Hate to say but I like mine with out those ovetr the disc but part of me thinks it looks cool lol anyways maybe im just getting old ok i got a parts stash i got 4 spark plug wires with lime green and white thru out them anyone want everyone say green is money so umm yeh still trying to figure out how the wires got corroded like that in the insulations
  3. it seems like its missing something other then just the seat and not sure about the title thing how one would go get one for bike but i know for a car it isnt as simple as just filing for a title...
  4. Ok so im going thru stuff and guy post this 82 Virago for sale anyways he says it cranks but has no spark he think maybe wiring did there TCI boxes have troubles too...
  5. Puc where did you get them cool disc covers i have seen them here and there in pictures but not anywhere else.... so if i put stickers on my spark plug wires maybe they wouldnt be so corroded

  7. only one problem i had when I bought the bike that was headlight and forks leaking... rode all last year till the starter went out... I paid 1350 for it
  8. Gotta throw my two cents worth if the xs was the prototype 1 and beeing as alot of stuff the 83 has going on would be prototype 2/mk1 so basically it sounds like it took them 3 trys to get it right not knocking my 83 but Damnnnn

Yeh I just recently bought a slide that i was told they dont make i got NOS for $75 bux which had the diaphragm i paid 98 bux for when i had it serviced so i got the slide and diaphrahm the way the sell it with the slide for 1/3 the cost but thats where i came as mad as a hornet the other day.... and cowpuc giving me hell of a deal....
  10. Can I just say i have been thru alot of threads in here but i just have to ask did you all escape the Pennhurst Insane Asylum? Just curious... But this is prolly gonna be one of the better groups I have seen... I have a feeling it will be the best 12 dollars a year I will ever spend... But im confused tho what is the difference between 1st.2nd.and 3rd Gen.... like what are the years of them... well all its been good reading some of these post gets my mind off the 1200 I spent this year to enjoy 3 months of riding... plus something else i discovered today while tearing into my bike.... makes a person hotter then:225: from now on I will do my own work..... end of rant!!!
  11. your right i believe mine was the same i was testing alot of things because of the voltmeters were off on my jimmy and my battery on my bike wasnt holding a charge but i know when i had the idle set at 850 900 according to the tach and was informed it was supposed to be more like a 1000 or so and when i cranked it up there i was getting like 12.8 but i think my tester is a little goofed up... i did get this one from harbor frieght 5 yrs ago.. cause i dont think my tahoo is putting 15.2 volts at idle... i dont know if temp has anything to do with it but it was 102 degrees with heat index of 113 like last night i checked my coils they all came back with 2.8 to 3.2 ohms and this morning it was saying crazy things of like 4.8-4.11 for resistance... brought it inside and first tested a triple a battery and it was telling me it had 3 volts but after about 10 min i checked again and it was giving me the reading of 1.6 on the battery and took it back out to garage and tested the coils again and they tested just over 3ohms for resistance so umm think i may splurge and buy a better one... so who knows of good place to buy one cause want one that is accurate before i test the stator....

I'm Just chasing the Gremlins because when my kids go back to school I want to ride and not have to worry about calling Triple A most of the time when i have tore this bike down it has taken just hours... Right now its taking days and I want to make sure everything is right with it when I put it back together I would have never noticed if i hadnt had the side covers off and wearing shorts and touched my leg on that damn plug... had a square funky blister.. At first thought i kicked up another wasp... those suck at 70 mile an hour dont know how he stung me but he did.. and before anyone ask i found a bell with a cross on this bike and left it there.... I had looked at other bikes last year and kept going back to this one... and when I found that I felt it as a sign.. then seen them at a motorcycle shop and read the meaning of them... which this one has more meaning to me then anything.. but Im thinking after spending 1200 in repairs i went with Walmart battery.... and now i have a shop manual i can actually read well I could have replaced the starter and rebuilt it myself.... but i was just a little spooked by the video i watched on the frond forks cause they needed seals but thanks for your reply i was getting a little worried there... getting ready to pull the mufflers down and pull the oil pan off and replacing that silly gasket thats been leaking cause for what small amount of oil gets on the collector it sure does smoke like crazy when I let it idle a 2000 rpm with choke/enricher on Lol Damn thing almost smokes like my dads dodge that had bad valve seals
  13. Um it better not be and I cant even remember where I bought the Battery but just got it in March cause I toasted the last one by leaving the key on while i was listening to the radio.

