Hi Yammer Dan - 1934 posts and still going strong. You are my hero! Prayers up from VanRiver too. -
I still have snow tires and chains on my Venture up here in Canada....this is a pic from this morning (April 25th).....When does spring come again?

Stupid solid turn signals...
VanRiver replied to MattK's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like your resistors are not "resisting"...or should I say they are resisting to resist? All joking aside, it sounds like you might have defective resistors or not the right ones to create the correct electrical "draw" to simulate the energy consumption that a regular bulb has to make your flasher work. I suggest that you test the resistors first to confirm they are working and giving the correct Ohm value they are supposed to be. Here is a quick video to show how to test a resistor with your multimeter: I recently used 50w 6 Ohm resistors on a car to make the flasher work with signal LED bulbs.....what resistor are you currently using for your Venture conversion? -
Great idea @zagger about the battery re-location! Do you happen to have any pictures of your hinge apparatus? I would love to see it!

Looks like the one I bought sold out pretty quick! But if you search on Amazon the terms "X-Grip Clamp Mount" you will find them for less $$. The original Ram mount even comes up with those search terms too.

Both @videoarizona and I are already taking up a collection for gas money and ice-cream coupons to get you out here Mr. Puc! Car washes, paper routes, or bake sales.....no matter what it takes we want to get you out here for a meet and eat! Thanks for the kind words about AZZI! Best $250 bucks I ever spent (still can't believe the guy sold it to me for that). Now if I could only find the time to figure out how to bolt on all those sweet V-Max parts you sent me then she will fly!

I don't usually recommend items on the forum but I thought I would share this as it is the best phone mount I have used so far on my motorcycle (and I have tried several and been disappointed many times). It is rock solid on my bike and has double "gripping" protection of the spring loaded arms as well as a "rubber strap" security feature to make sure your $1000 phone doesn't come loose and fall while you are riding down that rocky country road or at 80mph. Plus it has a built in USB port for charging the phone too that is controlled by a switch so you don’t have a drain on your battery while it is not being used. It comes with two 1” ball mounts (similar to the standard Ram ball mount) one for a U-bolt mount 1” ball AND the other for a mirror bolt 1" ball mount. It fits perfect on my Gen 1 using the mirror bolt mount that the radio/CB controls are also mounted on. I was too cheap to drop the major coin for the real Ram version so I bought this from Amazon for $24 (it was on sale at the time) instead, and couldn't be happier with the quality and function of the mount.....best I have used so far that fits a big phone like my iPhone 7 plus with a case on it Just thought I would share incase there is a fellow member in the market for a phone holder for the bike. Here is a link to Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Cimiva-Universal-Motorbike-Smartphones/dp/B01N12MRL4/ref=cm_sw_em_r_dp_dc_3GP-yb7A6YHED_lm?th=1 Here it is mounted on my 1986 Venture Royale holding my big iPhone 7 plus: Here is what comes in the package that I got:

Big thanks to my good buddy videoarizona for taking the time to meet me for lunch today......Pictures are proof that it really happened. As you can see it is another dark, cold a dreary day here in Phoenix.....NOT...... Perfect day for a ride so I brought AZZI out to say "Hi" to David. But once again VideoArizona drove his truck rather then letting me meet either of his beautiful Blue First Gen or fantastically pampered Second Gen Ventures! Can you believe I've never seen his bikes yet in person!!!!! To be honest, I'm starting to really wonder if he actually owns a Venture or if all the pictures that he has been sharing on the forum are just photoshopped with him sitting on random motorcycles he downloaded from the internet..... All joking aside, thanks David for your friendship, insight, advice, and wisdom as always! Great to see ya!

