    amp mounting

hey,, I need some info on how to mount an amp in the trunk , right now the amp is resting against a bazooka tube,,not very secure , the amp is a Alpine MRPF 240 ,, would love to add a bigger amp but don't know if the bike's electrical system can handle it,,or if it can be mounted in the trunk,, any info would be really helpfull .
  2. are the 1st generations speakers just regular speakers or are they weather resistant? What would be a good upgrade without adding an amp
  3. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I was able to aquire a CB and amp etc out of a 90 VR to put into my 84 which comes with nothing. I got the AMP, the CB, front and rear controllers and SOME of the wiring. It appears I am missing something. Not sure how this goes together. I have one hole open on the AMP that has to go to one of the headsets. I have a wire with split in it that looks to go to the front and a headset can be plugged into it as well as a hand mic (which I got as well) but it dosen't have a wire to plug into coming from the AMP. This is the wire I think I'm missing. I also don't seem to have anything to plug the controllers into. There is a 3 point plug part way down the one cable that I do have coming from the AMP but the plug isn't the same. Question is can someone tell me what I need. Point by point what gets plugged into what so I can look for the missing parts. (maybe someone might even have the missing parts??) Any help would be appreciated... Wayne
  4. On electrical issues I can usually trace wires and get things to working, but need some advice. My bike has a 60 watt sealed headlight. It is served by a 15 amp fuse because I just looked. Tomorrow I am going to install a fancy set of driving spotlights and each spotlight is 50 watts.....for a total draw of 100 watts .....maybe not a draw? Just output? If the factory set up with a 60 watt rating is served by a 15 amp fuse,,,,,what size fuse should I install for the driving lights? Instead of hooking into the low beam headlight wire I am going to run a single wire from the battery to the running light power wire(it will be grounded to the frame) So how many amps does a 100 watt out put on a single wire really draw? If using power or watt formula....it is only pulling 9 amps? So really would not hurt to tie into the low beam wire?? This is why high power driving lights can be wired into the existing wires like a dealer does? and still run off a 15 amp fuse?
  5. Today, I have made an inquiry to J&M, about their JMCB2003 for connecting into the 1st gen VR Mk1 amp. I am awaiting their reply back, will update as I have more info to pass on. But here is what I had sent them "A few of us 1st Gen Venture Royale (1200cc early model 83-85) owners from http://WWW.VENTURERIDER.ORG, have been looking at adding CB onto our bikes. It is difficult to find all the components needed, for the optional OEM CB. Is it possible to patch your JMCB2003, into the din jack of the OEM amp (right angle plug required), that is provided for an optional CB. The bike is equipped with AM/FM radio, cassette deck & intercom when your YV-41 interface cables are installed, this all passes through the OEM amp. If I remember correctly it is a 6 pin din jack for the CB in the amp, if needed I will go to where the bike is stored for the winter & check. I am not sure which model would be best for this adaption, probably the dual or the Honda GL1500, as some will let the wife talk on the CB. "
  6. Has anyone changed their speakers? I am sure a lot of you have. I am thinking of replacing the speakers with decent 2 way speakers for better highs and midrange. Damn, no place for a sub! Has anyone ever added an amplifier? I am thinking of a small sized 100 watt amp (4 x 25). Is there a decent quality small compact sized amp that can be used on the Venture? Would it be relatively easy to hook up? Looking forward to your replies. Greg
  7. Finally tore though the system and narrowed down all the problems to the Amp itself and the antenna. Antenna replacement is on the way but trying to find an amp is becoming rather tricky. Of course the con artists at the bike junkyards on ebay would be more than willing to sell me one for 300-500 bucks but then we all know where they can shove them with those prices. Anyone know of a place to look that's reasonable or happen to have one they would like to part with?
  8. Hi all, I am trying to track down a used 2nd gen amp for a project on my bike. Does anyone have one that they would sell to me or do you know of any wrecking yards that are parting a 2nd gen? Thanks, Greg
  9. I was hoping to get a confirmation here before I go buy something I don't need. When I bought my used '89 VR the radio station was stuck on 101.8. None of the controls (on top , rider thumb, or passenger) would control the station. I got a radio and plastic parts off ebay, then replaced all the parts and found the radio still stuck on the same station?????? SO.... after some looking around I have come to suspect that the Radio tuner and CB tuner are actually in the Amp and the panels on the faring are just input controllers like a keyboard. Anyone out there have any ideas on this? The COM system and CB work fine and the tape player (mostly) works, it takes a few times to get the tape to start and then to auto flip to the other side but it works. I am hoping that a replacement AMP will fix things up.
