!
  9. Installed a new(to me) right rear header pipe on Black Cherry. Thanks RDawson! No more popping on deceleration. Now I can practice my MIG skills on the old header.

  13. I've already pulled compression, checked spark & changed plugs and narrowed it down to a fuel delivery issue before posing the question for parts here.

  15. Why not do a compression test just for fun to confirm the health of the engine.
  16. After a year a miscellaneous down time with stator & electrical gremlins, the time sitting has taken its toll on my fueling system. My '99 is missing on 1 cylinder, I've done the heavy dose of cleaner into the tank a few times and even direct injecting it into the carb bowl with no real help. So I think its time to pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning. With that, I have a few questions 1. Anyone done the Ivan's Performance Kit (Ivan's XVZ1300)? I know his fuel injection re-maps are well regarded, and since I'm already in there it might not be a bad idea since I have K&N filters & Harley SE Mufflers that could probably use a slight boost in fueling. 2. I know the gaskets are supposed to be reusable, but I question 25yr old rubber parts coming apart nicely. I did find Service Kits available (XVZ1300 Mikuni Service Kit) and while the DellOrtoShop shows US, its all based off a Netherlands company. Does anyone have known good place to buy genuine (not chinesium) parts?

  24. Does it die because it has no electrical power? Check all wiring and grounds by wiggling them to see i connections are loose. Possibly an add-on ignition relay problem like mine was. Click Here To See Ignition Relay Problem & Repair Does it die because it runs out of fuel? Fuel Pump after your 10 minute time period, should be clicking upon restart. If not, check fuel pump points.