Hello Venture Guys and Gals! Need your expert advice....again! I have ridden motorcycles all my life (got my first z50 when I was 5 years old, and now I'm 43 and have graduated to the best bike in the world...our first Gen Venture's). Can you believe in all those years of riding I have never taken a long multi day road trip before! So time to do it and mark it off the bucket list. I'm planning to ride "Walt" my Black Canadian 1986 Venture Royale with 101,000 km on the clock from Calgary AB Canada to Phoenix Arizona his summer It will be a 1,587 mile adventure door to door (one way) according to Google maps anyway...that is 2554 km for us metric Canadians....and roundtrip of over 5,000 Km if old Walt survives and I ride him back home to Calgary, if not then he can stay at our AZ house for awhile and I can fly home instead. I will also be doing this trip Solo, just me and "Walt"......the wife does not have this type of trip on her bucket list, plus would like me out of the house for a few days. But before I hit the highway, I want to make sure I pack and prepare all the necessities I need for a trip like this on 31 year old motorcycle. I plan on wimping out and staying in hotels along the way rather then camping like some of the many more adventurous members we have here, therefore I don't need to worry about packing that type of camping gear. I know we have some hardcore million miler riders on the forum so I thought I would get your expert advice and wisdom on what I need to pack for the trip, as well as other suggestions on what I need to prepare for. So far I have: 1. One pair of semi-clean Underwear 2. Toothbrush 3. Swiss Army Knife with toothpick and tweezers (cork screw is optional as I don't drink) 3. Complete 1986 parts bike towed on a trailer by a spotter vehicle just in case. 4. Credit Card with a high credit limit so I can buy a new bike when "Walt" catches fire in the heat of a Arizona summer. Seriously though, any feedback and insight is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Have you started the Craigslist hunt for a nice Honda z50 for baby Samuel yet? Need to start the "Riding Buddy" training early!!! I'm in London UK this week, sure would be nice to have a bike over here to cruise the English country side! Can you hop on a boat and bring Tweeks II over for a ride? Keep on truckin' brother!!!!

Shout out to my Buddy videoarizona! Always great to escape snowy Canada and have lunch with my good friend David in rainy Arizona. Thanks for the great time and good conversation today! Hope the weather is nicer next time so we can finally take the Ventures out for a spin together! And that my old and tired 86 "AZZI" can keep up with your sweet "Blue Lightening" 89 when we hit the road someday. (Even with AZZI only running on 2 cylinders she is still faster then your Second Gen! )

Thinking of ya buddy.....prayers up and hugs all around! :bighug::bighug: :bighug::bighug: :bighug::bighug:

I love mechanical things! Be it motorcycles, big machines or just simply gears meshing together and turning, these things have always fascinated me ever since I was a kid. Well if you having a budding engineer in your family check this out as a potentially AWESOME Christmas gift for both young....or old like me. I think I'll be picking up the Business Card machine for my desk! I so need to buy a laser CNC cutter to make cool things like this!

Seafoam not recommended with this model! 1HP at the hooves!

Carb Diaphragm replacement.
VanRiver replied to CaseyJ955's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like we have a fair amount in common! I just ordered a my 1 5/8" mandrel bends and a 1983 FORD 2 BARREL HOLLEY CARBURETOR to start building my own single carb setup. As you may know from some of my other posts I'm building a 1300 engine with V-max heads to turn my bike AZZI into "AZZI-MAX"! I'm hoping this single carb setup will give me more flexibility and make it easier to tune in this new hotrod frankenstein engine I'm building....we shall see. I plan on building the header up here in Canada where I have all my fancy tools, and then hopefully taking the finished product down to Arizona to see if she runs as nice as PKR's project appears to. If you do build your own headers please keep in touch! We can compare pictures and notes along the way! -

Here is a pic of my extra set purchased from this guy.....and the business card that was included in the shipment from this eBay seller: Also if you are looking for another source to buy from I have purchased them from these guys as well: http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=1794 I believe if you call or email them and tell them you are "VentureRider" member they will give you an additional discount. The last I bought from them they cost me $79 with the discount included back in 2014. -

Hi CaseyJ955, Yes I bought 2 sets off this Ebay seller back in February of this year (2016). I paid $79.23 (each set) including shipping to Canada back then. They are good quality and fit well, I have one set installed and the other sitting here on my desk, so if you want a "Real" picture I can send them to you. The seller is also a good guy, I had some shipping problems as they took FOREVER to arrive from the UK to Canada, but he was very helpful and responsive during the process. Let me know if you need any additional info or pics. -
Hi CaseyJ955, Yes I can confirm that a right front R6/R1 calliper works great and bolts right on the back with no problem and no modification needed...it has slightly better gripping power but nothing too noticeable. I have 3 of my Venture's converted over running R6/R1 callipers (both Blue dot and Yellow Dot) on both front and rears of my bikes. Here is a pic of a Yellow dot on the rear of my Arizona 1986 Venture Royale named AZZI for reference. Might as well have the newer technology callipers all the way around in my opinion! Oh I forgot to mention.....only down side of using a right front calliper on the rear is, if you will notice in my picture the bleeder valve is now no longer positioned at the highest spot to get trapped air bubbles out when it is bolted in...this can be a real pain when bleeding as Mother Yamaha never intended this calliper to be laying in the down position on the rear ...but all I do to resolve this is I bleed the calliper when it is not bolted in on the back bracket. The hose is long enough to tilt the calliper up so the bleeder valve is at the highest spot, I put a scrap piece of metal, wood in between the pads and then bleed all the air out......then once all is good I finally bolt the calliper in to the rear bracket and life is good. Hope that helps.

