No disrespect to any part of NC, because it's my top 3 places to live someday. It's amazing. Just wanted for ME, to try someplace I've never been.
-
Eck statement and participation if picked is the reason I chose Davis, WV. I also saw the link from slow roll and I've never been there. Want to try something different.

i checked out the 2 links and to be honest, this city boy feels WV has some great stuff to do and the scenery looks amazing. Most of us easterners have been to NC, maybe even by way of VOGEL. I have to be honest, I didn't expect WV to be on my radar, but it certainly is now. Thanks slowrollwv...

Before I place my vote, may I ask the approximate months the others will be hosted at?

For me, I am like the opposite of our Northern brothers in winter. I rarely if at all ride in this heat. With heat index in triple digits all the time, I can't enjoy. I also gear up at the time so I just bake. It's not fun. From mid June to mid sept, I really don't ride much unless it's interstate and with someplace specific to go.

Have you ever had thoughts of hanging it up on riding?
Barrycuda replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
Eck, the previous posts all make valid points and in the end, what ever you choice isn't permanent. Since you have the bike, maybe take time away and see about other interests. See how you feel when you witness a bunch of bikes on the road? Maybe you will get the spark back, maybe not. I agree, once it feels like a job, a chore, it isn't fun anymore. I took many years off playing music and studying stick and knife fighting because I HAD TO...keep up, what about this or that. Now I've recently regained that spark while adding things like MC riding, firearm tactical training and taking college classes. Point is, no matter what you decide we all want what's best for you. You're an awesome guy, a great friend and by no means is this end. Perhaps purposely pick a unique destination, close or far. Pick different times and people to ride with to make things more spontaneous or at very least not so vanilla. I at times wonder what if I get into an accident etc. This summer I've BARELY ridden. So in the mean while, I do other things. Don't stress, don't over analyze. The answer is there with time. PS: to you and other riders, don't ignore your body and it's need to stretch, loosen up and get ready for a ride. Sitting keeps us tight... -
+1 1- people who don't want to work and blame this phantom disease called Fibromyalgia. Yet same ones you see bowling, rock climbing and swimming. 2- car that waits just until your speeding along just to pull out in front of you and do 2 mph 3- people who cut their fingernails in public. I go ape **** from that, especially at a restaurant. 4- lazy parents allowing their bratty kids to run amok at grocery stores or other establishments where a nice whack on the butt is needed 5- here in Florida, cars and truck with the gigantic ,unnecessary rebel flag blowing across town as they drive this ratty, stereotypical raised up 10inches for no reason FORD or DODGE 6 grown men who have no concept on how to NOT urinate on the floor in front of the bowl last but not least... if you use the toilet, please men and women, show some dignity and class, wash your F*#king hands for crying out loud, you disgusting, disease spreading, lazy ass...

I enjoy both bikes. My Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 I have had since 2003 ( it's a 2000) I ride the wing a bit more, I'd say 65/35 only because I have had the bike a little over a year and wanted to ride this out of state which I already have done 2 x. That said, when I am on the Vulcan, she gets my undivided attention and I usually rack up about 100-200 " local miles" -
Well travelled riders, please come with your thoughts and ideas...

I will need yammer Dan, you or skid with me down these WV small places. They get one look at me, listen to my NYC accent, and there might be some shenanigans going on at my expense... -

If the SC crew can swing by, then it is a cheaper day then going to dealer. Soda and sandwiches are a great way to make friends and learn about the RSV. I believe the venture is a Luxo touring bike. It can and will run coast to coast many times over. Is comfortable and is bulletproof. I don't mean to come off nasty in last message but at some point if you're not happy, you have to make a change. I, as with the others think you would be doing yourself a disservice by giving up just yet on the RSV, especially with these VR riders willing to come out your way. These RSV riders know as much and I'd bet MORE than most dealers. -
This year I have planned on taking a few days off in Oct. 14-18, to make some sort of road trip. I have a few options and would like to hear from those who travel cross country a lot this time of year for some ideas or thoughts on what I suggest here. Please provide guidance on weather in X part of country GW guys head up that week to Bryson city, NC for the chili cook off etc. I currently have booked reservations right on Main Street and was considering that. Other options include riding from Florida to upstate newyork/ niagara falls -Canada iron butt run of coast to coast on 50 hours run west to hot springs Arkansas, run middle of country stop at a few places in Texas. all these ideas, with limited time. I can safely ride the GW 1000 miles a day with no issues. But, do I take scenic route? Super slab? What small town places would I discover but never thought of? I am up for all suggestions. Thanks in advance for some of your wonderful ideas. I am am also up for riding with anyone or a bunch of people, as this trip finds me riding out solo.

