  1. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!!! ATTA BOY CARL!!!!! Yep,,, went to button her up and noticed my, could have been catastrophic boo boo. That will teach me to, especially at my age, get distracted when doing a job even as simple and straight forward as a stator replacement.. Telling you guys,, things get complicated when get into grandpaville.. GOOD EYE @Marcarl!!
  2. Nobody has it yet.. Keep looking LOL.. A hint,,, within a very short period of time I would have been replacing the stator again..
  3. Our weather has been just starting to warm to the point of actually allowing for prepping Tweeks for the upcoming summer without my fingers freezing to metal surfaces anytime I touch them and Tip is almost done healing from recent cataract surgery so I thought I would take a few minutes and begin the Stator install process. In the process of the install I did keep getting interrupted by neighbors showing off the new E-Bikes so I was doubly cautious about making sure I had everything ready to roll before completing the project. After removing the old stator that had gone to ground, installing the new stator in the case cover, cleaning up surfaces, reinstalling the starter drive gears in the correct positions I took one last glance at my work and noticed an opppsssy.. This is test,, can you see what I saw that I did wrong?
  4. After many many years of dealing with OEM Japanese bikes going as far back as the 60's and including both Street, Dual Sport enduro's and even my MX bikes I have suspected that all of the Metric Manufactures including Mom Yam used some form of fish oil for their suspention dampening needs, including fork oils, due to the horrid smell always associated with swapping in new oils. Ironically my numerous encounters with the MK1's were some of the worst in odors when dealing with OEM original swaps. Combine that with the ink pen springs Mom Yam provided as a means of supporting the weight of the bike it is no wonder that my MK1's ALWAYS went to a whole new level of handling both on road and off road just by going Belray 12w for fork oil and dropping in a set of Progressives setup with 1" of preload and never ever needing any form of air above the oil to provide perfect riding for 100's of thousands of miles... After emptying of that nasty OEM stuff and going with Belray I never experienced and form of odors...
  5. What 1 gun, long gun or handgun, have you been excited/hyped about and then bought it and found it fulfilled all your dreams? My thread so I will go first LOL.. A Beretta 92f has been on my bucket list for years. I have owned lots of great shooting handguns, and rifles too, that I totally enjoyed shooting and hunting with thru the years. I took several deer with both my Smith 29 and my 1911 - both wonderful classics that were a joy to own. Even my life long joy of owning Rugers, including the little MK1 I bought brand new back in the mid 70's for $75, have been right up there. I have to admit though that something magic happened between me and the Beretta 92f when I lifted it off the table at a Gunshow back when it was first introduced. A "feel" like none other. A since of "this sucker comes to point of aim just like my LEO father always told me a shooter should do" came over me. That is when the Beretta 92 got on my bucket list. Life got quickly complicated after that incident though (got married, had kids) and I never did get to own one of these iconic beauties, until now. My brand new 92A1 arrived shortly after winning the auction on GB this past winter. A good supply of Snap Caps arrived shortly there after as did my assortment of hammer springs to begin the process of finding out how light I get Tony's (what I named my A1) trigger pull set and still maintain reliable primer hit on a vast array of ammo including steel case. I knew a healthy supply of ammo was not going to be cheap and I LOVE to shoot (both long range - 200 yards) and point and shoot at several yards which takes lots of practice beyond what snap cap dry firing can provide so I was absolutely thrilled to see Beretta offered a 22lr conversion kit that consisted of a slide/barrel combo that would allow me to use my A1's receiver and fire control group. I found out that Beretta coupons were readily available and ended up getting a brand new Conversion Kit that came with 1-15 round mag. After ordering 2 extra 15 round mags I ended up with under $275 for the whole set up - NICE! To say the least, I have been excessively pleased with Tony's