Hey Paul, Check out this post: I believe you do have to remove that coolant hose, and the plastic tray between the frame and valve cover that the wires and hoses hide in. Drain about a quart of coolant from the radiator before removing the hose. With that hose and tray out of the way, there's just enough clearance to lift and slide that valve cover out the left side. Also check out this post - lots of pics doing a valve adjust and general clean up under the tank.

Steve, I have a friend who recently moved from his 2nd Gen Venture to a Can Am for similar reasons to what you mention. I went riding with him a couple of weeks ago. Not knocking the Venture nor GW trikes, but from what he said and I observed, Can Am looks like it would be a good choice.

Working on my 2008 Venture and have the rear valve cover all unbolted and free from the engine, I would like to have some explain how you can lift it high enough to slide out over the cam sprockets. II have tried all different movements with no luck at this point, it almost seems like I would need to remove the coolant hose as is somewhat between the frame and the cover to gain that space needed. It does not make sense that you would have to do that to change cover gasket. Someone with experience with this please help.

Hello Venture friends. I only got one short ride in last year, on November 19th, and broke my ankle that same day. It has rained so much this spring that I didn't try to ride until this week. I got 180 miles in on 2 different days and they were great rides, BUT I realized yesterday that I am going to have to go to a trike instead of the Venture. Between the back surgery and arthritis in my hips, it is a real struggle to manage the heavy weight of the Venture. I do ok when I get moving but getting on and off and moving around in tight places is very hard. I will be asking for advice or suggestions on different rides to check out. I want to stay with a touring ride, so a Goldwing trike looks good, but I am going to look at a Cam Am Spyder as well. Good luck to all. Steve.

Marcarl started following Looking to buy a new helmet and 1st Gen Venture in Lucknow

Saw a beautiful beige 1st gen travelling along hwy 8 Ontario the other day....believe that was Friday. Was that one of us?? Could have been me, but I didn't ride on Friday.

In my opinion the only way to buy a helmet is on fit. Size varies between manufacturers and head shapes vary with manufacturers only fitting certain shapes. I replace mine every five years and Shoei modular as my go to. I use a comm system between helmets blue toothed to our respective iPhones

That’s pretty rare now days. I seldom see a Venture anymore.

I have the LS2 Advant modular helmet and love it. The reason I like it is that when the chin bar is flipped open it rotates all the way to the back and is not sticking up like a sail to catch the wind. I'm not sure if it is available with the built-in bluetooth, but there are aftermarket options for that.
-
I would say that is much over stated but to say if you have compromised shoulder(s) and find it difficult on a 2 wheels then don't go to a Spyder would be more realistic.

The last time Marca and I bought helmets we decided on the brand and size, tried on 4 different helmets each and one had a nice fit for me but not quite for her, so the dealer ordered 4 more and one of those did do what we liked. You might get lucky going on line and maybe not, so how much comfort will you sacrifice for price?

I'm looking to buy a couple of helmets for the wife and I. Looking online, there's so many choices at different prices that it's a little overwhelming trying to pick one. I'd like a modular, with the flip down sunshield, preferably with an already installed Bluetooth system, primarily for music or intercom so Lisa and I can communicate while riding....and to hear GPS directions. While I don't want to break the bank, I'm willing to spend a bit more for comfort / functionality / simplicity. With Ventureriders being the most knowledgeable group on the web.....I thought I should ask for opinions... Anyone care to opine?

Good morning to all. Hard to believe, but it is here. June is right around the corner and hopefully warmer days are coming. Gradual clearing and rain should be over by noon. Ride safe and have a great day.

Not a lot you can do to the sound system without butchering bodywork due to space limitations. Polk D404 speakers fit fairly easily in place of OEM. A lot of us add a Bluetooth receiver in the front fairing plugged into a “Y” at the cassette box. This keeps the original controller working. Welcome to the circus here. -

Dennis Kirk has one on clearance... https://www.denniskirk.com/show-chrome/chrome-luggage-rack-for-tour-pak-91-306.p4903748.prd/4903748.sku -
Hi, I just got a 2009 RSV. I'm loving almost everything about it. A couple of things though. First, has anyone come up with a way to reprogram the cruise control to get rid of the 81mph upper limit? I live in San Diego and riding at 80 MPH will get you flattened on the freeway 🙂 And second, not a problem with the bike, but I'd like to add a luggage rack to the helmet box, anyone got a recommendation for a good one? In the future, I'm hoping to do some changes with the integrated sound system, but I'm not eager to break things right away :-) Thanks for listening guys, it's nice to be here

I've never test ride one, but I think I can see what you mean. Turning can involve a little bit of shoulders and some twisting on the torso perhaps especially on sharp turns.

Steering is power assisted but it still takes more input than a Venture, normally wouldn't be an issue but if your arms or shoulders have a weakening effect the difference will be noticed.

I really thought the steering is power assisted, but I may be wrong.

My wife had one for about 3 years and there was nothing wrong with it. Never any issues. she stopped riding out of fear (and weak shoulders). She had a close call on a ride that scared her pretty bad. The spyders do take a lot more shoulder input than a bike or trike.

I was thinking about getting a Spyder but y'all are scarin' me a bit.
