Had a 650 Yamaha V-star with mustang seat(still have) that i rode to Key West Fl. and to Oregon state from Sandyville, WV. So am very aware of the differences in ride between the two. The RSV is heavier and just doesn't get blown around by the wind. There is no wind buffeting because of the huge fairing and windshield. The seat is so comfy one could fall asleep in it. the gearing is just right for interstates, hence it's the perfect touring bike for +500 mile days. (Wind broke tabs on my windshield in Cody WY.) The 650 was so light the winds in Wyoming just about blew me off of the road. The helmet buffeting was so bad that by the end of the 500 mi. day my head was buzzing. Seat was good but by the time we got to Oregon had to buy an AirHawk. As I plan on trailering the bike to destination won't have to ride 500 mi. days. 300 mi. tops and most bikes are comfortable below 300 miles. A large toy hauler would be great but not in my budget unless of course I hit the lottery...LOL

"All Silver needs is a light housing but I promised I wouldn't do it if I couldn't pick it up without pain. " What the heck made you make a promise like that?... I had a AC separation years ago and ask the specialist when I could ski again... He said "today, if you want, the damage is already done, but if you fall it's gonna hurt like hell..." I went skiing the next day... About a year later I had them cut a couple a couple inches off due to impingement problems. It's all good... Get your tent ready and ride up to Snowden in a couple of weeks... you'll feel better... heck take brown sugar till Silver is fixed/TRIKED...

Actually I was serious. I love riding in the dirt and back roads and still enjoy riding the streets at 55 mph. The interstates do nothing for me and it's getting downright uncomfortable doing +1000 mile trips in +90 deg. heat. If I made a cantilever for the bunkhouse I could make a bracket to hold the KTM on the tongue. That way it wouldn't have +300 lbs tongue weight. The 800 lbs. could easily be pulled by my 36-40 MPG Toyota Corolla S (with AC). At the destination its rare for me to ride more than 200 miles a day so comfort isn't a factor. An enduro would open up a lot of places a 2nd gen RSV can't go.

Happy hunting and be safe, when you get back I'll buy you a beer!

Looking at a 2015 KTM 690 R At 306 lbs. and 70 HP. ABS brakes, fuel injected... I'd have the best of both worlds. Could trailer bike to destination and ride street or dirt at will...

Mike & friends, Alternative would be to join us up at Snowden lake Ohio September 24-27. Weather would be better as it's 3 weeks earlier and the roads are Fantastic!

Baker air wings will put air from your shins to your chin. Pricey, but in my opinion the best accessory I have bought. http://www.bakerbuilt.com/bbairwings/Yamaha.html Never had a problem with my feet getting hot. I use my Kuryakyn highway pegs and wear ankle length steel toe brown leather boots. What type of shoes are you wearing? The reason I ask is we've got some members that wear flip flops... Not going to mention any names...

Things that appear to good to be true, normally are... sell all those old saabs off and get silver Hannigan-ized....

Cool! we're getting the gang back together again! -
A Trike is fine, but "air cooled or water cooled?" It's a big difference my friend... and a lot of money if you choose wrong...
-
If I were you, I would wait till Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb to start shopping for trikes. I would probably go with a used Honda Goldwing or RSV Hannigan trike with reverse, extra fuel tank and steering assist. You should be able to get a nice one in the $15,000 range (winter time). I think Leo had his made into a trike. Would even be cheaper yet to take the 99 to Hannigan and say "make it so!" Just tell em you need it by last week of September for our campout...LOL

105 and 107 aren't very big, but would be perfect for an RV. I went ahead and put money down on 108 arriving 24th leaving 28th was $120 . It's the largest of the three. 110 and 108 would have been perfect but 110 is rented out Friday night 25th. -

Dave, Spoke with Connie about 4pm. Office was closed but she answered some questions. Said you blocked off 105,107 and 108. She also said we need to go ahead and pay as the park is filling up quickly. She said you wanted 105. I will pay for 107 tomorrow morning arriving the 24th leaving 27th. Jim, if you want to split the cost of a site, I could get site 107 for the 24th thru the 28th. The corner lots are already reserved for the steam show. Reservations are non refundable... I'm hoping these sites have electricity... -

Just a suggestion, but wouldn't it be a better to suggest aforementioned rides as you become aware of them, for "all" to attend, as soon as you know of them? Kind of puts a damper on those that wish to host rides. -
I went to Colorado last year... will probably take a trip out there again next year...Glad you enjoyed it. I for one never enjoyed group riding. Too much bickering and drama. Anything more than 3 or 4 bikes takes the fun out of it.