functionality, reliabilty, accuracy and "point of aim". Seeing him win the "sexiest" handgun award on youtube also came as no surprise because that Tony is definitely a looker, another plus I reckon. I live in a very resort type of setting here near the Lake Michigan shoreline. A real nice, quiet area with tax payer owned land (State Land) where shooting is allowed located about 15 minutes away. I can legally shoot off my deck but choose not to as there are children in the area and I just dont go there so I have been really missing our home over near near Ravenna where we had over 4000 acres of that tax payer owned land right out my back door and I could target practice any time I wanted. The Pellet gun practice from my deck was just starting to get tiring when I noticed some video's of people shooting Aquila Super Colibri 22lr ammo as a cheap way of going silencer. I also noticed in a couple of those video's at an even lesser decible Colibri in the "standard" Colibri. A few days after watching that video I noticed one of our MGO club members had 3 bricks of the standard for sale over on the east side of our state, my wife and I could not get in the car fast enough to run and pick up those 3 bricks with the hopes that Tony would hand cycle the stuff.. Guess what,, HE DOES SO with pure and solid NO JAMMING!! In a nut shell,, Tony the Beretta 92A1 who is sitting right next to me at this time watching Bruce Willis take down the bad guys with one of Tony's older brothers is,, without question, my number 1 choice of guns that I had a life long hype about and has earned a perfect 100% in the "WOW, THIS THING IS EVERYTHING I DREAMED OF AND THEN SOME" category.. Now its your turn! Puc
  6. Thanks @Flyinfool, I thought so... Here is my latest addition to the fold you bunch of lop eared varmints. This little shooter was just to precious to leave behind in the dark corner of another friends gun cabinet. It came with a bunch of spare parts he had gathered thru the years as well as a holster.. Its a surprisingly good shooter even though it only holds 6 rounds. Being a 22lr it is also affordable to play with.. Next item of discussion is this extremely quiet 22lr ammo, Colibri by Aquila.. Any of you varmints ever played with this stuff? Since getting my 22lr conversion kit for my Beretta (see last set of pics) I have been watching and waiting for some of this to pop up. The advantage for me is, even though it wont cycle the action on my Beretta or 10/22 or this new little Jennings, I can shoot it quietly here at the house and because my Beretta lower reciever is still being used with the conversion kit, I can practice with my fire control group on my Beretta with out offending neighbors - wayyy cool!! If your thinking of doing this be reminded that the Super Colibri is louder than the standard (which is what I have). YES, the standard is slower ballistically BUT,, wayy quieter.. It is actually quieter than my daisy pellet gun and MUCH quieter than my Ruger Pellet gun. Just an FYI.. SOO MUCH FUN!!

    Engine Oil

Isnt that strange,, here in our area it was ALWAYS Pennzoil that created the sludge in the old days.. Quaker was ALWAYS the go to oil around here.. I cant tell you how many Chevy 283's ended up in my possession because of Pennzoil usage.. Cams lobes ran right off them.. On another note, I think it may be Honda Line oil that is crystal clear if memory serves me right.. I use to have a neighbor who worked for an oil distributer who also kept my oil supplied for free via damaged product from their warehouse and I had a bunch of bike oil that was clear as water.. I actually saved the stuff and ran it in my own bikes cause I always liked being able to see when the oil was dirty at a glance...
  9. Usually I, just by loosening the clamps up to wide open, heating up the intake manifolds some if they are stiff cause its cold out and lubing the intakes with some WD 40 I can snap them in with hand pressure. There have been occasions however that I ended up covering the carbs with a rag so nothing could drop into them, then laying a stack of 2x4's over the top of them so I ended up with a flat area I could lay a long 2x4 across the lower ones giving me a good solid surface to press down on while a moved pressure a little angle at a time. My money is on once you heat the rubber a little with a heat gun so they are pliable and spray them with lube they will pop right in.. Having the clamps real loose is also essential,, as is making sure they are all slightly started when you press down on the carb bank..
