  1. air filter is probably a big part of the problem, i took the k&N out of my bike after the top collapsed. and i didn't find the flow was real amazing either.
  2. have a quick recovery, and check your lines for air. i had almost the same thing happen to me once just with more warning, smelt a little burning the bike began to slow and then started squealing. by the time the bike was on the shoulder it wouldn't move.
  3. got it on my rear and have ridden through some nasty stuff no slipping or squirrelenes
  4. depends on how far you lean it i drag just about everything down there, pegs, pipes, center stand, crash bars. i wouldn't worry about it
  5. i had the exact same issue and also put in a reese 5-4 two days ago works great
  6. you should pick up a marine cover http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78063 ive been in some crazy rain and its holing out quite well http://www.streetsoundvision.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=525 thants the one i use
  7. So ive taken the water pump off and it seems fine beyond a few extra mills of slop from the sheer pin. No excessive wear or blockages anywhere. I know the fan temp switch is shot what role does it play in displaying temp on the gauge? Could that bypass be screwing with the reading? When I place a multimeter on the power to the temp gauge I get 5.9 volts between the lead and the splitter it screws into and when I touch it directly to the splitter the temp needle pegs to the top of the scale. What are the benchmarks that sensor should be reading at? How can I test the temp gauge and sensors to see if its just electrical messing with me cause im getting mad and this is getting expencive
  8. i'm not certain but it does appear the bypass is on, so i will turn it around tonight and see if that helps. edit: just got back after turning off the by pass and that DID NOT WORK at all made things substantially worse even with the fan on at all times the bike was about to over heat after barely 10 minutes of riding
  9. The 86 appears to have a metal impeller and a plastic drive gear. And the drail valve is turned so that the little ball is in the top hole
  10. its 17C and the engine and cooling system is clean. i havent had 1/4 scale while riding in over a month
  11. so a week or so ago my cooling system took a ****, thrmo switch went and even on the high way it was barely cooling. so i wired my fan to a spare switch on my handle bars till i can get a new one, but i replaced the thermostat and flushed the coolant today the bike cools great while driving again. was able to just cruise around with the fan off barely even reached over half the temp gauge, got back and let it idle for a while with the fan on and it held fine at half. then i turned of the fan and let the temp climb to about 3/4 and turned the fan back on. it then held at 3/4 without dropping any. what would cause for such weak cooling. could my water pump be suspect? and how would i test it without taking everything apart
  12. the fuel pump was bad for sure and the TCI was suspect, replaced both and worked fine after that. and with your other fuel pump tread leads me to believe your pumps diaphragms are shot.
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLeljihD-08 does it sound like this? i had this when my fuel pump fried and my computer was on the fritz
  14. well that is the set up in my bike and works amazing, just because is says 300w dosent means its always drawing it, the amp will draw what it needs and even though it is much less than what a dual speaker system requires it is as small as you can get as a waterproof set up though on the power end you do need to run a thicker gauge wire to the accessory panel for the deck cause the factory wiring will not take it
  15. these speakers http://www.kicker.com/PS_Coaxials with this amp http://www.clarion.com/ca/en/products-personal/speaker/XC1410/index.html this is what i run and it'll drown out anything
  16. so i added some fresh under glow and passing lights passing lights from Robert tibert and the under glow from Canadian cruiser customizing the passing lights are 1240 lumens at 16w per and there is 2.2 meters of water flow leds underneath passing lights on and off http://imgur.com/a/t1pDN Under glow http://imgur.com/a/Tp8pK action shot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqurNQvBugE
  17. hey we may lose a screw or two on the way but at least we get where we are going within this century though really its a matter of get handy with a scrub brush and keep up with the maintenance and don't skimp on the parts! buy the good stuff
  18. friggin hell, harsh start to a season. eyes open and always be ready on that brake lever guys. we arent going to be mourning for any VR guys this season
  19. so i get to do my first little iron butt ride of the year, and i get to do it with the bike just 24 hours out of long storage. going to fly to moncton tomorrow and pull the old gal out of the warehouse, spend a day or two doing tunes ups and touch ups then hammering down 1500KM back to Borden:fingers-crossed-emo heres to hoping she runs like i remember
  20. at a 1400 buy back and 500 over blue i would go and find another rig. thats alot of lost riding time this summer to patch it up. the money will have you back and going in no time
  21. So for me the first thing I would do is turn on the bike and open and close each float drain to ensure that all 4 carbs have fuel. Next check all 4 plugs for good fire Then if still not seeing anything take the covers of the tops of the carbs and check the slides and the slide diaphragms for holes If still no luck and everything else is good I would say you got a plugged idle jet
  22. It is certainly that time of year again. Be extra vigilant guys I dont want to hear about one of you guys being next
  23. That could certainly be a possibility, one of the big symptoms of out of sync carbs is that the idle will rise on its own. If I were you before any digging begins check the sync
  24. i haven't had that particular issue but the coils are highly suspect. there is a huge em feild around those things. so strong that if my amp got within 5-6 inches of it it would shut down, and i had to use insulated wires to get the sound out of the audio. so if i were you i would check to make sure there are no wires touching the black side covers inside the fairing
  25. sweet im going to go get my bike to bring to Borden in two weeks so in definitely in for the meet and eat
