The wife and I did a charity ride last week. Lots of bikes and people. So we are ridin with a group and come to a stop sign. I stop and proceed when a guy behind me decides he's gonna try and pass me up. Im in second gear and i hear his metric vtwin creepin up next to me. I figure i will give my bike a good run and see if i can keep up with this guy. I twist the throttle and my wife grabs the back of my jacket. Off we go and we are both turnin and burnin. It was kind of close there for a bit but i was surprized that i was actually keeping up and pulling ahead slowly. At 7k i shifted to 3rd and then the distance between us started to get large. I could hear his bike rappin out as he shifted gears but it seemed like he just ran out of throttle. I was a little self conscious about riding an older bike amongst all the newer bikes but i do like this bike. After keeping up with the pack and holding my position, I like it even better. I had no idea this bike could hold its own up to newer bikes. A few people checked out my bike during a break. They thought it was a Goldwing til they saw the Yamaha on the back. Yamaha should have promoted this bike a little harder and longer. I saw a few Ventures and talked to a few people who were riding them. Even saw an 83 with a sidecar.

I received a invite to a meeting in Bakersfield on the 29th of this month. It sounds like someone wants to start a new Star Touring Chapter! After looking at the website, It looks like they are a very formal and tightly controled group with lots of rules and regs. How do some of you that are members of Star Touring feel about their chapters? I once was a member of HOG out of Bakersfield back in the 80's and they were a very informal group of people, just looking for other people to ride with...times have really changed since then. Now, all you see are herds of Harleys on the road together.

Last evening at the community pig roast there was another one. A friend of mine who I used to ride with bruised and battle scared from a motorcycle accident. It's a shame that one of the most enjoyable past times ( riding a motorcycle) has to be so dangerous. The danger I'm talking about is circumstances beyond your control. Cagers,Deer, etc things that in a split second no amount of safety training or equipment can provide an escape. I have a level of confidence in my ability, and I rarely ride at night to lower the deer incident probability, but cagers scare the #@^#* out of me. The things I see on the highway and people pull out in front of me in my company truck where is there mind. I often see vehicles going down the highway that are not safe to be on the road. And drivers sometime act like there stoned out of there mind. I've never had a broken bone ever but the fact is If I was to go down and be laid up for a year. I would loose my job, only have 5 available sick days per year with 120 hrs max carry over, and it wouldn't take long to exhaust everything I've saved for 30 years. The scary thing is when I take a look at my down line of dependents. Wife, kids, grandkids, dad living next door. The quality of life for a lot of people would change. I enjoy a good test run once in a while but I'm glad I don't ride careless like I use to.Still a lot to think about.

Tonight in the news they announced that the Harley Davidson plant here in York PA is closing for 4 days around thanksgiving - 4 unpaid days for the workers. Slow sales was the reason given. I hated to hear that. They said a lot of the people would be off hunting ---

Does anyone know what type of exhaust tempretures at the head the 1st Gens run or how much of of a differential between cylinders I should look for. I have one of those laser tempreture readers. My bike has an exhaust smell like possibly unburned fuel people have told me and sometimes I feel it might be running on 3 cylinders but seems to run pretty well.

Hello... I just purchased a 2006 RSV. Matter of fact, I traded my '99 Victory for it last Friday. Anyways.. I've been hearing people talking about the new fuels with 10% ethanol and all... Some people have suggested that I put a fuel additive in from "time to time". What is this additive and what will it do for me? If this is not going to mess anything up and work wonders for my bike, what brand names do you all suggest? SpEEd Safely CG

A number of years ago I met my wife for lunch and when we came out it was raining. I had to park right next to a six lane blvd. next to a telephone pole aabout ten feet from the road. I was in a hurry to put my rainsuite on and got one leg in and was tring to put the other leg in when I lost my balance and fell to the ground. As was my luck the traffice light was red, and about one hundred people were stopped. I looked up and people were laughing. Needless to say I jumped up and didn't look at any of them. Leaned against telephone pole and got the other leg in,got on my bike and left. That was embarrassing! Gene Weir:rotf:

Here's a link to a Lake Tahoe newspaper about a local boy that was killed in Iraq. Tom (Dkknight) had to notify the parents that he was killed last week. This week he was one of the people that did the honorable transfer. In the picture in the article, Tom is the soldier on the left front side of the picture. http://www.tahoedailytribune.com/article/20061017/REGION/110170048