  10. Hi @Gary N.,, how you folks been? Gary I tried the higher dollar, extended range tires numerous times over the years (including the new Dunny E-4 that is on Tweeks right now) and was always impressed with getting over 6500 miles on the rear tire while running desert temps, fully packed and running two up. The ONLY real issue I ALWAYS ran across was having the knowledge that there was NO WAY on God's green earth I was going to be able to spoon the off during a road trip if needed. Here in the States, it is customary (it seems) for dealerships to charge x2 or X3 the going rate once your bike is towed in with a flat to get you back on the road. For that cause, and also because I REALLY have never cared for someone else swapping on tires for me when I like to see what things look like internally, I have always stuck with less expensive tires that I can pop on and off myself at roadside (or bike shop parking lot if needing a new tire so I can cash and carry). I have had several flats, front and rear, while touring over the years and in my case the softer rubbered, less stiff sidewalled tires have always been my go to. I was also one of our group who gave Metz a fair try and was VERY dissatisfied with the results = delaminization on more than one occasion, personally it would have to be a very special occasion (like it was the only tire available and I was in a bad situation) that would cause me to go Metz to this very day.. You know me,, I always LOVED to experiment with my bikes and had I of been able to find a Car Tire that would have not had clearence issues on one of my MK1's I would have loved to have tried one. I know Bill (screen name Jake something) had really good luck running one on his wing (see vid) that was a "run flat" design or something like that.. I was amazed to think 20 thousand miles and still good tread and to have NO worries about a flat during that whole time period = oh heck yeah,,, my mouth drueled over such a huge advantage.. IF I were in your shoes and IF you can find something similar for your bike that is the direction I would go in.. I KNOW Bill personally and KNOW he was shooting 100% square with me on all the advantages of the Car Tire on his scoot.. If that is not possible and me being me,, I would never venture back into an E4, Metz, Michillin or any other of the long distance tires but would stick with having to spoon on and off 3 or 4 less expensive, doable with my own tools tires.. Of those, my very favorite of all are the Shinko 230 Tour Masters that @videoarizona got me hooked on.. Out of allll the cheaper tires I have ran the Shinks always balance out well, have excellent grip in all types of weather known to man (including off roading), get the best mileage for the low end tires and are always an easy spoon off and on.. There my friend,, thats all I got.. Regardless of what you choose,, have fun out there brother and ride safe!! Your ol buddy Puc.. (Gary start on 9 minutes in to go directly to Bill explaining the tire)
  11. @Squidley, you got a chance to toss a leg on one of the new Wings Brad??
  12. Congrats on the new scoot Steve!! Still waiting for pics here!! Got an O4,, any idea of whether its the A or B motor? Either way, if its an 04 its probably an 88 inch? Back then HD had issues with soft cam chain tensioner material that would shred and fill the oil pump with shavings. Might not be a bad idea to pull it down and update the tensioners, put a high output pump in while in there if it hasnt been done.. Other than that those 88's were good engines imho. When you finally find the round tuit needed for the pics of your HD,, read the back of the round tuit and see if you notice a note on there that says "include pics of your Chopper".. Puc
  13. Good question @BlueSky,, very good question! Sky, in that we are talking handgun, not long gun, this is what I do/did here in Michigan. The first thing I did was ran an ad in the local "Buyers Guide", its a freebie paper that lots of locals read and that still allows shooters. I sold my AR15 there at a really good price. Next up for us in Michigan is Michigan Gun Owners group, a website/forum that I belong to. I sold everything else thru that forum. Here in Michigan a CCW - CPL carrier can buy handguns person to person and handle all the paper work on their own. I also have a local Pawn/Gun shop that does $20 transfers so a person buying does not have to do the purchase permit thru the LEO office. Gunbroker dot com would be another option for you except your sales would have to work both ways thru an FFL. Being an FFL, that same Pawn/Gun shop is willing to ship for us here in this area if we want to go Gunbroker for gun sales of private sales. Another option of course would be to place your shooter for sale here on VR. I am not sure but I think @Flyinfool sold his 7-08 here,, I do know he had it for sale here for a while at least, perhaps that WWW of a varmint will chime in.
  14. Hi @Thumper and welcome!! Glad you found us!! Another "Scott" (my real name) from Muskegon Mi USA greets you and your gorgeous steed!!
