  1. I forgot to mention that I have had Malwarebytes Premium installed for years. Randy
  2. Due to my computer getting slower, I decided to purchase the CCleaner program. Since then, I have had all kinds of problems. The first thing is every time I logged off, it erased several of my passwords. Since I have had many for a long time, I had to go thru the forgot password and do a new password feature. I ended up having to disable CClearner to get it to quit doing this. Now, I have a new problem related to youtube videos. I can watch the first video listed, but if there are subsequent videos, they may start for a second or two and the sound will continue, but it goes to a different screen. This is on my HP B&O laptop with a terabyte of memory or ram or what ever it is. This is the screen I am getting; Another problem I have been having that started before the CCleaner download is when on Facebook marketplace, I can open up an ad, but now I can not open any of the pictures that go with the ad. Anyone have any suggestions? Randy
  3. Yeah, we are showing our age, but look at what OUR generation was doing. Randy
  4. Actually, it is on the west side of the mountain ridge, but on the east side of the valley. It is in the shade also, so we won't be getting much morning sun, which was going to be a good thing with the hot weather we were originally expecting. Randy
  5. I had a couple weeks to go in tech school at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois. I had just received my orders for my next assignment and it was just 50 miles from where my wife was living with her parents in New Bern, NC. and was at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC. I was real happy about that. On this day, we had a small B&W TV in the dayroom with a bunch of guys staring at a grainy picture of Neil Armstrong taking that giant leap for mankind. I remember that dayroom like I was in it yesterday. It is hard to believe that now we are walking around with a phone in our pocket with more computing capability than what went to the moon. What were you doing 50 years ago that you remember? Randy
  6. Yeah, we are having a bit of warm weather here in NE TN also, but not as hot as much of you. We have camping reservations in the valley below Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina this coming week and right now the prediction for Tuesday is rain with a high of 64 and a low of 49 degrees. Now, this is not up on the mountain. I was planning to take the A/C unit for our Time Out Camper, but now I am taking a heater. Randy
  7. Bob and Becky both are very special folks and have been a great part of this forum. Bob has always gone out of his way to help people, with me included. They are truly in our thoughts and prayers. Randy
  8. Great pictures Lewis with many great memories and I hope you get a good turnout this year. I can understand this being your last Vogal as last year was my last Asheville. This will be about 14 years we have had a southern rally, so it has been a good run. Best and safe wishes to all. Randy
  9. I believe it is 1413. Randy
  10. I suspect the trucking company will declare bankruptcy and everyone will loose. Around here if anyone is involved in a crash with a death, it is automatic that blood tests are drawn. I can not understand how this guy was let go and one report I read stated that he had refused a blood test. I just don't get it, but at least they came back and charged him. Randy
  11. Another trick I found on Windows 10 is if you manually turn the computer off, using the power button, and then turn it back on three times, it will come up in repair mode. When you turn it back on each time, you don't have to wait but for a few seconds to turn it back on again. Randy
  12. The truck drivers name was Volodoymyr Zhukovskyy, 23. He crossed the centerline and when he tried to correct, he whipped the flatbed trailer across in front of the bikers. I have not seen anything released as to whether he was impaired, sleepy or distracted on a phone or something else, but either way he killed seven and wounded three. This is another reason I parked my Venture a few years ago after putting 150,000 wonderful miles on it. Prayers for these veterans and their families. Randy
  13. That curve going up to Grandfather mountain is know as Forrest Gump curve as it was in the movie. Randy
  14. I suspect with the tall gearing on the 2nd gen 5th gear, it would probably go faster in 4th than 5th. I also suspect that a VMax final drive would put the bike in a much better RPM range for more speed in 5th gear, due to being in a much better range for better torque and would have better acceleration through the gears. What RPM is a 2nd gen running in 5th gear at 100mph? Randy
  15. We had a 45 year old guy on a stolen motorcycle, with the wrong tag ,without a helmet, go around a curve too fast and hit an SUV head on. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the SUV. I had a motorcycle stolen when I was about 14. The guy did not get killed on it, but was later shot in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun as he was trying to beat a front door down with a baseball bat. Randy
  16. I have seen Oberlin in the news with one of your colleges getting a nasty spanking from a bakery. Randy
