  1. The cargo of your trailer should be covered under home owners. That is one advantage have one insurance co for everything. I don't care which policy pays as long as it get paid. The only drawback is there still will be a separate deductible from each policy.
  2. You are right. I have to carry tools and parts, most people I know are on 2nd gens or Harleys, I always stop to help.
  3. OK parts are on order to see how my idea works. Parts should be here in a couple of days and I can start experimenting.
  4. Yup You forget that I have a marshmallow butt, not an iron butt. It takes me 10 hours to cover the 425 to Dons MD. 400 Miles is about my limit, beyond that I start noticing that I am making less than optimal decisions and my reflexes are reduced. With the trailer on I need to stop at least every 100 miles for gas and ice cream.
  5. Very cool! Your son got it right......
  6. I was just wondering how many days travel it would be for people to get to the IR in Guntersville AL? If the better half comes with it would be 3 days each way and if I come alone it would be 2 days each way.
  7. What he did is correct, the small terminal on the solenoid needs a grond to activate the solenoid. The start switch normally supplies this ground. With your positive jumper, go from the battery Positive directly to the stud on the starter to eliminate any bad cables in the system as a possibility.
  8. When the engine quits while going down the road, does the tach instantly drop to zero even while your momentum is still turning the engine over? If it does then you have an electrical problem and not a fuel problem. Fuel issues usually will spit and sputter while dieing like running out of gas. Electrical issues are usually a hard cutoff with no warning.
  9. I am not sure if the RLU is the same on a MKI vs a MKII. Here is the writ up on the HID conversion for an 88. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45603 It is a lengthy write up but it almost took longer to type than it did to actually do.
  10. Google "states visited map" there are a bunch to choose from.
  11. The BMW president that you speak of was designed to be a single shock, not just one side drained. This is a safety issue, fix it right.
  12. A couple more tests you can run. Hook a jumper from the small terminal on the solenoid to battery negative. If it cranks, you have a bad wire or connection to track down. If it still chatters, check all of the connections. Not just the part of the terminal under the screw or nut, but also check the connection of the terminal to the wire. If all of this is to no avail then it is more likely to be a bad solenoid.
  13. It looks a little long. The rule of thumb is; Measure the distance from center of one tire to the center of the other tire. The distance from the center of the axle to the center of the ball should be 1.5 to 2 times the tire centers distance. I stretched mine to the 2 times for better stability. Dang, type to slow again
  14. or porn type sites.........
  15. When I bolted the topper to the trailer I used eye bolts with a nut and fender washer on the inside and a Lock nut and fender washer on the outside bottom of the trailer. This gives me 4 anchor points that are not anchoring to plastic but are solid to the trailer. I just use bungee cords to tie stuff down if I do not have a "full load", but if you ever saw my little tent....... The spare tire is mounted under the trailer on the bottom of the tongue. Flat tires are not that common so it is OK if the spare is not easy to get to. I stand the trailer on end for storage so the spare is right there chest high for easy checking of air pressure before I pull it down to load for a trip. I am looking at the possibility of adding 2 tubes on the bottom of the trailer to hold the folding chairs. I have not yet checked to see if there is room between the floor and the axle, or if they would have to go sideways.
  16. It ends up being the same number of days off for most people. Saturday is the travel day to get there. If the rally started on Saturday, then you would need to travel on Friday off for travel time to get there. Many (maybe even most) people need more than one day to get to the rally. So if you have 4 days of rally and 4 days of travel, it eats a week no matter which day it starts on.
  17. Actually we try to get people to add their bike to their header and/or signature so that everyone knows what you have and you don't have to say anything at all. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58880
  18. Clicking for a few seconds when you first turn the key on is a good thing. I always wait for it to finish clicking before I strt so that I know the float bowels are full. It only clicks while moving fuel. so with the engine off it just clicks for a few seconds to top off the float bowels and then stops since there is no fuel flow. On a 1st gen, most of the tank is below the carbs, so a pump is needed to bring up the fuel. As mentioned the pump is a solenoid pushing a diaphragm back and forth hence the clicking as the solenoid cycles.
  19. Factory stock is only a tail light. The red band around the trunk is just a reflector. The red part just above the bumper is also just a reflector. There are a lot of ways to get more light on the back. I have already filled the trunk reflector with 177 LEDs that are wired to act as running lights, turn signal, and brake light. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41588 Adding lights to the bottom reflector is coming up high on the list. these will be running and brake lights. Dang, I type to slow again.......
  20. I have seen these around the Milwaukee area, but with no badgeing. Might have been prototypes. I was trying to figure out what it was. It looked kind of like a HD, but it had a radiator. Must be a rough job. Boss; "Here are keys to a bike and a company CC, go ride 10,000 miles" employee; "OK Boss" Boss; "Be back in a month or so" employee "OK Boss"
  21. Nope, we have a local member that is already using that scheme.
  22. As a separate test showed, greater total weight was one of several things that can cause an increase in stability. Adding a pillion is still adding weight forward of the rear axle, and as the separate test showed, greater total weight also has a calming effect. It is possible that the total weight gain of a pillion has more of a stabilizing effect than the rearward CG change has a destabilizing effect. It would take more testing to determine that. There are a lot of combinations of variables that were not shown as being tested in that vid. From back in the days when I was driving stock cars, the CG does make a big difference in handling, even just a couple percent change. I'm sticking with my original plan of ending my diet for safety reasons.:essen_018:
  23. They shifted the CG using two different methods and got the same repeatable result for both cases. They even said that the action that caused the CG to move was the only action taken. That sounds like proof to me. Proof of a cause and effect is one thing, understanding the reason and/or physics for that cause and effect is something totally different.
  24. On the left side of the screen under "Users Login", Go to the "User CP" On the left side of the screen under "Settings and Options" go to "Edit Options" Scroll down to "Messaging and Notification" look for "Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default" and make sure the box is checked. Very important, now scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the "Save Changes" button. From now on all PMs should automatically be saved in your "Sent Items" folder.