  15. Here is an interesting aspect of all this that I just experienced. Tweeksis stator had gone to ground so I ordered up stator, regulator, gaskets, sparkplugs to get her ready for those trips around the hood.. Stator was advertised with free Priorty Mail shipping.. I got the tracking number and was following it. To fulfill the 3 day priority it had to be here Monday.. Monday was also one of Tips cataract surgery days. When we got home there was no package in the mailbox containing the stator. There was a note on my tracking number that read: NO ACCESS,, Undeliverable. Yes, our road has a barracade on it because of a washed out bridge from last years 500 year floods BUT,, USPS has been delivering on time since Head scratch... I stopped at the post office to pick up the package Tuesday but they would not even talk to me with out the tracking number (never even thought to write it down).. Went home to get it and there in the mailbox was my stator.. Bottom line,, I have a HUGE sneaking hunch that the NO ACCESS was just an excuse to keep the seller from filing a claim and getting a refund on the priority mail costs.. Scammers lol
  16. You nailed it again @uncledj!! For many years I bought reloads, dirt cheap = 19 cents a round for my .45, from a huge reloading company who reloaded for both retail and LEO. Their current prices are way up above .70 for the same ammo I was buying a year ago only recently they had a notice posted that said "our ammo prices reflect the fact that we have been unable to obtain primers for several months. We are now in the process of setting up a manufacturing plant to produce primers for our own consumption and to assist in the current primer scarcity the industry is experiencing."..
  17. Current prices at Dunhams in Muskegon Mi. I guess the only caveat is they actually have something, anything, in stock at this time! 18. My guess is an early life saving device for Lumber Jacks working more than 10 feet off the ground,, probably known back then as a Sky Hook. On the fast track down after the Jack mis-stepped one of his tree spurs he would simply unhook this from its scabbard found on his belt and toss, like an anchor, into the branches going by at warp speed. Of course,, most of those great American hero's were intelligent enough to attach a rope into that hoop above the hooking device before tossing it.. Noticing that your fathers specimen does not have said rope Orlin,, I am guessing that this one in particular was owned by a less intelligent Lumber Jack and that is also why your Dads Sky Hook is still in such very good condition. Probably spent its life stuck in the branches of 70 foot Douglas Fir tree while protected by the trees canopy above.

    Engine Oil

Paul I have had really good results staying with Dino for my 1st Gens, probably so because I prefer to change my oil as it discolors and/or the shifting gets notchy. For over 1 million miles I ran Walmart Supertech 10/40 in cooler climates and 20/50 in desert regions. One of the things often overlooked on Unit motorcycles (bikes whose clutch is bathed in the same oil that lubes the engine) is the contamination that takes place as clutches wear and tear and trannies shear the oil. My Hybrid car LOVES 0/20 full synthetic with a 10,000 mile oil change and the oil after all those miles, even after chasing triple digits across the desert comes out amazingly full bodied and clean but where the bike would show dirtied in just a couple thousand miles under the same conditions.. When Walmart stopped shelving Supertech a while back I switched over to Family Dollar dino and had the same results. Be reminded to stay far away from ANY "energy conserving" oils,, your clutch wont like you should you get into that stuff..

    Engine Oil

I would take my dremel tool with cut off discs attached and reform the hex to 11mm if I wanted to save the bolt/feed tube. My second choice would be a really good set of vice grips or even a pipe wrench and back it out. That particular "bolt" can be a son of gun if it was put in with dry O-rings (not everyone practices the art of lubing 0-rings before they install them,, ever tried to remove an Oil Filter on a car that was installed with the O-ring dry?).
  21. ""Touring on Tweeks across America with my dad is like taking part in the best movie ever made while sitting in the saddle and looking out at the audience who are watching the movie being made" - My 10 year old Daughter with earned biker name of "AhWahHoo"..
