  1. I learned this technique long ago and it has never failed me yet. Put the front wheel against an immovable point on your trailer (wheel chock, wall, etc.), Attach RATCHETING straps to either side of the handlebars and then to mounting points to the side, but also forward of the handle bars. compress the suspension completely using the ratchet straps. With the suspension completely compressed and the wheel locked in place, the bike is totally secure because the handlebars have to move in order for the bike to fall over. Sounds too simple to be true, I know, but it works!
  2. You folks are ALL awesome. Welcome Brad to the biggest Family in all Creation!
  3. Merry Christmas everyone! Does anybody know if the Venture counter-balancer is retro-fittable to my 1999 RSTC?
  4. Hucklecatt, I have replied twice to your last PM but neither of my messages seem to have gone through. I am out of country and will be back tomorrow, so I will try again then. Kurt.
  5. I agree. As riders it is in our best interest to stay focused on our driving and the information OUTSIDE of our helmets. HUD's should be in cars.
  6. Congrats! I think that what you have is a Deluxe, because of the hard bags. I have a 99 Tour Classic and it was stock with those Gawd awful looking faux-leather droopy-azed bags, which I replaced with hard bags right away. I still have the originals if someone is into fuggly saddle bags... Anyway, WELCOME and enjoy your new sweet ride. I have the carbs, cams, and ancillary intake parts to do the 32mm carb swap upgrade on mine. I just need to make the adapter plates and some time to do the deed!
  7. Nice! I wouldn't count on too many of the young'uns getting it though. T!he Periodic Table isn't on the keypad of their phone!
  8. A large/deep enough pot-hole could tweak your front wheel in the forks enough to misalign your handlebars slightly. If I were experiencing your issue I would line up the front wheel parallel with the rear ones and secure it so that it couldn't move. Then loosen the triple tree pinch bolts on the forks slightly (not until they are sloppy)and twist the handlebars until they align with the front wheel again. Re-torque the pinch bolts. If the fork tubes are not out of true that should help with your wear problem. Hope this helps!
  9. Excellent trade!
  10. Hmmmm, crickets. Okay, thanks anyway!
  11. OMG! I have GOT to have one of his stickers for my RSTC, just think of the "street cred"...
  12. Greetings All, Is there anyone who knows if someone is currently making (and selling) the 28mm to 32mm adapter plates that Mr. Lynn Nicholls designed?
  13. It must be my tired old eyes, but I can't see that dang shade tree...
  14. try Partshark.com. They undercut Bikebandit for Yamaha parts.
  15. Yeah, that must have happened to the PO of my bike. I was just leaving my neighborhood with my wife on board when she (the bike) started stuttering so I reached down and switched to reserve, 10 feet later we were no-go. Seems that the taller tube had come out and the PO just removed it, effectively removing the reserve feature. My wife was less than enthusiastic about hiking back to the house to drive back a 5 gallon can of "hurricane gas".
  16. Gary. Excellent. Thanks again!
  17. Gary, AWESOME! Thank you. One thing, are the cam sprockets the same for the two motors and can I use the Venture valve springs (duals) with the Vmax cams?
  18. Greetings everyone, Does anyone here know, or know where to find the procedure to time Vmax cams in Gen2 Venture heads mounted on a Royal Star block?
  19. Thanks for all of the input Gents but the question remains, will 2nd Gen Venture heads be a direct swap onto my 99 Royal Star block?
  20. Greetings, Since I am planning to install 32mm carbs on my '99 Royal Star TC, from '99 or up Venture I thought that I may as well do the cams as well, and If I do the cams I might as well do the valve springs too, right? Well the springs (on Bike Bandit) are $25 per valve, that's $400 plus a set of cams from Ebay for $145, plus shipping. I can get a complete pair of "06 heads on Ebay for $250 plus shipping. Seems like a "no brainer", so naturally my question is, will the '06 Venture be a direct swap to my '99 RSTC? Thanks!
  21. Thanks for the tip on the pilot jets Ace. I have been reluctant to modify the exhaust because I don't buy into the "Loud pipes save lives" BS. The danger to us riders is primarily from the front, and those people usually have the windows up, AC on, radio on, plus cell phones now to distract their driving. The only thing that Loud Pipes do is to piss off the motorists beside and behind you. Don't get me wrong, I like a nice mellow rumble but I'd hate to drill out my mufflers and then realize that I hate the way that they sound, and then have to replace them.
  22. Greetings to all, I know that this is an old topic but it is something that I would like to do after having read the procedure posted by Lynn Nicholls. My only question(for now) is how will the "hotter" Venture cams affect the ignition timing set-up. I have a 1999 RSTC with the Bigfoot airbox/carb mod. I didn't realize too much of a performance increase from this mod and the intake roar is horrendous, at 70mhp I can't even hear my stock exhaust. will I need to partially de-mod my airbox for the new carbs? I'd like to get back to around my original 40-42 mpg. The post- Bigfoot mpg's are mid to low 30's with 22.5 pilot and 120 main jets. Thanks!
  23. My '99 RSTC came with D404 whitewalls. The rear was worn enough to replace and since I didn't care for the whitewall look, I replaced them both with Pirelli 66 Routes. WOW! The bike handles like it lost 200lbs. Awesome tires, quiet, smooth, good traction in the wet, and cheaper than the Dunlops.
  24. You mean like overhead cams and water cooling? LOL!
  25. How about this. A Florida Drivers License is NOT a valid proof of I.D. at a Florida DMV!