  17. Interesting this popped up as I was on the Dragon today in my Miata. It was an absolutely beautiful clear day and the temps were in the upper 70's most of the day. We took off Thursday just after noon from Johnson City, TN and stayed at a motel in Pigeon Forge as the cost there during the week is about half or less what a comparable room would be in Gatlinburg, or Knoxville. We left out this morning after a crappy breakfast at Shoney's and drove toward Wears Valley and got on the new section of the Foothills Parkway and got off on 129. For a Friday, the Dragon was pretty busy and there were several TN State Troopers around. One was even on a dual sports type bike all lit up pulling some guys over. We did not encounter any crazy bikers, but did some crazy driving car guys. There were so many bikes at the Gap that it was hard to find a place to park a Miata. I looked from one end to the other and did not see either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen Venture. I did see a 1974 Yamaha 250 street bike that looked brand new. The only bike that looked like a 2nd gen Venture was one turning in at the Fontana Dam road. From there, we went thru Bryson City and took the old road to Cherokee and had dinner at Granny's Restaurant, which was packed, but still got us a table within about 5 to 10 minutes. The buffet food was really good and was about $4 less than breakfast at Shoney's. From there we went across the mountain thru Maggie Valley and then up 209 to Hot Springs, NC. All together by the time we got home about 9:30pm, we had put 400 miles on the car and none were interstate and most were curvy mountain roads. Probably easily over 1,500 curves and my arms are tired. As far as the Dragon being patrolled, I heard one guy fussing because he got a ticket for going 4mph over on the 30mph speed limit on the Dragon. If you want to go faster, 209 from Lake Junaluska to Hot Springs is just as curvy and 55mph speed limit and did not see one cop. We had a great couple of days and got in some great mountain driving. Randy
  18. I have an HP B&O laptop with a terabyte of memory that is giving me some problems. Currently, I am occasionally getting a box popup telling me I have a Windows problem and I can not delete the problem unless I do the three manual shutdowns that work on Windows 10. I have Malwarebytes Premium and will do a scan and nothing pops up. I also have a problem with my disc cleanup. After I do a disc cleanup, I still have 854MB in the "Temporary Internet Files" section because there is a lock on those files. On the "System error memory dump files" I still have 866MB, but there is no lock showing on this file. On the "Temporary files" I still have 73.4MB. I have researched the "lock file" problem, but I have not been able to find one that works on my computer that will unlock the file. I have considered taking it back to "factory settings", but I know I will loose all my various passwords and I have a bunch of stuff in my favorites listings that I don't know how to save other than save them individually and transfer them to a thumb drive. I use Windows Edge that came on the computer. I am not very computer savvy, but so far I have been able to work thru most of the problems that pop up. Any help is appreciated. Randy
  19. If I was concerned about initial oiling, I would just fill it up with oil and remove the spark plugs and crank it over some. I don't think you need to, but if it will make you feel a little more warm and fuzzy, it's easy to do. Randy
  20. When it came time for me to think about continuing to handle an 800 pound, top heavy bike, I thought about a trike, and I even have a 1500 Goldwing, but I ended up with a Miata. Well, six of them actually. The first one was for Linda, which I enjoyed so much, I got one for me. Then, when buying a hardtop, I ended up with another one. My son got that one and then I bought a parts car. Then my grandson got one, but my grandson's got totaled when a woman in an SUV pulled thru traffic across on front of him, so he built another one. Fortunately, with his seatbelt and airbag, he was uninjured. Point is, if you want something fun in the sun and wind, take a look at a Miata. I have put about 60,000 miles on mine in four years and pull a Time Out Camper with it. I look forward to driving it every time I get in it. Randy
  21. I think you will really like the 2nd gen trans swap and it will work ok with the flat land around Oklahoma, but I still feel the VMax final drive will really make it even better. Here is you one for $79 +shipping and you already have the 2nd gen driveshaft. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Yamaha-Vmax-1200-Final-Drive-Gear-Differential/292225622812?fits=Model%3AVmax+1200&hash=item440a01231c:g:x8oAAOSwbUtZnu~i:sc:USPSPriority!37615!US!-1 Randy
  22. With putting about 150,000 miles on my 83 and with using several tire brands, the only one I have ever had a problem with was an Avon Venom on the rear. This was not from a tire failure, but bike handling. I was so impressed in how much lighter the bike felt when I went to the Avons until I was riding one up at about 65mph and up. This was due to a tail wag that got worse, the faster I got. I also found that I was not the only 1st gen rider that was experiencing this problem. What ultimately ended up being the best for me was an Avon front tire and a Dunlop Elite 3 on the rear. If you want to know how I resolved my concern with getting the bike on the center stand, let me know. Also, my granddaughter could spin the bike around on smooth concrete by herself. Randy
  23. There were so many that it is hard to pick the best one. Harvey could never keep a straight face. Randy
  24. Also, make sure the pins that are on the bearings are set to rest in the slots made for them. You can see one of the slots just to the left and up some on your picture with the felt tip pin. As far as the score marks on the forks, this is usually from the fork tips being bent some from 2nd gear kicking back against them, and even someone trying to hold it in 2nd gear when they shifted. This is why I felt it was important to get all the transmission parts, including forks and fork shafts and not just replace the gear shafts. Randy
