  4. thanks for this info..have the hf small trailer kit and a clamshell and i want to make this as narrow as possible..the tagalong looks narrower than the regular hf trailer..thinking about inset the wheels a bit to make trailer as wide as the bags..anybody cut one of those clamshells and reglued or fiberglassed the tub?.. thanks to all who replied
  5. think you got ripped off by your exchange...1usd=121.97cnd....1cnd=81c usd plus exchange...when we go to states use 1 credit card for all gas accomodation large restaurant bills...carry cash for small stuff..
  6. thanks saw that on harbor frieght website...im in canada we dont have HF yet..need the actual frame size not the overall size ..thanks
  7. Looking for frame dimensions for one of these.also size of box..length of tongue..thank you
  8. you need to remove the swingarm...i pounded out half of ujoint thinking i could just remove ujoint assembly nut then do other side....it would have been easier to remove middle gear assembly and do ujoint on the bench with the vise ...3 bolts middle gear comes out..the middle gear nut is staked to bolt needs a lot of torque (air gun) to get off .better on bench
  9. were going group of 6 or 7...will have CMCVests on..look for 'mr haney'....
  10. Update...changed rear tire...balanced...new rear wheel bearings...repacked swingarm bearings...replaced ujoint bearings...greased all splines..lubed all pivotpoints in suspension...noise gone...it will remain a mystery what was problem.....going to test this sat going to paris vintage bike show www.cvmg.ca/ParisRally
  11. pins greased last time wheel off....is it possible something loose at clutch side transmitting noise..gearbox cover off...bearing is tight no sign of metal filings.no end play in that shaft..think i will get new bearings for middle gear and new ujoint caps just to rest my mind...with no wheel on and no swingarm installed its just looking for broken\ loose pieces..thanks for input
  12. update still puzzled...pulled middle gear assembly out of cases ..ujoint needle bearings all there and seem tight...middle gear assembly doesnt have any play in bearings and no wear marks on gear teeth on both pinions..next step is to pull gear box cover off to see if there is play in the remaining bearing..then im stumped ...
  13. still working at it..pulled swingarm to look at u joint..ujoint is tight..repacked swingarm bearings while its apart..Thanks Carl for that advice will try it once its back together..couple other things to check
  14. ook delving a little deeoer..pulled rear wheel and driveshaft..nothing seems worn..how loose should u joint be ?seems tobe floppy as compared to a car..cant see any needle bearing pieces
  15. noise seems to come while driving on road..1st gear weaving from side to side about 5-10 mph sounds like a rumbleing with a jerky feel...tried in 2 nd but couldnt feel it...going to pull drive shaft and check...what are symptoms of middle gear failing? is it output bearing or ujoints?thankz for input
  16. never had it running with whel in air so thats the ???.doesnt make noise not in gear...ujooints seem to be tight by looking under rubber seal..noise comes from middle gear case..
  17. if not in right forum please move..sorry...2008 rsv 32000miles owned since new..while up on lift doing pre trip inspection while rear end is up off ground in gear and running there is a noise that sounds like a u joint noise ..louder in 1st gear and still there while in 3rd and accelerateing...is this a normal noise because there is no weight on rear wheel? I dont think so...how hard is it to replace u joint if its the culprit?any other possible causes...rear splines were last lubed about 10000 mi ago.planned trip to adirondaks next week..guess thats out if this is a big job
  18. i use hd planner but theres a glitch....you set up route using each stop as a destination then go back and convert them to waypoints...if set all as destinations you end up with short segments....if you start as waypoints then sometimes the route is not as you wanted...tried tyre...didntblike..base camp ..no ..
  19. the uhaul trail is not really a chock like a pingle style..its just a bump out in the frnt frame...dont put a cover on the bike as it will strip paint off real quick..lock bags and trunk..recheck straps after first good bump..your good to go
  20. i agree with all points to tie down ..except for using handlebar straps..i deliver bikes for yamaha dealer use bar straps only when absolutely neccessary..our bike with its weight can/will bend bars if too much force on handlebar straps is used..get ratchet straps with the soft tie down loops and snake it through lower triple trees around fork....i agree with other tie down points..not needed to remove tank..keep bike on side stand if you choose..no need to fully compress forks you need some give for bumps...hope this helps
  21. your welcome..looking forward to meeting you..
