  1. I can be running 70 on the spedo and in reality only 55 give ot take a few. I did notice the needle jumping while I was testing the starter solenoid by crossing it. Reason I noticed was I was looking at the idiot lights to see if they were comming on or not. Thanks for the replies.
  2. I have a 1996 and since I had the trouble with the battery, the speedo reads 10-15 mph faster that actual. I heard somewhere there is a "healer" out there for this problem. Can anyone give me some info? Thanks.
  3. IT was the battery. I put the volt meter on it and it read 12.73. BUT, it would barely make the neutral light come on. Would not crank it at all. I hooked up the battery charger and all lights would come on but the solenoid still "clicked" and no starter engagement. So, I said to hell with it and went to advance and got a battery. After an hour charge, IT FIRED RIGHT UP. So, I guess the battery had a dead cell. Thanks for all the help.
  4. If the starter has to come off, I just imagine I will have it rebuilt since it will be such a pain to get to anyway.
  5. I hope it is a battery also. From what I could gather and hear, these starters RARELY go out. I will test this afternoon. Any more hints??????????????? Thanks.
  6. Came home the other day and cut off bike. Wen to try and tart back up and nothing. All lights, radio and everything went out. Pushed it in. Cut switch back on and finally heard a constant ticking from the Starter relay beside the fuel filter. Replaced it with used one and now the starter solenoid is clicking constantly when I hit the start switch-no starter. Crossed the pos/neg on the solenoid and it sounds like bendix is coming out but no engagement. Has the starter gone out or is it something else?
  7. I have never had my light come on and have ran out totally once (did not have pet cock turned right). I have a 1996.
  8. Problem is when you do find the ones that beesel screws off they cost $150. Rivco makes a set I saw last week at Thunder Beach. Too high for my blood right now.
  9. I did this on my wife's 650 VStar and the stator was not stout enough to keep up the battery. I have a fairing on mine also. Wonder if the stator will keep the battery charged?
  10. Yes I have and that is where I purchased the one I have that will not fit.
  11. Not wanting to hijack post , but is there a difference in the mounts for ones that have touring windshield mounts. I purchased one off Ebay and it would not work.
