  1. WOW..this has turned into a Royal Pain in the exhaust. Took the RK's and the original set that was on my 89 to a Midas shop. They couldn't do it. Said they did not have anything small enough to make th epipes and bends. Nothing under 2-inches. They recommended a custom shop down the road. There was a Harley sitting out front. Popped the trunk explained that I only needed a connecting pipe with a 16-degree bend in it to measure the same length as the originals from end to end. He hemmed and hawed and wanted the whole bike saying that he couldn't guarantee that he could make it perfect without the whole bike. . I again explained that I just needed the connecting pipes and I was making a mount so I "wiggle" room. He made a comment about putting Harley pipes on a 'Jap" bike and decided he did not want to mess with it. Drove further down the street to a VW repair shop thinking they must use smaller pipes. He didn't have a clue and did not want to get involved. Guess I will keep looking. I need to measure the inside diameter that goes into the RK and the outside diameter of the end that attaches to existing and just see what I can come up with. I know with the right amount of $$$$ anything is possible but I was hoping that it would be easier.
  2. I am out of town until next week. I have 2 84 parts bikes that most likely have all the parts you are looking for. Touch base with me at the beginning of the week if you do not get any other offers. I will see what i can find.
  3. I have a friend that restores expensive old sports cars. He is adamant that Stabil will cause problems if left in a tank for storage. He didn't have much to say about Seafoam since he doesn't use any preservative any more. He will just drain all gas until the vehicle needs fresh gas. SeaFoam has helped me on my 89. When I first bought mine and it had been sitting, I disconnected the fuel line to the pump ( plugging the tank line), attached a longer piece of hose to the pump and wired it up by the seat. I attached a small funnel into he hose end. Using the drain screws on each carb, I emptied the bowls of the carbs and then filled the hose with a 50/50 mixture off SeaFoam and gas. By cycling the fuel pump I was able to fill the bowls with the mixture. Let the bowls sit several days. Then I drained the bowls to check the seaFoam mixture for color or contaminants. I then filled them again while running the bike and filling the funnel gas line. If I recall correctly, it blew a lot of white smoke out the tail pipes, so have your garage door opened. Another thing you can do is drain all the bowls and then back flush the bowls using a can of Techron carb cleaner, squirting it up through the drain tubes and ten close the drain screw. Let that sit for a day or so and then drain. When squirting the cleaner, make sure that you put a rag over the connection off the little red straw and the bowl drain hose. It will squirt back and usually right into your eyes.
  4. I would also check the diaphragms and make sure that they are in good condition and also that when they were installed it was seated correctly. I had an issue with mine when I thought i was seating them correctly but at the last millisecond when I couldn't see, they would bind just a little and create a leak. I used a small screw driver to hold them in place until the cap was flat and tight. Just a thought. Actually another thought is that there is an other Diaphragm in the front part of the carbs that is rarely talked about. It is a long square one. When I was troubleshooting a serious carburetion problem on my 87, and I finally for the carburetors apart, I found that the previous owner had use some type of cleaning solution that destroyed those square diaphragms and my bike with not run above all fast idle and always seem to be choking out or running out of gas because those diaphragms fried.
  5. Hey , you are just down the street from me. I am visiting my son in Martinsburg until Sunday.
  6. Thanks Kevin, that is pretty much what I needed. I didn't want to have to take the bike to the muffler shop to get everything to fit. It looks like just getting two pipes bent and possibly flared is all I need. The brackets I can create.
  7. I live in Southern Arizona ( Tucson) and not to far off the I-10. It could park at my house or better yet, my father's house is good too. He is on the west side of town by I-10. One of our members from Texas ( I think it was BikerJohn) parked some items at my Dad's house in the past while on a trip. Either place is fine and your vehicles would be safe.
