  1. What kind of sound was it making? Just curious.
  2. My ride into work this morning at 9 AM down I-20 and I-45 from Moody to Birmingham (Hoover) was like being in a hair dryer. Even at 80 mph, it was HOT and sticky. Just glad that I only have a total of 3 traffic lights to deal with.
  3. Just be careful and no .
  4. That makes me feel better and the numbers I gave in last post are as accurate as the odometer will allow. I am hoping to tear the bike down maybe around the end of July to repaint it and figured that would be a good time to go ahead are replace the rear shock, front fork springs, adjust head bearing and check/adj valves. And, if I have enough funds at the time, get the Rick Butler seat work. I really love the bike and do not have any plans of getting rid of it in the next several years. It doesn't need a paint job, but doing it in memory of a dear 6 year old friend of mine that died last year from pediatric cancer. Her favorite colors were purple and pink, and will be painting the bike in 2004 Honda Kelly Magenta Candy. Hoping to be able to use the existing paint job on the bike as the base coat.
  5. I don't look forward to it. I have only one daughter (2 boys) and needless to say, she is her father's favorite child. She is beautiful, 24 years old with a great job and still lives under my roof in an apartment I had built for my ailing mother in law a few years back. I dread the day that this happens, as it will be a day that I am an emotional wreck. I wish you luck and looking forward to some pics, including the tux.
  6. I only shut mine off for maintenance reasons, such as removing the tank, and I would have probably done the same as you. While you and I would think it is silly to close the petcock, I know there are many that do.
  7. The '05 would be my choice, even though it is a few more $$$. Plus, for some reason, when I see a bike on a trailer, I always click the next button.
  8. Another note, bike runs great.
  9. Have read some people claiming they get as high as 46 mpg at non hwy driving, and I have once got that. I do have close to 37k miles on the bike now, and doubt valves have ever been checked. I log every expense into an app, including gas purchases and here are some of the numbers for the past 404 days of logging, and 11, 798 miles: Best fuel consumption: 46.07 mpg Average fuel consumption: 39.02 mpg Worst fuel consumption: 33.00 mpg The worst one was during a bike ride that I hosted and for some reason had to jump start the bike when kickstands had to be up. Not sure why battery died sitting there for about 2 hours in cold weather. But the rest of the day during our stops, I left it idling. Just been going by what many say here about gas mileage, miles on bike and have this extreme fear that my tolerances on 1 or more valves could be approaching, or even below the min tolerances. However, I do somewhat dread the job. I am a mechanic from a prior life, and can handle a wrench, but it seems to be quite a chore.
  10. Bought my '99 RSV a little over a year ago. It had 25k miles and had been well taken care of. A few very minor blemishes, but that is to be expected for a 15 year old bike. Paid $4600 for it. Didn't have the bling you speak of, like studded seats, but did have the saddle bag rails, trunk luggage rack, LED brake lights and brake light bar under the trunk, LED accent lighting (which I removed), rear lowering kit (which I removed), driver backrest and factory driving lights. Haven't had to do anything to it except oil changes and ride it. Did replace the tires recently with white walls. In the past couple of months, my rear shock has began leaking a little, so fixin' to have to fork out close to $500 for Hagon, or I could spend $100 more and go back with the OEM replacement. And, seeing what others get in gas mileage, I am suspecting that my valves may need adjusting very soon. Getting 36 to 38 on open hwy running at 80 +/- most of the time, and get around 42-43 when I do back road riding, and carbs are in sync. I didn't consider my purchase a steal, but considering all other bikes available at the time, a good buy. Lots of miles on the one you mentioned, but from all I have read, these engines are practically bullet proof.
  11. Not sure what that means, but just a month or so ago, I mounted the 777 whitewall on front and back of my RSV. Running 40 psi in rear and 36 psi in front. Have made the trip from Bham area to Smokie Mountains, rode the Dragon and other roads up there, including some very wet twisties and I am pleased with the performance. Only time will tell about how they wear. Over 80% of my riding is interstate since I ride it daily to work.
  12. Ok, need a mod to my RSV to replicate tip over protection. I'm impressed.
  13. Did the same a couple weeks or so ago.
  14. Correct, black pipe. I have a 60 gallon, 130 psi compressor under a roof behind my garaged and lined black pipe on the inside walls with quick connectors spaced out at various points. When running the pipe, teflon would not stop the air leaks and permatex did the trick. Been using ever since on all my air connections.
  15. 10-4 on the permatex. However, I have found a good use for it, and use it often just for this purpose. I use it is as a pipe sealer on all of my pipe fittings in my air systems, such as air hose connections. I could use pipe dope, but I am not a plumber and don't always have pipe dope, but I do always have permatex. Teflon tape is not very good for air.
  16. Dang. All these recent crashes should make us all put a lot of emphasis on safety and awareness to our surroundings. Praying everyone mends quickly with not lingering effects.
  17. Scary read but glad you are ok. Unlike you, I am wear only jeans and a tee shirt when riding (unless it is cold or raining) and convinced I would not have fared as well. Plus, the old body aint what it once was. And also like you. on my return trip from a week long trip to Tennessee mountains yesterday, I pushed the RSV pretty hard the last 120 miles or so, but it was beautiful weather.
  18. Love it! BTW, that song is a special one between me an my baby (24 yr old) daughter. Has been since she was a year or so old.
  19. May 29th at 12:33 PM. Stopped with the family to get a map of the area for our bear hunting (ended up seeing 6 bears and 4 deer). This was parked at the information center. Tennessee license plate. My entire week in the hills of Tennessee, I only saw 1 RSV.
  20. Here are a few giving peace to killboy.com. I really need to fix that kickstand. Yes, I am a big Auburn University fan.
  21. I think those two balls store Tennessee moonshine. Those hills used to be the home of Popcorn Sutton, greatest moonshiner that ever lived.
  22. WAR EAGLE! Other than the 15 to 20 miles of wet roads, was a great day. Now to wait for killboy.com to have my photos online.
  23. And, during the ride up, I am pretty sure my rear shock has lost about all it's fluid. I would notice a drip on it the past few weeks, and now it seems to, not bottoming out, but dipping mightly low in the bumps with a quick bounce back up. Regardless, I went ahead and rode it over 200 miles today in the hills around southeast Tennessee, including the Dragon and 441 from Cherokee to Gatlinburg. And, after spending over 6 hours in the saddle, I think I need to bite the bullet and get the Rick Butler seat rebuild once I am ever willing to park it that long. On my way thru the Tail of the Dragon earlier today. Oh, and it rained between Cherokee and Gatlinburg just prior to be approaching the mountain. Road was soaked all the way thru and makes those turns seem that much sharper and more plentiful.
  24. Due to running corn thru our carbs, products such as Seafoam have become a necessity. One riding mower carb I tore down a couple years ago had about a 1" diameter yellow glob in the bowl that had built up over about a 10 to 12 year span. I am convinced than an annual dosage of Seafoam could have prevented that.
  25. Aint nothing better than hearing the word pawpaw (or in my case, poppaw) from your grand babies. Have 2 myself, and they are my greatest accomplishments of the past (almost) 59 years. In my case, the icing on the cake was the youngest, my grandson, being born on my birthday.
