  1. yeah i figured as much, its a shame cause this engine still runs like a dream.
  2. so i have found my bike likes to drink coolant, but isn't giving me the usual symptoms. no white clouds behind the bike, the spark plugs are not abnormally clean, no milk in the oil, and of course no puddles under the bike. though after i fill the coolant and run the bike my rad is bubbling and what i can assume is a bit of soot occasionally floating in it. with the sad state the cooling system was in, with the entire thermostat bypass clogged and filled with pure water. this engine has either overheated or frozen or both and screwed my head gaskets bad, or worse cracked a cylinder wall. if i open it up and do find a cylinder cracked can these engines be resleeved or is the block just dead?
  3. she was a bit to heavy to try and ramp back out so i just lifted it out haha
  4. well now that the bike is done i figure i'll show ya what it was and what it is now this was day one after lifting it off my truck and now today as it is finished and the custom dash i made for it i hope you guys like it i cant wait to start putting down the miles. as for the list of work: flush of all fluids new front tire new pads all the way around replaced collector and mufflers replaced all rotors replaced saddle bags and trunk lower replaced seat replaced all crash bars led head light replaced dashboard replaced entire cooling system new spark plugs new carb boots cut down wind sheild replaced front blinker housing soldered air ride module made custom dashboard installed upgraded radio removed cb radio new head bearings and wheel bearings replaced throttle cables replaced cruise control pump replaced left handle bar controls changed all screws with allen socket screws

  6. this is a week or so old the bike is a bit modded and cleaned up now, will post another pic of it done and polished

  8. so i have an ignitech ignition i was running in my 86 but i now have a 91 and want to use it but not certain if it will just hook up without modding the harness for the single versus dual pick up
  9. well after being without a bike last season i have picked up a 91 royale. good to be back!
  10. so im in the process of restoring my 86 venture and am doing a full paint job on it. i want to get all the old chrome and aluminum parts to match colours but i dont know if the powder coat will really hold up well in areas like the saddle bag latches where it will be constant contact and movement. anyone got ideas on what would work good there?
  11. i think Yamaha has forgotten what a "Touring" bike is supposed to do, and really a twin with push rods? are we going to be able to see where the ground the Harley logos off the sides?

  13. im running a pirelli scorpion in the front and a TW 40 in the rear. TW40 and the TW202 are the only knobbies for our first gens rear tire also do your frame a favor and give everything a healthy coat of ACF 50
  14. if used right i cant wait till they are out, if they were out sooner i wouldn't have a screw in my wrist
  15. you sure its not coming from the filter? mine has the same drip and is coming from just behind the filter cover
  16. i would not risk it, the HO stators already have a reputation of early failure. plus those wires will as flyinfool said will tend to heat up quickly and burn up. the current does flow through the wires the force that goes around the wires is the electromagnetic force from the magnet around the stator.
  17. have you topped up since to make sure that the levels are reading right and that the gas is really used. and when i first put mine back on the road i had an issue with bad float needles, would be fine when it was off but once i started riding the pumps would overflow the carbs and would dump out behind me through the over flow tubes. no real indication other than a strong odor while riding, and the bike would become very sluggish
  18. how can i test for a failing pick up? i cleaned up a few bad fuses and connections and is running better but still intermittent. i can have hours between hick ups and is not really showing symptoms past those points.
  19. just momentary, just cuts out for a sec then hits me in the butt and takes off again
  20. ok tci is an upgrade form dingy carbs were synced 2 weeks ago runs super smooth between hickups stator connector has been removed and soldered will check pickup and kill switch tonight
  21. so first off the symptoms, -when the bike is at idle voltage reads at 12v with no accessories on -battery voltage after being off for several hours is 12.75V -if i leave the bike idle for a while it becomes very choppy when i go to leave and the RPM's will occasionally just drop down to 0 and jump back up while riding. -voltage on the gauge reads 14 v when driving im almost thinking the kill switch is goofing off or the stator is letting go
  22. im looking for a spare engine to put in while rebuild the original, figured i check here first to see if any one is selling a serviceable one
