That is true. I saw a video about this seasoned rider and has been riding for years, but he said he is getting old...so he switched to a much lighter bike and ended with a BMW 1250 Adventure. I he very happy with his decision. I can see myself on one of these bikes someday in the future, but not sure how I am going to like cleaning the chains on a regular basis as recommended. Isn't she a beauty...

It’s not only the younger riders on these bikes, it’s also the ‘ahem’ more mature riders. (Old geezers). I’m at the CMA changing of the colors rally and the amount of old guys on these bikes is amazing!

Adventure bikes I think are becoming to be so popular to the younger generation. I've been watching several Reels on these types of bikes and group rides. The BMW 1300 Adventure always attracts my attention.
-
I was out this weekend for a ride. At our meetup location, Buc-ee's, there were quite a few groups greeting together and all were younger, no more than early 30's. They definitely don't ride baggers or touring bikes. A lot of crotch rockets and sport tourers. Probably saw 50 + bikes and more than half were younger.

Back in the 80s I rode my Honda 750 from Key Largo to the mainland (Homestead) via Cardsound Rd., which was the only other way besides US1 to get to the mainland, and there'd been flooding and I rode a few miles through about 4" of saltwater. Saltwater on a hot motor doesn't go well. That bike was never the same after that. I loved that bike but she weren't so pretty after that.
-
I hope we don't get to see salt on the roads for the rest of the year. Road salt is every bike's nemesis.
-
I know the time will come that I will sound exactly like you. (no more rides in the cold) We all age beautifully and we must all take care of our body. For the meantime, I try not to think about it too much. No worries, we still have lots of 'warm' tolerable days until the end of the year. Stay optimistic and ride safe.

There doesn't seem to be as many young people riding motorcycles these days. The majority of riders I see are older people and an awful lot of us are going to trikes. And it seems to me that Harley is the leader of bikes out there too. Of course these are just my crazy thoughts. 🤔

I was surprised to see that it was only 7% of Polaris' market share or income. I thought I've seen a bunch of Indians on the road. That being said, I've seen a ton of them in the dealership locally that haven't sold so that may be the reason why. I think the Ultra Luxury motorcycles are either going to be a thing of the past, or at least not be profitable for awhile due to the economy. No one can afford these bikes, and if you can afford them, you're probably too old to buy them. That or the Indian name is cursed!
-
Scary thought for those with newer Indian bikes. Seems like it’s becoming an all too familiar pattern for motorcycle brands.
-
i rode once a few years back on christmas day. went against my rule of no riding with salt on the road. spent 2 days trying to wash the salt out of the nooks n crannies of the bike. will never go against that rule again!
-
I agree with you for the most part. I used to ride in the winter a lot. Have ridden in snow and single digit temps. I guess I’ve gotten old. That is part of it. The other part though is that often the roads around here get heavilly salted once the weather starts turning bad. I just hate seeing my bike covered in salt.

Just read that Polaris had sold Indian. It will now be a stand-alone company. That tells me that it wasn’t profitable enough or was losing money. Have to wonder how long they will make it. https://www.cyclenews.com/2025/10/article/polaris-sells-indian-motorcycle-to-carolwood-lp/

We used to ride when it was around 10 celius, even did it at 4 to 6. As we got older the temps seem to have an effect on things so slowly the range has been decreasing. Now it's 20-22 or better and please not at 30. This year I only went for IC once and my wife didn't even ride once... such is life.
-
Dang, now where did I put those?...
-
Being from NE Ohio I've ridden in the snow a bit but moving to Houston . . . . Riding season never ends.
-
Yeah, Harbor Freight must make a fortune off their 4 and 10 packs.

I think 10mm sockets and wrench have become the ‘Bread and Butter’ of most hardware stores.

I respectfully disagree Don. Riding season is not coming to a close even riders like me and to anyone else in the east coast go through during the winter months. Cold weather riding is my favorite and I hope it is to ‘some’ riders out there as well. I never sweat. 😀. Please don’t get me wrong. I am not saying to anyone to go ahead a ride during the winter months. This is all about the rider’s decision to hang it up for the winter and wait for Spring or if you are like me, I ride during the winter months barring good road conditions free of snow, salt, grime and unsafe debris. I get it…some riders just don’t like cold weather and I understand that completely. However every time I see a rider all geared up and riding at 30° temps, I feel excited and I say to myself…if he is having fun, I can also have fun during the winter months. I am not responding to criticize or belittle anyone or make me look good and sound good. This is just me and I’ve enjoyed cold weather riding ever since. So FWIW, riding in the Spring, Summer, Fall and winter always have all the inherent dangers. It is important to ask yourself, ‘Are you ready to ride or not?’ If the answer is no, please don’t ride. Follow your gut, because Spring is only a few months away after all. With that said and if you have watched ‘Games of Thrones’, it is inevitable that WINTER IS COMING!

This'll be my last full Winter as a werkin' man. Took my RSV to "MY Guy" for carb work yesterday and I definitley felt Fall in the air. I guess I'm not a real Venturerider, "cause 35 is a bit chill for riding. I do get the folks that like to ride in cooler weather, but I don't get those who ride with snow / ice on the road...
-
Believe me. I get it.
-
What kind of nut are you? We of the Venture riding persuasion laugh at 35°!!! It’s still summer! It has to be since I haven’t gotten enough riding in yet! That makes sense, right?🥶🥶🥶

Hate to say. it but winter is quickly arriving here in NE Ohio. It was 35 this morning. Still supposed to get to 70 later today so riding is not over but I can feel it coming.

Trip to the last unridden states in the Lower 48.
Chaharly replied to Steve S's topic in Watering Hole
Congrats on your trip and I'm happy you made it home safely. That is also on my bucket list as well, to hit the lower 48 states. Good on your wife to take the plunge and do the ride herself! You two sound like quite the couple!
