  4. I took mine off for two reasons I like the airflow with them off and my legs don't sit against them. Last winter I had them on and on cooler days it did seem warmer with them on. Thought it was me but I keep thinking I'm right. Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk

  11. I am confident you can do this work Ty. I was mechanically inclined just cause I like to tinker on things. But before joining this forum never resodered computer boards or took a gas gauge sending unit apart.. Thanks @Freebird for that gas gauge works well!! Never thought about replacing my battery cables but that is thanks @yamagrl for that. I paid someone to rebuild my carbs and clean them. But they just wasn't right. So I bought my own set and the CD everyone recommends... I really thought I knew what I was doing but needed a bit of help. So far I have put 24 into this site and 20 dollars into the carb and engine rebuild CD. So 40 Vic all together which has saved me 1000's. Now I have my exhaust pulled waiting on oil pan gasket and filter. Plus I found I had no problems with my exhaust just pipe fitment and a couple of orings. Really not hard to do IMHO. Specially with the guidance found here. I even tackled going all led to lighten load on the charging system plus added pulsing brake light. All of which with confidence from this sight. Shrevk will be hibernating all winter so why not get in there and attempt on your own. Then you will know what and how and gain confidence as you go. Just my 2 pennies worth. But these bikes are trully a labor of love. Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk

  13. This Is from @skydoc_17 to someone else who has had his bike for over 25 yrs!!! In the beginning, I was my own worst enemy, I punished myself for not taking my time and doing a good job. As I have gotten older, I have "slowed my roll"! Now, I take my time, I take a break when I get tired, or mad, I don't skimp on the quality of parts I use, and I have found that most of the time, I fix things ONCE, without breaking anything else, and without beating myself up, and I end up with the results I was looking for. This method works really well for me, perhaps it will work well for you too. Sorry to get so "windy" in my explanation of these vital maintenance projects, but I want you to feel that you can do these jobs yourself, and if you need help, ALL of the members of this forum are here to help you! Who could ask for more than that! Earl
  14. Happy Birthday Sir!!
  15. The 70% rider is low on the Yamaha... I would say 85% rider and 15% mechanical.. I have heard time and time again I rarely get these bikes for parts as they are too reliable... So far my bike has been 90/10 to 98/2 first number rider second is mechanical with that just being maintenance.... But do what suits ya. Just know when this makes me cringe but I understand... Your mechanic is done you should have very solid bike for years to come. Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk
  16. Oops not meaning to hijack... But compare your prices to what same part Harley costs that's what kept me going... Specially knowing I could leave them at go!! Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk
  17. 1800 is me paying someone there is about 2500 in savings on labor which is counted in there another 800 for parts and 300 in making her mine... Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk
  18. Hmmmm I got 5 in tinker total over last 2 yrs..... Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk
  19. No I was trying to get rear header pipe out... The funky shaped pipe that is attached to the collector. This one https://m.ebay.com/itm/1983-Yamaha-XVZ12-Venture-1200-XVZ-Y271-rear-cylinder-exhaust-header-pipes-/290913074210?_mwBanner=1 Sent from my LG-K371 using Tapatalk
  20. O Crap I failed to mention burnt my hand last week looking for leaks... And didn't find any!! Just found the oil leaking thru a paper with plastic, so I took that out of its prospective place I attached a bolt into threads and sealed it right up and reassembled while I wait on parts.went for ride but starter quit working will not crank the motor and something funny hanging out of oil pan so took that out and jb welded the whole...
  21. Well the header pipes as far as I can tell are fine, I was trying to get them out but gave up because basically it seems you can only take it out one of two ways... take the rear of the bike off or take the engine out. My exhaust was only snug tight, I would have figured I would had to fight with a few bolts but basically they seemed just snug... maybe why I had exhaust leak. The oil leak has been there since the day I bought her, It appears the Oil pan gasket was bad but not for sure, I did replace the oring in the oil level unit. My pipes are all connected with copper... Hoping the Jardines are there in a couple weeks might get those too.... Did see a set of Markland Foot boards that were made for my venture maybe put everything back like it was and put those on instead of my 88 floor boards for passenger.. Anyways the oil leak was the main reason for taken off the exhaust, I pulled into a gas station on way up to see oldest son and lady had her phone getting ready to call fire department. It smokes but not that bad she acted like it was gonna light up.... I went in got me soda told her sorry to scare her she told me there was motorcycle the week before that did light on fire.... and after seeing what happened in Fayetteville I believed it. I thought she was really yanking my chain I have never seen one just go up in flames.... guess they do get Hot!!!
