  1. Today
  2. The shift shaft has a knuckle that leads to the straight shaft going back to the cross over shaft at the back of the setup. That knuckle will want to find it's home in the downward position,,, don't let it, it goes in the up position. Things won't line up or work properly unless you do, and you might even discover some markings there as well. Hope that all makes sense.
  3. I can’t get the link to copy so here’s a screenshot of where I found them.
  4. or should i just put in new barnett springs
  5. i've been threw the clutch n plates, have figured out that the clutch plates are ok, did the barnet clutch change a long time ago.... need heavier clutch springs. anyone know what the part number is for heavier barnett clutch springs? . . .0 .0 .0 .0 .0
  6. I got that ride in before the mess got here and then I put all the vehicles in the shop just in case.
  7. I'm suprised no one has responded to you. As for the alignment, most folks install these parts about last on the list. As per the illustrations in the manuals, this would be a good place to start. Remember to keep the arms 90 degrees from the direction of thrust. Well, as best you can. The final adjustment will have to do with how your foot engages the shift lever, where your foot is on the foot peg and so forth. I have an "83 myself. Welcome to the fold here.
  8. Yesterday
  9. Good evening to all. We are going to have rain for the next three days, so there is nothing about riding and/or projects that I can talk about.
  10. Some red and yellow on doppler. I agree you must wait. I've been riding for the last 4 days. Time to take the truck to and from work and run errands for we expect 3 days of rain as long as mother nature will give us 3 great days this coming weekend. Holiday is just around the corner.
  11. Think I’ll wait a while.
  12. Good idea I think I will go for a ride
  13. Last week
  14. Hello, All! I'm new here, but not new to riding or turning wrenches on bikes. For years, I owned and operated Jackhammer Cycles, LLC in Myrtle Beach SC. I know my way around motorcycles pretty good, so for me to ask a question like the one I'm about to ask is fairly unusual for me. But here goes: I have just finished reinstalling the shifter and foot rest on my 83. But I can't get the alignment correct, as there are NO marks on the shafts. Does anyone have an idea of how to set an initial alignment of these? I have been through the manuals and they are not any help at all. I bought my 83 2 years ago, and it came with a story, as it was a basket case. (Engine was removed to replace the stator, never replaced but a new stator was included.) But for $200, I was hard pressed to not buy it.
  15. Too many options and arguments for each. Park in or out of gear, kill switch vs kickstand vs ignition, which oil, which filter, which tires, blah blah blah.😁😁😁🤪🤪 Why you talking trailers, you’re bike broke?😛 I just need to find the time to ride more.
  16. Atta boy Ronnie, but this may turn into a discussion. recently I hear people talk about parking their bikes in gear and also when they haul them do they prefer in gear or neutral. I always park in gear except in my shop I park in neutral because sometimes I will roll the bike to get something from behind it and I always haul the bike in gear, if the straps are right it shouldn't matter but if a strap fails the bike is not rolling all over the trailer.
  17. Prayers for a quick recovery
  18. Well I have the bike home now. a lot lighter in the wallet though. talking to the mechanic they had to nearly disassemble the entire rear end to get to the last bolt on the fuel pump. Right after they gave me the quote (3 weeks ago) I suffered a stroke so had to have a friend ride it home. I won't be riding for a couple of months. I lost control of my left side. I can now walk and working on the arm so I will get there. I did tell the guy I blame them lol. That wasn't cheap, but really not bad for what they had to do.
  19. @videoarizona Glad I could help. People ask me how I have friends in so many states and Canada, it’s all because of VR. It took a few minutes to wrap my head around what was going on and had to go mess with my bike to see what lights lit at start. I always park in 1st and kill the bike with the kickstand and really don’t look at the dash at startup.

  21. I know on my 2nd Gen, I should always see that 'Green' N lit and this will ensure me that it is not in gear and is in 'Neutral'. But in the heat of the moment, sometimes it just don't mentally click right away. I've been in those situation several times as well. Glad you are able to call for advice via phone and it worked. I also agree that this forum is a very useful 'tool' just in case the unexpected happens. I am on an auto renew and should not worry about it unless Don gives me a call.
  22. This morning I did something I haven't done in years. Let the bike shut down in gear . Of course, I couldn't understand why the bike died in the first place. It just wound down from idle... Then nothing. Wouldn't start. Wouldn't even crank and the overheat light was on. Well, I thought it was overheated. This is Arizona! Checked coolant. Nope good. Checked oil. Nope good. What the heck? Gave up and went inside restaurant for breakfast... Thinking maybe when it's cooler it will start. I had no idea if the RSV had a shut off switch if overheated. Never heard of such a thing having had both gens of Ventures . After eating I came out and.... Nothing. Decided to call Ronnie. I know he has both gens so he would be a good bet to ask. I'm a pretty good mechanic and have rebuilt lots of cars, trucks and bikes, but for whatever reason, my brain wasn't thinking! He called me back right away. And took me through some procedures. Then he asked if the bike was in gear. I hesitated because I never shut bike off in gear unless I'm parked on a steep slope. But he was right. Dumb me! For whatever reason, I left the bike in gear with kickstand down. Sigh. So thank you Ronnie for calling me back and helping me through this. I'm glad I got to know you at a Maintenance Day in Ohio. And double glad you remembered me! This is what the $12/year is for... Friendship. So if your year is about up, don't hesitate, send in the $12! You never know when you might need help. 23. Happy Saturday night to all! As much as I want to ride today since the weather is so gorgeous, I didn't get the chance. The 'boss' has other plans, so I just simply have to comply.
  24. If you haven’t done so yet you should consider syncing the carbs
  25. Hello. I got them from the company website. https://denalielectronics.com/
  26. I really love the lights. I can see the side and much much farther in front of me. No cagers flashed their lights on me, so this tells me that they are now focused the right way. I really like so I am thinking of installing D2 Denali lights and may select the yellow lens for the SVTC in the near future.
  27. So after nearly a month I finally fixed the issues with my RSTD. Replaced and relocated the fuel filter after fighting to get it out of the original position, what a poorly thought out placement for something that requires changing annually or every couple of years. Piss poor design! As for the sputtering and loss of acceleration power, turns out the huge, ugly air box wasn't properly attached. The bike is running better now than it did last year when I first purchased it. On top of increased power no more decel backfiring beyond what might be expected. I'll fine tune the air/fuel mix to see if I can rid it completely. Also now have to reset idle. With the repairs it's reving a bit to high at idle. To those who reached out with thoughts and ideas, much thanks. God bless and have an awesome riding season!