  8. I posted this in the Watering Hole and had 65 views with zero responses. Not even 1 sarcastic response from a 2nd Genner. So my fellow 1st Genners... My brother in law just gave me a set of Road Kings that he took off right after buying his bike. They have been in his garage in the box that his upgrades came in. I have read a few threads on the Road Kings being mounted on a 1st Gen, but couldn't find a thread about the specifics needed to do it. For those who have mounted the Road Kings, what should I be prepared for ? Any information on the modified mounts I recall reading about ? I will be home with them in about a week so I am going to try to put them on before I go TDY to the frozen East again. What should I prepare for ?
  9. So I have read some threads about putting road kings on a 1st Gen/MKII. Does anybody have the exact list of what it takes to mount a set on my 89 ? My brother in law just gave me an almost new set that he took off his when he bought his bike years ago and has kept them in a box in his garage. I am wondering what exactly it takes to mount these.
  10. Now that would have made a heck of a video..... We want the real story...what concessions were made to the wifey ? New convertible ? Diamonds ?? New wardrobe from Nieman Marcus ??? C'mon inquiring minds want to know what you had to give up so that there was no pictures/video and your head is still attached...
  11. Good Luck. Reward yourself. Go buy a 1st Gen so you can have some real fun riding, you earned and deserve it.
  12. Last Saturday I rode Road Guard with Full Throttle Ministries who has supplied the road Guard for 6 years for the Kelli's Ride Cancer fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Had a blast. One of the police escorts was the Marana Police Department's Victory "stealth" bike. The flat black, fully loaded Victory. Front and rear radar. Very few times you can ride fast and break a few traffic laws with a cop around like we did as Road Guard . My speedo needle was intimate with 95 several times going from back of the pack to the front to block an intersection. Only had one intersection we couldn't block since like the commercial says: "You can't stop a train"
  13. Our church has a Motorcycle Outreach Ministry, Full Throttle Ministries, that holds an annual Blessing of the Bikers event. Our 10th annual event went off Sunday night without a hitch. Several hundred bikes, trikes and even a couple of drag bikes were on hand for the event. The day started off with our Pastor riding his Harley into the church. Rode over with my friend and his wife who were on his 1985 1st Gen.
  14. Boy did this thread get hijacked or what ? Looks like the craziness scared the trial member away.....

  17. Dave, I will be back from DC/VA on Oct 6. Looking forward to riding after 2 months of hotel room. The weekend of 10th/11th there are several riding events including being Road Guards for a fund raising ride and on Sunday is the Blessing of the Bikes at my Church. This is a really cool family event if you are interested. A couple of us will be riding to it together. :biker:
  18. Thanks Dan. That was one of my first checks. We checked every line, the dryer canister, the solenoids, and finally found that it was sucking air already into the pump, but zero coming out. So, the focus is now between the intake and the outlet. I had to return to DC for work but hopefully my son-in--law will figure it out when he tears it apart. If not, I will bring one from my parts bikes when I return on 10/17/15.
  19. What is the purpose of the RSU and why by-pass it ?
  20. I'm kinda confused too. But until I can see what everything looks like apart, maybe it will make sense.
  21. 1st Gen + 2nd Gen = 3rd Gen diesel ? CLASS of a 1st Gen suspension and speed of a 2nd Gen..... ( and sounds like a Harley)
  22. Well, we are going to tear into it and see if the valve is good or if the tissue fix will work. I am perplexed how tissue can fix something like that, but it will be interesting. Thanks for the information. Will post an update when we figure it out. Worse case scenario is when I finish my DC TDY and finally get home, I send him one off of my parts bikes.
  23. OK... so we took the same parts all apart several times. Cleaned and checked everything. Took the dryer canister apart. Cleaned and made sure everything "blew" through. Finally decided to focus on the compressor. It will suck air in, nothing out. ??? that was confusing, so we tried it again.. sucked air in, no discharge. Got a lighter and lit a flame in front of the discharge outlet, didn't flicker one little bit. Nothing ..nada..zero..zip... How can it suck it in and not discharge any pressure at all ????
