Just pulled the starter out. I would like to install the new one, but what lubricant is that on the old starter so I can apply it to the new starter before install? Please advise.

Error 12 Update: Called the shop and they stated that they may be able to work on my bike, but they are 2 weeks out. It is understandable that they are unable to tell me what is wrong without plugging it in their diagnostic tool and determine the issue. With that said, I am going to handle this myself for the meantime. 2 weeks plus is something I am not willing to wait and beside my bike is already out of the yamaha 5 year factory warranty. I called Partzilla today and was able to obtain OEM part numbers for the Starter and Starter Relay. Starter: 2DF-81890-10-00 & Starter Relay: 2DF-81940-00-00. I have no diagnostic tool on hand, but I plan to replace the relay first and see if it starts and then move on to install the starter. I think I'll have fun working on the bike. About to place my order online.

Wow! I guess don't wear your best boots on Fat Tuesday.

I agree. Unfortunately, that is what I am also leaning for. Starter... If this is the case, it will be my 2nd starter. My first starter has been replaced under warranty per the recall a few years back. The SVTC is already out of warranty, so I might just order a new starter and perhaps a 'starter relay'. I just hate replacing parts, if I am not certain whether the old part of good or bad. I am going to call the shop that worked on my bike previously and see if they will replace the starter 'free of charge' since it has only been a few years ago. I guess it won't hurt to ask. At any rate, I am hoping to get this issue resolved soon.

I can just imagine the amount of cleanup they have to do after Mardi Gras.

I am thinking my 2nd starter went bad again. My original starter has already been replaced under warranty and due to the recall.

I managed to take a pic of the error code. Perhaps I must call the dealership and inquire about Error code 12 and see what they say. Worst case scenario, I have emergency road side assistance and Geico is willing to tow my bike from home to a shop of my choice. 🤞

@Chaharly Yes. The 2018 SVTC. All of my electronics work, but it does have an error code. I also posted my issue in the technical issue forum for further discussion. Did not get the chance to read the service manual today, so I will try again tomorrow if I am some spare time. FWIW, it really sounds like a simple problem but a little annoying that I could not ride the bike.

I have just identified an 'Error' 12 on my SVTC. From what I read online, it is generally stated as an issue on the CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) on Yamaha bikes. Please chime in, if you have had this type of issue of have heard about this error code. I do have access to the service manual and my task is to determine the location of the CPS.

Mardi Gras has always been my dream carnival destination. My cousin who has always invited me to come for Mardi Gras, but work schedule and other commitments just could not jive with the celebration. If I am not mistaken, it is next Tuesday, March 4th and it happens the day before Ash Wednesday (educated myself on this online). May you have a great time and please let us know how you liked it.

Hello. Unfortunately, I was not able to ride today. Here is the story...Sunday, I got the chance to wipe down the bike and check tire pressure but as soon I tried to start the bike...just a click. I removed the battery Monday hoping it could just be a bad battery that I bought 4 months ago, but it tested just fine. It had 380 Cold Cranking Amps left according to the store's battery tester. After all that, reinstalled the battery and just getting a clicking sound. Now I have an Error 12 on my display. After searching for more answers online, I came to my own conclusion it could be the Crankshaft position sensor. If this is the case, I may have to call a tow truck and have the bike towed to the dealer for further investigation. Does anyone have this same problem in the past?

Good morning to all and happy Monday. I was able to wash the truck yesterday after a month and a half of winter weather grime. Today is about 50 degrees, so it just might be a ride day today. Have a great week.
-
TGIF. Good morning to all! Looking forward to wash my truck this weekend.
-
Good evening to all! Our next week's weather forecast is looking much better. Looking forward to ride.
-
No riding for me too until perhaps next month. I am over here near the MD/PA line, but temps and roads conditions are not good for riding...at least in my book... A few more weeks then we should start talking more about bikes.
-
Nice touch for a custom look.

Good evening to all! I just had to plug in my bike on the trickle charger. February is not looking good in terms of weather.
-
That is chilly indeed. Over here in SE Pa, we are going to have some icy mix on Thursday and as we all know and agree...snow is much better than ice. I am not so thrilled, because I have to be in Philly on Thursday.

Good evening to all! Hope you guys enjoy the Year of the Snake.
-
Happy Saturday to all! The weather is looking to be more promising for next week. After all the rain yesterday here in SE Pa., Monday and Tuesday may be 'at least' ride days to and from work. Thank you Mother Winter for giving us a break from this brutal cold air.

It is official. Some of the Drones in NJ are authorized by the FAA and other drones belong to private individuals that enjoy flying drones. Nothing about UFO's and the so called 'enemy'. I rest my case.

Good morning to all. So we are getting a heat wave within the next three days. Today is Truck and Van wash day.
-
Good mid morning to all. Not planning a whole lot to do today, but if we hit 33°F this afternoon, I just might wash the truck and car to wash away salt and grime.
