Battery question
Flyinfool replied to fixit3546's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
13.2 and 11.5V on the highway are both lower than they should be. I would check out the charging system before spending on a new battery. Even 2 year old parts can go bad. -
forks locked up
Flyinfool replied to schoenyrider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
After rereading your original post. I had "assumed" that you meant that the forks ere locked and would not move up and down. Just on the odd chance if you meant that the forks will not turn, is it possible that you engaged the fork lock, and just need to unlock it with the key? -
Those elbows are well known to leak after being touched by the engine guard. If there is a dent there is most likely also a leak right at the dent. I ground down and smoothed off the corner of the engine guard mount to get a little more clearance between it and the elbow, for next time something bumps the guard.

I know that feeling well. There are a few roads around here that I know of where there are no speed limit signs posted and they are not patrolled and no cross streets for someone to pull out of. This is where I tend to work on trying to relive that feeling at least I can be over 100 as I shift out of third. I am not sure if the bike has enough horse power to red line 4th and definitely not 5th. My jewels are a bit to small to find out if 4th will red line.

+1 more on the I would fix it. It will take time but can be done and if done right will be stronger than a new one. And I thought I over loaded my trunk a lot........

I did notice that the chat room was not working but all of the rest of the page came up as normal on both my desktop and laptop. WHen I first got my smart phone I had an issue where the phone kept checking for email and then downloading the email into the phone, so when I checked from the computer there was no emails, they were all in the bleepin phone. The same for this website. the phone kept checking for new posts so when I went to check for new posts there were never any more than a few minutes old. There are settings in the phone that I had to change to turn off the automatic checking features to get the phone to leave stuff alone so that I could find it with my computers.

A straight battery tender will not recharge a battery. Some (not all) of the tenders do have an included charge function, but as mentioned it is a very slow under 2Amp charge. I would go out and get a small cheap charger (6-10Amp) to get some charge into that battery and then you can finish it off by riding or with the tender. Just do not forget about it on the cheap charger or it will cook. If the battery was good before you ran it down, the run down should not have totally destroyed the battery, just knocked a little off of its future life span.

forks locked up
Flyinfool replied to schoenyrider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Congratulations on picking up a nice bike. We have rules on this site, we all love to see pictures. If there are no pics it didn't happen. Between the bikes suspension and the trailers suspension I am not sure how you could have damaged the forks. How did you have it strapped down on the trailer? If you had it secured in some weird way I suppose it might be possible to have bent a fork tube, but that would take an awful lot of force. -
Its just a tiny sticker but it means alot to me..
Flyinfool replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I will be getting mine next Tuesday. -
Yup If you are going to clear over the sharpie, you have to do 4-5 coats that are super lite so that it dries almost instantly or it will mess up the sig. If you use a paint pen, it will not need clear. Or you can clear over it just like any other paint.

Pilot Jet Adjustment Screw
Flyinfool replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If you are going to drill as Marcarl suggested, get some left hand drill bits. The left hand bits if they catch while drilling will spin the screw out. A standard right hand drill bit, if it catches will ram the needle hard into the seat. -
Pilot Jet Adjustment Screw
Flyinfool replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Find a screwdriver that has the exact right size blade and make sure that it has nice sharp edges on the tip. Regrind it if necessary to be sure it is sharp. Use a lot of pressure to prevent it from slipping and further damaging the slot. Make sure that you are perfectly square and lined up. If this does not work then it will get uglier fast. -

That is always my biggest fear with a passenger, especially a young family member. I am very glad you both are OK. Maybe you need to get everything repainted blaze orange ....... -
Send a PM to SkyDoc. It may take him a couple of days to get back to you but he will. He works some insane hours.

Thats OK, I'm sure one of your buddies will make the supreme sacrifice and help you get rid of that ice cream that you had to buy.

Just in case you need it I just got this $200 off coupon for the HF 12,000lb winch in my email today.

Coolant leaks on these old bikes are quite common. They usually only leak while cold and do not leak while hot. It is due to the rubber o-rings getting hard and shrinking with age. this allows a few drops of coolant to leak out when cold. As soon as it heats up the heat softens the o-ring and it reseals till it is again cold. normally only leaks a couple of drops at a time. You just have to figure out which one is leaking so that you can replace it. Any time you are messing with anything on the cooling system, plan to replace all o-rings that you run into. Even if it is not leaking now, it will soon. AND o-rings are cheap to do "While you are in there"

That "update" that you can not cancel is the malware. If it keeps popping up you may have it on your machine and it keeps trying to get you to install it. Use all of the above suggestions to try to get rid of what ever is causing it.

The meet and greets are not so bad for symptom 2, it is the meet and EATS that will get you. There is also a small quirk in these Ventures that you will probably soon discover. The engine always seem to shut off in front of every Dairy Queen, and many other ice cream stands. But this is a good thing since it give any 2nd gens or Harleys that you are riding with a chance to catch up. This also seem to help alleviate the pain of symptom #2.

I knew that Puc was a bad influence. My only saving grace is that I might already be too corrupt to be able to be corrupted. I just like to frustrate ole Puc with the little weather machine that I brought with me from the planet Zoore when I moved to this little blue planet. Although last winter I think I might have gone to far and it might have been ole Puc that was lobbing shi....stuff over the lake in my direction..... For a more permanent signature that will not wear off like a sharpie have you ever looked at paint pens, it actually writes with paint. The only issue is it does not dry instantly like an ink marker. http://www.sharpie.com/enus/pages/oil-based-paint-marker.aspx http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-markers/=t5bli4

If you are looking to replace a broken one I think I still might have the one that I took of of my 88. it is a bit worn in the bushing area which is why I replaced it. But it is better than nothing. IF it didn't get "cleaned up" the last time thru the shed.

Need some advice, please...
Flyinfool replied to hmedina's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
IF that engine has had all of the proper maintenance and care and you continue with the proper maintainance and care, that engine will go 200,000 miles.