  22. INDEED @buddy!! I can verify that cause these things are PERFECT on my once repaired but still needing surgery neck at C2 spine, Dupentrens infected left hand, pacemakered tuned heart, herniated abdomen where they pulled the fist sized tumor, titanium spliced together lower spined body!! YOU are on the right track! Just make sure you get a regenerative motor so you never have to push and you'll be in business!! @ragtop69gs,,,, OH MAN RAGGY,, YOU NAILED IT!! Remember those huge hills along our lakeshore? WOWZY WOW WOW,, 5th "gear" on the motor potentiometer choice so I get full power to the motor,, wack the throttle and this little sucker CLIMBS!! Not yet! As soon as I tumble down a couple mountains and twist up a neck (on the bike) I have plans of chopping mine with a 10 over springer and that will DEFINITELY have hiway pegs @Marcarl Nailed it @Squidley,,, nailed it bigly my precious brother! Stickers not needed to hold these together YET @SpencerPJ LOL.. Just an FYI,, this model is very well done on the welds (I tigged for years for the Boilermakers and still got just about enough eyesight left to still be able to undercutting and lack of pen) brother and full suspention. It is rated at 330 pounds with over and under gusseting on the neck to seat tube cross bar.. Seems to be very well built, IMHO so far. My neighbor seen ours and now has 3 on order. Problem is, our rugged Military looking steeds are sold out and he ended up having buy a girly bike model LOL Thanks for posting that pic of Tweeks @saddlebum, sooo many precious memories in her and her earned stickers.. She is not done yet either, I just ordered new stator, regulator, gaskets, plugs, oil filter and will be going thru her very soon in prep for showing off our local amazing lake shore riding to unaware visitors to our area.. The coast to coast touring and tent camping days may be gone (but wow what memories) but Tip, Tweeks and I will ride locally as long as possible. As far as stickers on the e-bikes,, they gotta earn em and when they do I will find a way!! Only if I drag them behind Troop to make the rear wheels of the bikes spin in regen mode LOL.. What you talking about @Flyinfool,, you know neither of these bikes can read and better than I can so any comments made by the Manufacture dont mean much to either of us LOL LOL,, Corporal Newkirk,, LOL!! No wiser or more perfectly put words have ever been spoken @RDawson LOL... One time, while Tip, Tweeks and I were miles and miles back on the single track/outback of the Black Hills of South Dakota Tweeks and I were discussing this very issue. We both came to the same conclusion,, that being that the decision of whether or not any motorized two wheeler is capable of off road adventure is 100% a decision to be made by bike and rider,, not by some engineer sitting behind a computer drawings circles and squares LOL
  23. Here is one more step in us finding things to share in together during our wonderful retirement years, ELECTRIC BICYCLES!! After 3 months of researching E-Bikes we chose to spend the extra bucks and go for a pair of the Rattan LM-750's. If you click on my host name in youtube (Puc Puc) found below this video you will find countless videos thru the years of us criss-crossing/tent camping in our great country on Tweeks, our 1983 Yamaha Venture and then, after illness kicked us off riding long distance on our motorcycle we started traveling/camping in our brand new 2018 (has 75k on it now) Hyundai Ioniq named "Trooper". Some of the things we looked for in E-Bikes was smaller 20" wheels, 4 inch tires for stability, at least a 750 watt motor to climb the big hills, at least a 13ah battery, lights with brake lights, REGENERATIVE motor to recharge batteries when coasting and totally foldable so we could put both bikes inside Trooper with us when we traveled. We found all that, AND MORE, with this particular set of bikes. These bikes also have THROTTLES so we can ride them like Mopeds (which I do 95% of the time, WOW is that fun!!) and Cruise Control! The mechanical normal bike tranny is a 7 speed and the motor pedal assist options a 5 "speeds". These will run a top speed of 24 mph which is wayyy faster than we enjoy bicycle travel. What a wonderful way to enjoy the freedom of the great American outdoors with your best friend!!
  24. If my memory serves me correctly the splash plate update came out first with no wire. I updated my very first MK1 back in 87 and I dont think the swosh wire was included. By the time I had gone thru that new stator in that 1st one though the wire addition had come out. I am almost positive the wire was added to keep the orfice that the oil squirts thru from the crank open and clean..
