got the rear Pirelli Mt66 installed Wednesday and a 150 miles ride on Sunday ......... so far so good I don't have high expectations on durability but for a hundred bucks anything over 6k will be a bonus for me. I was tempted to try the shinkos too. the commander were made in Thailand and the Pirellis in Brazil

the minute we get on our bikes we are taking risks, we are all riders here ........ tires are a lot cheaper than medical bills, and if can be avoid it is no accident, an old toasted tire blowing on the freeway while you are doing 70 or 80 mph, regardless on how skilled experienced etc etc you are if it doesn't send you to a hospital at least is gonna scratch your bike. is just an opinion and, I've riding bikes for some time and many times had no choice and rode on tires that were beyond bald, but now I'm not that young to know everything, and if I have a chance to choose, I like the tires fresh and with some tread and if tomorrow a cager runs me over and kills me while he was texting so be it. that I can't avoid

you can get tires for around $100 .........Puc just found some front ones on amazon for $59 . just for a very short ambulance ride (just the ride) I'm paying close to $800 you do the math

from manufacture date I will no go over 7 years, 5 is ideal plus you don't know how exposed to the sun they were ................ you probably know but manufactured date is 4 numbers after The DOT the first 2 are the week the last 2 the year my tire arrived yesterday it shows 5012 than means middle December 2012. my Suzuki boulevard was 07 and was showing some very fine cracking don't take chances on tires
-
did not get much mileage out of the Michelin either lol I know just patching the tire from the inside would've been the right solution but I am not in good shape to do it myself, I'm new in the area, I'm just getting to know my mechanic, I trust him with my bike, but not with my life yet.

was trying to decide between the shimko tourmasster 230 and the Pirelli MT66 just ordered a Pirelli MT66 from Jake Wilson @ $99.99 at my door it should arrive Tuesday I know it was probably unnecessary but I don't need to have another worry right know I guess I'm even older that I think lol once again thanks every body Dan

because of the header I thought the weather was still cold over there

had a blow up front tire on a Taurus going from Vegas to LA at about 70mph,had a very hard time keeping the car on the road and destroyed the driver side fender, door and took all the plastics off. is a closed case for me going to buy probably a cheap shinko or Pirelli but at least no holes plugs or patches in it......................... if I get the most expensive tire in the market a 5 cent nail will ruin it just as well don't laugh at me they call me crazy for a reason but does anybody know or heard of road hazard insurance ???? like they offer on car tires ???
-
I'm not dripping money and kinda of frugal ........... but ridding my bike at 70-80 mph and worrying if the plug or the patch are going to hold it will take the fun and the grin away from me.......... on the other hand I know we are taking risks the minute we get in our bikes, cagers texting, all kinds of flying debris, chunks of truck tires etc etc. if my day comes so be it; my suitcase is already packed just don't want it any sooner because I did not spent an extra $140. right now I just ridding only 5 to 10 miles at the time and no freeway when I get better I'll celebrate with a new tire !!!!!
-
just went to my mechanic he said he will patch it for just the cost of the assembly and re balance ($60) He swears it is completely safe and he does it on his sport bike.......... also said not to ride on plugs for long distance ...................:confused24: I can get a Pirelli MT66 for a hundred bucks anyone had use this tire ?????

That phrase isn't mine !!! I can barely speak English lol !!! I used to work for many years at the Portofino Hotel and yacht club in Redondo beach California where Bob *****in lived and had the offices of his Magazine "latitudes and attitudes" I always was positively impressed by this guy attitude and personality, just fell embarrassed posting his name lol Dan

30 y/o it is a great age!!!! but wait a minute!!!! I was 30 yesterday!!! wake up today and I'm 52 and mirrors aren't my friends anymore lol best wishes man and remember “The difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude.”

I know this isn't the type of answer you are looking for and, I don't know your age but the longest trip begins with the first step . I rode bikes since I can remember and my number one dream was to ride xcross country or better yet I was going to ride the three Americas even had the bike but war in central America in the early eighties stopped me ........... then time, money, jobs, children etc etc finally after 30 years, I was going to go from coast to coast hitting at least part of route 66 this was the year!!! had the right bike and some time to spare don't have a lot of money but I don't need much ................ couple of months ago fell off my house roof and now 30 miles seems to be 1500 miles I have faith but I'm full of doubts as well and I don't know if I going to be 100% again, I'm 52 and not in the best shape so time is my worse enemy ........ I guess like one of our members says I can be use as a bad example lol get some ridding and protective gear some basic tools (if you know how to use them) a credit card and a good towing service (AAA motorcycle you can get 100 miles free towing I think) this is a great country where there are good roads great service and great people everywhere. the perfect time or the perfect equipment will never come. just do it.

I'm just venting here ........... I went for a short ride this morning because my back still hurts. on my way back found my brand new Michelin commander with less than 300 miles rear tire with a screw in it, plugged the tire and holds pressure but I don't think nor fell safe anymore just money down the toilet again:confused24: with the luck I've been having lately I think I gonna need a church bell instead of my guardian bell

it always amazes me how our brains works and or get trigger but different circumstances, after falling off my home roof on Feb. 6th ......... I'm riding only short distances my back still hurts, and I feel the same way you do I guess made us realized of how really fragile we are . for years I did electrical work and every now and then you get a Zap and it was kind of a reminder that you were getting too confident and was time to pay more attention at what you were doing we are all different and need different times to work thinks out but I'm a firm believer on getting back on the horse who threw you (on my case back on the ladder lol) you not going to stop showering because you have fallen in the bathtub once , but is only you who will know when the time is right do not force yourself hope you can understand what I'm trying to say with my broken English here. and get well soon. Dan

that is why I wont' hesitate to go Led on running lights ........ but for turning signal lights I will think twice about it. there are blinking/flashing leds I would research and try to use those and eliminate the flasher
-
Excuse my ignorance but I've always wondered if you have to put and extra load(resistor) in order to make a flasher work etc doesn't kind of kill the purpose of installing led to lower consumption?

I think this is the one they were talking about

could not think of a better place to ask this : I know diesel engines aren't very popular in the US and a diesel motorcycle is almost unheard of .................... I know there are Royal enfield made in india with diesel engines Recently I've heard the Army is going to use/try diesel motorcycles because fuel is always available from their trucks I think Kawasaki had a diesel engine some time ago. can you image over a 100mpg and more than 500miles on a tank no spark plugs carburetor to be sync etc etc that will be some serious touring bike lol Has anybody seen or better yet ride one ???