Um what happens if those wires are getting hot? specifically the plug was getting hot and the stator was supposedly just replaced last winter before i bought the bike.... as of right now cant start the bike but what can i look for to see if the stator is malfunctioning also it was charging at 14.5 volts when i tested it at the battery while giving it 3000rpm. and i had a hefty 12.8 charge when engine was off but with engine at idle it held a steady 12.3 volts at the battery.. and when i hit the brake light it would bog down below 12volts.

Wow well i will see around the first of the month for sure but how would i pay etc... could definatly use spare parts now to get that other bike for the 500.... might pull the wiring harnesses off that bike... granted this guy still has it... and im thinking my fuel pump is fine.. Because before i got carbs rebuilt it would always pressurize after sitting for an hour or so but now its only in the morning.... but i believe thats a fair deal for all so if the fuel pump does kick it.. I have a spare...

So I found the post and it said bake at 225 for an hour or so.... put the unit back on the bike and now no spark from number 4 but she is coughing but just not spinning over.... and i know this bike will run on 3 cylinders cause it did when i first got it due to all the corrosion on spark plug wires which i would love to just replace.... but oddly enuff tho when i test the plug from one of donb post it said i should be getting 2.7 well before i baked the unit i got a 3.3 or so now its giving me a reading of 4.7 to 4.5 on the coil packs strange but the other plug measure fine i also cleaned the plugs up on the unit....just kind of odd i thought since everything tested within the range now its a little high... I feel as if I have just entered the twilight zone on this one...

  21. um wow I have heard it all now.. I have heard of putting egg whites in a radiator to temporarily plug a hole... but squirt maybe he was hoping she would believe it so she could get on her way home. But I was in autozone one day and a lady came in looking for blinker fluid... was trying to find it in the store they went along with it tho it was pretty funny..... the lady had to be in her early 30s im shocked she had never heard of that one before...

  23. i was concerned because the clicking is weak on the fuel pump..... it used to go to town when i turned the key on... as for the tach yes it had been like i would be runing on the interstate at 3500 rpm and it would shoot up and also some times when i would rev a little bit when starting it and the tach would shoot up past 8s like it would bounce up there then the other day before it just quit like when i went to the store down the street it had been running fine went back out and tried to start and it absoluletly refuse to start everytime i have called the shop here they have told me well sounds like you need new fuel pump and wouldnt tell me where i could get the points for inside it they also told me it woulndt come apart... sorry for bad grammer but splitting headache sucks another thing i noticed before it quit that the pick up coil plug was a little warm and wires were kinda hot.... but im seriously thinking the TCI kicked the bucket... as for fuel pump as long as the bike is running it pumps fuel damn good checked by running it with the line running into gas can... and turned it off and turned the key on it just seemed the initial start up of the fuel pump seemed a little week which i have thought all along points in it and im thinking i seen a forum somewhere about replacing the points in the fuel pump.. which i havent got into that yet i figured as long it is down im gonna work on the little things.. i picked this bike up last year for 1350... and put it in the shop to get the starter rebuilt... and then took carbs off and had them redo them because some reason they told me i couldnt get the parts i needed when i rebuilt it but yet when they worked on it managed to get the exact parts new..... needless to say im doing my own work from now on.... i found another bike on ebay it has everything cpt the TCI and he isnt too sure of the motor cause guy b4 him left it setting out with carbs off and tarp over it and it got water in the engine but he gave me hell of a deal on it just cant afford it at the moment... like i said this is gonna be a winter project which i dont mind...
  24. I also am wanting to find out if there is a way to rebuild the fuel pump or where to get a new aftermarket fuel pump
