Any thoughts?

Just a thought-

Has anyone considered creating a letter to Yamaha from this group as a whole, signed by any of our members that want to, that would express our collective admiration about our ventures as well as our frustrations with recurring issues (i.e. the whine), the lack of updates and give our suggestions regarding new models?

The idealistic part of me would like to think that if we were able to send this (ultimately as a hard copy as well as electronically) to one of the upper Yamaha corporate officers that it may at least peak their interest. Even though the cynic in me says "what's the point", I've always tried to live by the motto that if you don't try to improve things you don't have the right to complain.

 

I'm a fairly new venture owner, and maybe not intimately familiar with all of the venture issues, but I would be happy to help in creating such a letter with help from the group if the interest was there.

Great idea Todd. When I was a member of the Vulcan Riders Owners Club (VROC) couple of years ago, we had and probably still have a large membership. I started a local chapter here in Southern California, LAVROC.

KAWASAKI knew about us and the main club VROC. We would receive invitations to tour their corporate facilities in Irvine, CA. After the tour, take us for a scenic escorted ride and at the end of the ride, treated us all to an outstanding lunch at a restaurant! They asked our opinions on what we thought of our various bikes, etc. They knew that we were an asset to the company. BTW...I still have some items from my 04 Vulcan Nomad, a nomad service manual, bag inserts for the hard saddle bags. Anyone that wants these let me know. $100..there yours and I'll donate the $100 to the server!!

Many have stated, and I personally agree, that the group on rswarriors.com brought about the two recalls on the warrior. Especially since one of the recalls took care of a known problem that wasn't really a part of the recall. As a group, especially this large, it would be foolish of them not to heed the concerns as well as the praise.

I'd sure support that idea - especially listing the MANY positives first.

I agree with the positives. The naysayers might look a lot closer at what we are getting for the money versus what HD,Honda,or anyone else gives.For the 8to 12 thousand more that you would give for another brand of bike you still don't get the 5 yr warrenty. Color? For 2 to 4 thousand you could have a custome paint job put on it and have your own favorite color! Sorry but the grumpy oldman complain about every thing gets old.

I'm riding one of the best bargains in touring bikes on the market today. Is it the fastest? No,but I ain't out to set no speed records,I'm in for the comfort,and the great way I feel when a stranger walks up and tells me how beautiful my bike is.

For the 8to 12 thousand more that you would give for another brand ....

 

8-12 Thousand more? Last time I checked, I could pick up a new Wing for under 17 (MSRP 19,400 or so). I think all I'd be missing is the CB, and I would have a tach. '08 RSV MSRP is about 2 grand less, although I don't know how far down a dealer would go. I'm not sure I understand what numbers you're comparing.

 

I agree about the positives, but telling Yamaha what changes (don't call them "negatives") would improve the bike is also a good idea. Won't get what you want if you don't ask!

My aunt is very close friends with the CEO of sales for Yamaha motors division. If someone drafted a letter and everyone signed it, she said she would be more than happy to hand deliver it to him. This would ensure that it was recieved and read by a real person.

The first rule in negotiating is "You never know what you can get till you ask for it" Lets ask.

 

After all, What better way to "Stalk" new members than to have Yamaha recomend us...:)

I think if we all signed individual letters and mailed them it might get their attention even more. Can you imagine 1000 letters from one group! Would let them know we cared enough to sign it and mail it rather than electronically attaching names, which could appear it really only came from one person. If I have time today I will draft a simple, but to the point letter and put it out for folks to download, add their name and sign.

Which letter would we send? There are 2 schools here 1st Gen and 2nd Gen. I wouldnt necessarily be eager to sign a letter for more 2nd Gen looks..... I guess there would have to be 2 letters kinda like our recent elections different schools of thought.

I would like to think that they would respond but don't get your hopes up. Yamaha Canada attended our rally there and were a fantastic group of folks. Yamaha USA won't give us the time of day. I've written to them, emailed them, etc. inviting them to visit our site. I know that they have but I've never gotten a single response from Yamaha.

I have posted this before. The last time I was at Tallahassee Powersports there was a new guy there from Wisconsin. He worked at a yamaha dealership for 14 years and said he went to many yamaha dealer meetings. He said his experience with yamaha was that they don't listen to dealers and couldn't care less about what they say. He said yamaha makes a good product but they do what they want to do and don't listen to anyone else. I recently talked to a Kawasaki dealer in Thomasville, Georgia that raced motorcycles until two years ago and is very knowledgeable about all motorcycles. He said Kawasaki listens to suggestions from their dealers and has implemented changes requested by their dealers. He had just returned from their dealer meeting where they asked for the dealers opinion about the new touring bike and if there was anything they would change about the bike. I would be inclined to agree with the guy at the yamaha dealership. I also don't think yamaha cares about this web site. I have mentioned this site to yamaha when I have called the headquarters in California and to district people with yamaha. They act like they don't hear me.

If they aren't careful YAMAHA will follow the lead of american auto manuf. of the 70's. Remember when everything under the sun was an add on? or, how bout rusty bodies after 3 years.

 

Then aong comes Toyta, just for an example. They throw in a bunch of add on's included in the base price and put plastic inner fenders so the gravel doesn't chew thru undercoating and cause tremendous amounts of rust...

 

They did this because they saw a way of getting ahead of the competition....