I picked up my last batch off of eBay.

I personally think this is a cool looking bike and I will be a potential customer for it when and if they hit the road! For those talking about safety, I agree that a helmet will always be an important piece of kit no matter what tech there is in the future for any vehicle that doesn't have a cage around the driver.....but please remember that when this bike is on the road all the cars around you will also be "Driverless" or "computer driver assisted" too. This will significantly reduce the risk of stupid driver error that usually causes the majority of accidents. Also, the computer driven cars will be programmed to SEE and RESPECT motorcycles on the road compared to what happens today on the roads by silly humans. Instead of "Loud pipes saves lives" it will be "good technology in my Bike and the Cars around me saves lives". But of course, that is just my opinion... CNN has a cool "BMW promotional video" on the bike too if you are interested: http://www.cnn.com/videos/cnnmoney/2016/10/12/bmw-motorcycle-vision-next-100-cnnmoney.cnnmoney

Hi Formerfuzz Thanks for clarifying that the lever will not "Pull in". This is rather an interesting situation as usually the typical scenario is the lever pulls in too easy but does not actuate the clutch due to air in the lines or low fluid. I'm wonder if you have a corroded/seized master or slave cylinder. Although I have never personally had this exact situation on one of my bikes, I would suggest the following troubleshooting approach: 1. No matter what, draining and replacing your fluid should be done....plus it is cheap and easy to do. I would open the master cylinder reservoir and suck out any old fluid, and maybe even open the top banjo bolt or even the blender valve on the slave cylinder too and see if you can at least get the handle pulling in and out smoothly again with no fluid pressure on it. If the handle is still stuck with no fluid and pressure then you have a bad master cylinder. 2. Next I would open up the banjo bolts at the master and at the low connection point on the slave and see if you can blow air/fluid all the way through to confirm you don't have a blocked line/hose. 3. If the handle pulls fine with no fluid pressure and the lines/hose is free and clear then I would focus my attention on the clutch slave cylinder being sieved up and needing to be replaced. Long story short I don't think this is just a "Old fluid" issue, but I could be wrong, and I like being wrong in situations like this. But the good news is replacement Master and Slave cylinders are relatively easy to find fairly economical....ebay is your friend. Also if it is completely seized like you describe then I would not try to "rebuild" the offending cylinder as the corrosion would need to be EXTREMELY BAD to be completely seized up and would probably be safer to just replace it. Also please remember that Brake fluid LOVES to eat Paint!!!!! Keep all your plastic and painted surface protected while you are doing all this troubleshooting as brake fluid sprays and flows like water. Don't ask how I know this...just trust me.

Wow @mirider that is a Pretty Trike! Congrats on the upgrade and please don't think leaving the forum is a requirement......Even if I sold all my Ventures and only kept my Honda 50cc moped I think I would still hang out here due to the great people, not the bike I rode! Wow that is a good looking rig!!!!! Sorry, did I mention that already. What is this new scoots name? (if you name your bikes that is).
-
Congrats on the new Bike....hope the first gen goes to a loving home for some more happy highway miles! Sorry I'm not able to comment on the 13 model as I've never owned one, but would love to see some pics of this new scoot!

Screaming Eagle Race Tuner, the way it happened to me..
VanRiver replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Do those Doc's of yours have you on any "Seafoam" alternatives to break down that clot in the plumbing or does nature just need to take it's course over the month of laying low, elevation and heat? I'm really glad to hear that the risk of stroke is rare for this type of clot.....would be nice to have a inline filter or a conversion kit for a spin on filter installed just in case. All joking aside, hang in there buddy! Prayers up.
