uncledj Posted Sunday at 10:33 AM #1 Posted Sunday at 10:33 AM Nope. I don't need a stator, at least not yet. I was thinking of getting a replacement stator / gasket to keep handy in case of failure, which seems to sometimes happen, and usually at a bad time. I see there's stators readily available online, but prices are all over the map. What should I look for and what should I avoid? Opinions appreciated.
dueyk1111 Posted Sunday at 11:33 AM #2 Posted Sunday at 11:33 AM stay away from the chinese crap! your better off to pay a little more for us stuff or mother yamaha stuff. i've not had much luck lately with china crap! just my opinion!🤔 1
WIZ Posted Monday at 07:54 AM #3 Posted Monday at 07:54 AM I would stay away from the high output stators, I put one in my first 1999 venture. I replaced the engine after only about 10,000 miles and when I checked the stator it had burned half of the stator, looked as bad as the one that I replaced with at least 70,000 miles on it. Higher output equals more heat. 3
Marcarl Posted yesterday at 12:43 AM #4 Posted yesterday at 12:43 AM RM stator used to have good reviews, don't know if they are still around though. https://www.rmstator.com/ 1
uncledj Posted yesterday at 10:06 AM Author #5 Posted yesterday at 10:06 AM RM? I see a lot of Ricks, some OEM and some OEM used. Caltric seems to be all over the place...(cheap) Cheap seems nice as an emergency spare, but I've been burnt by Mr. Cheap a few times. Again, just as an emergency spare I don't know if I should spring for the extra $$$ just for the piece of mind. I'm so confused....
Marcarl Posted yesterday at 12:19 PM #6 Posted yesterday at 12:19 PM Rick's was a good choice as well. Know that the present stator will fail sometime down the road, especially if you load it with more than stock or run the battery down regularity.
dueyk1111 Posted 20 hours ago #7 Posted 20 hours ago ricks sell alot of chinese parts. i put one in from them and it didn't last very long. FYI
Paul Baker Posted 20 hours ago #8 Posted 20 hours ago So how long did it last? what if any addition load do you have that draws from the battery. (Extra lights, upgraded audio, heated clothing.) I realize that aftermarket in this case is much, much cheaper and OEM is crazy high price but are these aftermarkets absolutely junk but they seem to sell them every day. I am looking at a new stator - gasket - and Rectifier and dealer quote is $595.44 including tax. Don't think i will go that route so looking at aftermarket even if it lasts a few years.
RDawson Posted 17 hours ago #9 Posted 17 hours ago I’ve got 90k miles on the OEM and counting. If it fries I figure one more OEM will last the rest of my life, small investment for that many miles.
Chaharly Posted 17 hours ago #10 Posted 17 hours ago I will agree on avoiding high-output stators. I got like 5k miles on mine. I was then frustrated and bought a 30 dollar one from Amazon and got like 20k or more miles out of it. Now I'm running a Rick's stator. 10-15k miles on it so far and working good. We'll see how long it lasts.