Looking for some input......................
Barrycuda replied to DragonRider's topic in Watering Hole
Thats why I didn't go, because you weren't there . Nice to see you posting again this is from my viewpoint from the previous Vogel i love the location and the lodging. I didn't care for the restaurant. Perhaps have less raffles, but just have people donate more money for the cause. more time to ride in a large or broken up groups to see the sights and enjoy the scenery. Perhaps dedicate time to ride the skyway or dragon. Vogel as a whole is awesome. If Trish, Steve K, myself and others can get the GWers to support St. Jude it would be better turnouts. Perhaps incorporate breakfast and or lunch runs near by for those that wish. I met some great VR members from Vogel and I'd do it again -

i will say this before I reply: people who met me, know me and deal w me know I am an easy going member, who is always willing to be friendly and help and don't cause friction amongst members that said... question 1- WHO TOLD YOU? The previous owner or dealer who wanted it sold? As far as equal to GW, that a up for debate but it is a highly reliable, extremely well made bike that has quirks like ALL bikes and ALL ferraris. I rode half way across the country in torrential rains from central Florida to NW Tennessee and back with the same friggin storms on that venture and I did nothing but purr along.ni saw many a HD on the side of the road. Mind you, this was also my first BIG real trip, and knew of no one to rescue me. I say that not to impress but to impress UPON you the reliability of this machine. Like others stated, the whine can come from different sources and yes you may need to troubleshoot and figure out what is cause the earth shattering whine that has you so upset. The bike model and company as a whole is phenomenal. See how many on this forum ride 87,88,90, 2001,2003,2007 models, STILL working just fine, many people tour the country, Mexico and Canada many times over with this bike. I took my 2003 to Vogel and tail of the dragon 2 years ago, and the bike was as awesome before as it was on the dragon. It may be your bike has a temp issue per se, but there's a reason for it. The model itself is not a lemon... 2- did you test ride it ? was the whine there then? If no test ride than... 3- did you do diligent research? I'm not a RSV guru, but I did seek out advice of those who have had, dealers and even FREEBIRD himself before I bought the bike to give me some ideas. This forum has given you a TON of options to explore that the dealer would either not know, price gouge or some combo of the two. My 2cents which is 1.5 cents too much is to explore cheapest options like oil and fluids etc. decide if you want the bike or just sell or trade it for your quiet GW or quiet BMW. All bikes are going to have something. Again, see what you want. Do you want the the bike to be perfect? you'll be disappointed. And it's not very realistic. Even my almost flawless GW needs some things fixed or dealt with. The members here have been very helpful. Now it's time to actually DECIDE which course of action you want to explore keep the RSV and work on troubleshooting and solving the issue(or containing it) or abort and get something quieter. oh and the weight issue....its top heavy, get used to that, learn how to ride the motorcycle appropriately to never have to deal with a weight issue. GW weight the same but have distribution on lower end, however with practice and proper skill, you can ride a RSV down St.Patricks parade and not have any issues dropping the bike. Good luck on your decision -

If you're really wanting and expecting and demanding a smooth, quiet ride, then you may want to look for a GW or BMW. -
Mike, the next step up is progression and then the granddaddy is the traxxion. Ever try covering the forks with those fork gaiters? Or something similar. Where you live you're probably always getting road grime and sand on them causing micro scratches that build over time.

I also would participate and attend next years IR if it was to be held in Canada, WV, Wisconsin or the gulf coast of Mississippi. Quite frankly as looney as cowpuc is he does have a good point. That is meet at one central area, and then people can come and go as they wish for rides, food etc. not a bad idea. Perhaps that can be incorporated in the IR plans

Welcome to the forum. I owned a 2003 venture and still own a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 and you're right the clutch plates bit the dust earlier than expected. I have a GW now but will tell you this, this forum is bar none one of the greatest forums. The friendship and advice are not fake. That being said, the whine is a trait RSV have. Some more than others, some lower or higher pitched than others. In my particular case, when I switched from regular oil to MOBIL 1 full synthetic, the whine decreased a great deal, but is still there. It's a trait that goes from annoying to endearing. Once you get a few of the bugs fixed, your venture will be practically bulletproof and will afford you over 150-200K miles of pleasure. Do take the weight seriously. She is top heavy, but with proper techniques can be ridden safely and in control in slow speeds and in congested areas. Good luck with the wing. Ask questions here, and wait for the free " better than the dealer" responses to come your way. Rule of thumb here: didn't happen or isn't true without pictures so show us that sweet girl of yours... -
nice to see you back on the forums Break Pad. My GW has the tag ROCNWNG. Mainly be 98% of my music is rock, metal, progressive metal. And if you ever ride behind me, you'll always see me tapping my foot

Last year, 2 days before Christmas we were heading to Tennessee and my card isn't working when already in route. Long story short, bank says cards hacked and they had to close them down and issue us new ones. What a drop in the stomach feeling! Especially with the family in the car. Needless to say I'm skeptical about certain places and certain types of folk. Thing was, whoever had the card was in Illinois, not Florida. I'm just glad my money was reimbursed right away from BOA
