  2. If it quits on you again like that take the gas cap off and see if you can hear air rushing into the tank, that will be a dead give away that the vent is plugged. The vent hole for the tank is visible in the neck of the fuel filler hole, if you take the bezel plate off that holds the speedo you should see a tube exiting the filler neck, that connects to a rubber hose that exits below the motor, You can take some canned air and try blowing air through the hose from the top to the bottom after you take it loose from the metal tube, sometime critters like mud dauber wasps will build nests in the end of that rubber hose. The 98 year model of the Tour Deluxe and the Tour Classic have the ignition switch mounted up front on the frame right behind the radiator they get cooked with all the heat from the radiator are are prone to failure, I had to have the ignition switch on my 98 Tour Classic replaced under warranty, supposedly Yamaha knew about the problem and when the shop replaced them they used a heavier duty switch than the OEM. Mine would some time fail just as you described, before the replacement, never did it again after the replacement and that bike went well over 100,000 miles. Hope this helps

  4. Great to hear you are back on the saddle. I've been riding as well over here since Monday after all the rain over the weekend. As far as your pilot jet issue is concerned, some may say to run seafoam through and hopefully the rough idle 'I assume' will go away. Ride safe.
  5. Ok. Where is the vent? I tried googling and if it's what I think I saw, does mean taking the gas cap apart.
  6. Hi @skydoc_17 I am interested in a set of these for my 2012 RSV when possible & also sent you a message. I see these were listed in 2023, so hopefully you still have some available. Thank you & look forward to hearing back from you!
  7. You have friends??? Still??
  8. You might check the air inlet on the gas cap. Could be creating a vacuum if plugged.
  9. Morning! Got the bike out for an actual ride on Sunday. Only put about 150 miles on, but it sure felt nice. I'm having a pilot jet slightly plugged on one of my cylinders though, so some work will come my way I guess.
  10. Okay, so here I am again with yet another issue on my 98 RSTD. It's running great, but every once in a while it just quits, usually at higher speeds. Sometimes I can kick down a gear and it basically "jump" starts, other times it just quits and I have to pull off the road and try to restart, which it will do...eventually! So has anyone else had this issue? I'm thinking faulty kick stand sensor or even faulty ignition. Thoughts and thanks.

  12. Thank you! I have enjoyed it. Just time to try something else.

  14. I'm perplexed! I lost my highway lights, so checked fuses, ok. Took lights apart and while there is power to the slave (left) light, I can't get a power reading on the right, switch side. What confuses me is if there is no power at the switch, how come there's power to the slave? I'm thinking bad switch. Thoughts and thanks.

  15. Thank you. I haven't done that. Will try to find someone who can.
  16. Have the carbs been synched? It will cause a vibration under load if they’re unequal.
  17. Selling my beautiful 2009 RSV. Low mileage, lots of extras. Garmin Zumo GPS, highway pegs, aftermarket seat, backrest, trunk spoiler with light, second aftermarket brake below the truck, chrome crash protection bars for the bags, LED headlight bulb included but no yet installed. New battery this year. Asking $9,000.00 Canadian safetied. Would be interested in a trade for an 1800 Goldwing.
  18. I did somer major restoration work on one a friend of mine bought last summer. I should ask to see if it was him.
  19. I have noticed a vibration, almost an up and down feeling on hard acceleration on my 98 RSTD. Is this normal? Air pressure is good both on both suspension and tires. Front end is tight with no wobble. On smooth acceleration there's no vibration.
  20. Both replies are good options, Paul I have read about the bootable usb drive but have not thought about the second hard drive idea, I have a few old hard drives laying around.

  22. Good morning to all! Got called in to work over the weekend and the weather was a little bit unsettled, so just caged it. Grass cut Monday is inevitable.

  24. Wouldn't the ignition bypass relay shut down the entire bike electrical system? Or does it see the load when you hit the starter button? The last month was all about the safety interlocks like the clutch switch, stand switch, neutral switch...but yes I plan to go through them again. I wondered if it's something on the low side of the starter solenoid that I don't even get the click. I'll dive into it later this week
  25. If you want to play with Linux, I've found one of the easiest to install and has similarity to Windows is Linux Mint. If your hardware is old, there's a 'light' version of Linux Mint. You can also try before you commit to it by creating a bootable Linux Mint USB using a Windows app called 'Rufus'. Yet another option - buy a new hard drive and use the bootable Linux Mint USB to install it to the new hard drive. Keep your Windows drive hooked up in the computer, and you will be able to browse the old drive.
  26. You would hear the relay if it was the starter. Possibilities off the top of my head: do you have an ignition bypass installed? Check that relay if so. ignition switch, sidestand switch, cables/wire connection clean and tight at the starter relay and battery.
  27. After a month of methodically picking away at the clutch-neutral-kill switch interlock system I THOUGHT I had the problem resolved. Multiple short trips around town and no issues with restarting. Went to take a nice ride yesterday and after 30 min I stopped for gas and the bike wouldn't crank. Pushed the bike into a parking spot and walked next door for lunch. After an hour the bike restarted and I headed home. 30 min ride home and in the driveway the bike wouldn't crank. Wait an hour and it turns over just fine. As noted above, its a purely starter/electrical issue... bike turns on, fuel pump primes, but hit the starter and no-crank, not even a solenoid click. I haven't started back into the system yet and figured I'd post on here for moral support. I assume its a heat-soak issue either at the safety interlock relay that's right in front of the battery box, the starter solenoid, or the starter.
