  1. So I went ahead and took it apart. The sound is coming from one of the gears on the transmission shaft. I figure it's just normal clearance but never having this apart before I wanted to make sure it wasn't something else.
  2. After 70k miles my clutch slipped a few times when in higher gears. I pulled the clutch apart this evening to do the Barnett upgrade. Friction discs are all at .118 thickness. When I spin the clutch boss (inner drum) it sounds like something is loose behind it. It doesn't sound or feel like a bad bearing. If I move/spin the boss back and forth it sounds like something has rotational free play. My question is what's behind the clutch boss? Is that free play normal? Should I try to remove the clutch boss to investigate? I don't have a clutch holder tool and don't mind buying one if I need to get in there. I'm just not sure where I could pick one up tomorrow and I wanted to have this back together for a ride on Sunday. Thanks in advance.
  3. Funny you should post this now. As I was riding home from work yesterday I was wondering if I could convert my 06 to mid controls.
  4. Leo, Just curious what you had to do to adjust the beam sideways. My 06 has an adjustment screw with a phillips head that you access behind the fairing to the right of the steering neck. (Opposite of the vertical adjuster).
  5. Hope this works. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?106638-Gen-2-coil-frustration. Sorry, I'm at a conference and only have minute to reply.
  6. I had posted in the past a way to replace the wire and cap. I had done it on my 79 XS1100 and cut one of the coils off of my 05 Venture to show that it could work. I'm away for the weekend but I'll try to find my original post.
  7. Mine is due to arrive tomorrow. Just don't know when I'll have time to install it.
  8. Hey Leo, I ordered a pair of H4s on Saturday and they just now emailed and said they don't actually have them and want to refund my money. How about you?
  9. It took me to that other place too. I just had to unsubscribe and try it again. Don't know why it did that.
  10. Just wondering if anyone here will be at the Skyview Ranch Men's Retreat at the end of this month? Located in Millersburg Ohio.
  11. OK Gary. You just went too far. Now I'm starting to covet that led. :-)
  12. Gary, That bulb that I had in was an air cooled and I was even able to change it without removing the fairing. But like I said the beam pattern just didn't work for me. I appreciate you taking the time to put those pictures up. That's what I'm looking for. Might even pay the higher price since I'd be getting two of them. I can wait a little while to decide.
  13. I've been following this thread with interest. I tried this bulb https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WVJR0D8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and found it to be much brighter than any other upgrades I've tried. The problem was that it did not have a good cut off line. I made sure to readjust it when I installed it but couldn't find a good compromise that didn't annoy my buddies when I was behind them. Since Gary said the one he used has the proper cut off I'm going to order as soon as I find them for a decent price. I hate to admit how many different bulbs I've tried.
  14. Sorry if this has already been posted but I looked and didn't see it. Looking for a good way to carry a spare headlight bulb and found this at Home Depot. Bulb just fits the ID. Add a little packing foam and you're good to go. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Clear-Can-2-in-x-4-in-Storage-Container-00382/100338091
  15. I hope someone will chime in if I'm ring about that. I even looked back through many posts and didn't notice that discussed. BTW, I love your tag line. I've always suffered from that same thing. I just can't seem to leave it alone. Is there a name for that condition?
  16. I just (yesterday) installed R6 Blue calipers and 14mm m/c from a Road Star. Not the drastic change I expected but I'my kind of glad about that. I installed with the pads that came with the used calipers because they are almost new. I only put about 30 city miles on so far but I'm glad I made the investment. Should have done it years ago. I had already upgraded to ss lines and didn't realize I needed new lines without an angled banjo fitting at the caliper and the direction of the banjos at 90 degrees from each other. I was able to make my lines work for now but am looking to order new ones. Just my take on it.
  17. I thought this was an interesting read about tires and wanted to share. If this is old info or not the right way to share it feel free to remove or modify. Tires_101.pdf
  18. So, after reading this, I was reminded how little we pay for all the work that it takes to run this site. I just made an additional donation to say thank you!
  19. Thanks eagleeye. Have a safe trip. What pressure did you run with the Nexen?
  20. Would anyone be willing to check their bfg 155/80-15 and tell me how many ply sidewall wall it has? I see they're back in stock online but having trouble getting this information. I've been running a Nexen for a couple thousand miles and I think I'd like to try something with a stiffer sidewall.
