  1. Several months ago when I would hit the starter I would hear a click or pop sound that sounds like it is coming from the left side under the seat. It might do this once or twice and then the starter would engage and the bike would start. This is getting worse. This morning I went out to start the bike and it took hitting the start button 6 or 8 times before the starter would engage. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
  2. What a horrible thing to happen. Sorry for the family. This bothers me a lot. When I leave home on my bike I wonder, "Is this the day I will be in an accident." It bothers me more when I have my wife on the back. If she got killed or lost a limb or was hurt seriously I don't know if I could live with myself. I am 63 and I have been surprised at the number of people I have insured bikes for over the years that come in the office to cancel their insurance because they sold their bikes. Everyone of them say, after years of riding and many close calls they are afraid their time may be coming up. Most of them are a few years older than me and most have bought convertible autos such as mustangs or the nissan 2 seater. I am beginning to have those thoughts myself.
  3. All I ever see in advertisements is the bolt. Does anyone buy that bike? I'm sick of seeing the bolt.
  4. The new year model of the venture has always been introduced around September 8 or 9. Haven't seen one this year yet. So for all the people that knew a dealer, someone with yamaha or that talked to yamaha USA, who said the new venture was going to be this or that, where is the new venture?
  5. I am a member of the Son's of Arthritis and have the tee shirt.
  6. I received an article this week that listed the top 10 makes of motorcycles that are stolen. The #1 most stolen bike is honda, yamaha was #2 and Harley was # 6. I'm not going to make any comment.
  7. There is a biker rally in Georgia at a place called Angel City. It's built like an old western town. The owner called me one day because he heard that I specialize in motorcycle insurance and said he would give me a deal on one of the rooms for an exhibit. I said sure and he was going over the list and then said I can give you a room next to the Outlaws. I said O My God, no, please put me somewhere else. He said in all the years he had the rally the only trouble he had ever had was from local people and that he had the name and phone number of the state president of the outlaws and the president said if he ever had a problem with them to call him. I took the room for an exhibit and never had a problem. The owner said the hell's angels wanted to come to the rally but he had to tell them they couldn't come because the outlaws said no.
  8. The left tab on mine is broken. This is the tab where the bolt goes through the inside of the fairing into the tab on the chrome piece. I have tried gluing the tab but it won't hold. This is the second chrome piece that this has happened to.
  9. What dkh3 said it correct. Why do I know? I had 5 rear ends and one clutch basket put on my bike before 30,000 miles. The first whine was corrected with the "I" basket at about 16,000 miles. When the rear dif was the problem the bike would be screaming at high speeds, 60 to 80 mph. The faster I went the louder it became. Today I have 67,000 miles on my bike and I get just a little whine at 80mph. If I go below or above 80 the whine goes away. The factory rep that yamaha sent to look at my bike said they got some bad rear difs from the company that mfg them for yamaha.
  10. If you get a new radio under warranty you will have the same problem again sometime. The fix for this is to go into the fairing and clean and grease the three big connectors. My radio did this a few months after I purchased it new in Sept 2005. Took it to the dealer and he was going to get the radio replaced under warranty. He called Clarion who makes the radio and was told to split the fairing and grease the connectors. I have to do this about every other year. It is a pain in the butt to have to do this but it is the way it is.
  11. I called yamaha USA and the person I talked to said I was going to be pleasantly surprised at the new venture coming out. That was 2009. No one with yamaha in the usa knows what yamaha is going to do.
  12. Hey RedRider, The part you show from pinwall is the radio, not the amp. The amps on ebay run around $400.00.
  13. The $12.00 for venturerider.org didn't have anything to do with it. I have posted several times regarding this issue and received no information that would have kept him from going to the dealer. There are amps on ebay for much less but he is afraid a used amp make not last.
  14. As I mentioned in previous post, the dealer has an 07 venture for sale. He took the controller off the bike and installed it on my friends bike. Still no sound. The dealer then took the amp from the bike for sale and installed it on friends bike. All works good now. The sound is back. Bad news. A new amp from yamaha is $1,489.99. My friend had a harley and after riding my venture he sold the harley because it was so expensive to have any work done on it and bought a 07 venture. He is pretty disgusted with the venture now saying it's no different than the harley as far as expenses. Last summer he went out west and the shock went bad. Cost him almost $1,000 by the time he paid for the shock, overnight deliver and installation. I hope I never have something like this to happen.
  15. Also, when the radio is on and you touch the speakers they are warm. Is this normal? I'm talking about touching the speakers with the fairing removed.
  16. My friend just called. The dealer has checked everything the yamaha service manual says to check and thinks it is the radio. The radio is $800.00 from yamaha. My friend asked if it isn't the radio can it be sent back. The service manager said no. Once you open the box and remove the radio it can't be returned. The dealer has a midnight 07 for sale and the service manager is going to remove the radio from it and put it in my friends 07 and see if it works. If so then they will know it is the radio. I don't believe it is but will find out. I think it's pretty crappy to tell you that you can't send a radio back if that is what they think is wrong. Yamaha ought to do better than that.
  17. I bought that adapter about 5 years ago. Am well pleased. With ear buds I can use any helmet and don't have to worry about installing speakers in helmet. The sound from earbuds is excellent.
  18. Hope you find what is wrong. The 07's must have a problem. My friend and I were riding, he has an 07, and his radio went off, heat and oil light came on. It was the selenoid switch. Got it fixed by dealer and now no sound from the speakers. Back to dealer. Hope to find problem.
  19. Hey Don, I don't have any hard feelings about what happened on the hog site. No need for you to waste your time looking for old posts. I may sign up for the site again. Thanks for your concern though.
  20. In 2008 I went on the hog touring site several times because I was thinking about getting an Ultra Classic. I also went on a site called Harley Tech Talk. On the harley tech talk site the guys don't give any slack to harley. At that time harley was having a problem with crankshafts breaking, even on new bikes. A lot of the harley guys were saying harley must be making the crankshafts out of silly putty. I went on the hog touring site and mentioned this and one guy got angry at me and said I was bashing harleys and left the site. I think it was Don's brother. I never went back because I was just repeating what some harley riders said but he blistered me for bashing harleys. I hope Don has success with the site.
  21. Hey Neil86, The problem with the bike starting without pressing the start button was the selenoid switch. It has been replaced but now there isn't any sound from the speakers. The first thing we checked was if the speaker was set to the external speakers and it is. But there isn't any sound using headsets either. Strange problem. Thanks for your reply.
  22. I posted previously about my friend that has an 07 venture. He had to have the selenoid switch replaced. Got the bike home and now no sound comes out of the speakers. Split the fairing and cleaned and greased the connectors but still no sound. I read many old post about this problem but none gave the answer as to what corrected this. Anyone have any ideas?
  23. I think the solenoid switch is under the seat. I think is has something to do with the starter, but I'm not sure. Someone pitch in and let us know.
  24. My friend called this morning. Technician said the problem was the solenoid switch. Didn't have a yamaha solenoid so is ordering one.
