If I'm correct hydrolock would be where there is excessive fluid on top of the pistons specifically the cylinder with the valves closed.

Pull all four plugs and put it in gear and try rocking it. If it will roll in neutral I would think that would rule out any drive train issues.

One thing I forgot and not sure which years but check the starter bolts some had issues the one I had you could see by looking at the starter that the bolts where twisted never failed to start but sometimes hot the starter seemed to drag. The bolts if I remember correctly ran the full length of the starter on the outside maybe 1/4'' .

I have had good luck with the two part puddy that you mix together till it turns grey especially the one for metal. However I did find some for plastic and used it to modify my passenger cup holder and it worked great. I'm pretty sure it was a J B Weld product but you can shape it and put it exactly where you want it. If you have the broken stud out of the seat pan this should work fine for installing another bolt as a stud. PS while your picking up the puddy pick up a couple of nylon wing nuts to attach the seat with and you won't be breaking the studs.

I think the vstar 1100 is a good first bike. I enjoyed mine but realized it was to small for 2 up riding any long distance especially with the stock seat. But we are a bit larger couple. A good used one should be a easy find but I would try for a silverado model a few more stock options and probably a easier re sale when he wants to move up.

Not sure about the 98 models but that is what I just installed on my RSV last week. The Mr. Gasket 42s I had to do some rearranging under the side cover to get everything to fit. I also purchased two brass close nipples and two brass 90's and used the supplied filter. It will require tools to change the filter but it is easy to get to now. I also picked up a spare filter to carry on the bike. Sorry didn't take any pics I was kinda in a hurry to get somewhere.

I hope you consulted Eck before placing it there if not you'll probably have to move it.

Thanks for the info on the tach. Another question about the tach ? When using this tach to adjust the pilot jets is it necessary to move the pick up wire to the cylinder being adjusted or will any one of the four work?

I have one of those so how do you turn it off ?

1202 should be manufactured the 12th week of 2002 I have a used set I would rather see you riding on from a 2nd gen if they will fit.

Thanks again James for putting this on. We got home today about 4:30 For the record by Yahoo maps if we had ridden straight there it would have been 328 miles one way but us folks from Arkansas are not very good at riding in straight lines When we were at Pop's place a had 545 on the clock from the time I had left the house and when I put the kickstand down back at the house it was 908 miles round trip. But it was worth every mile for the good time we had you couldn't have picked a prettier spring weekend. I truly was embarrassed that we won so many of the prizes as that was not something we were expecting. All in all a great M&E and good turn out. Will catch the Round Barn next time.
