  1. Well..I can see why. You only bought enough for you!
  2. Don't forget the two most important tools in any tool kit: 1. Credit Card 2. Cell Phone
  3. I think most of the new member welcomes are trial members. It would be interesting to know when and if they become supporting members.
  4. You were posting the above while I was typing the last response. You told me what i need to know.
  5. I re-read your first post. In it you said your mechanic told you he thought it was a fried TCI. I assume your mechanic has gone through the checklist in the service manual that checks all other ignition components prior to determining that it is the TCI?
  6. Ignitech sends pre-programmed for the bike you specify, but they are programmable to your specs. If you get one, be sure to get the option to program with a laptop or notebook. Several members here have access to various programs depending on performance requirements. So far, I am using mine as-is, but plan to "play" with the programming later. I also have a 1983, which requires blocking off #2 carb vac port and using the #2 carb sync port.
  7. Ignitech website: ignitech.cz/en You want the TCIP4, version 88, I believe. I sent them an email, stating that I need for 83 Yamaha Venture, "plug and play". They will respond with what you need and cost. I paid $193, including shipping for mine. (mention venturerider.org for possible discount). You will need to replumb your vacuum source, but lots of info on doing that on this site.
  8. One meaning of thick is: "Made up of a large number of things or people close together.", so yep, we 1st gens are thick!....... and FAST!
  9. Wellllll...... did you buy the vacuum cleaner?
  10. A LOT of people think that premium fuel does not have Ethanol. Guess they don't bother to read the sticker on the pump!
  11. Found some NOS shims on eBay for $4.50 each, so problem solved.
  12. Just finished a valve clearance check on my '83 Venture and was wondering if anyone has the following shims in their "bucket of shims": 265 265 270 275 280 278 would be better than 280 I have several that I will trade. Let me know which ones you need. I will pay postage both ways. I'm doing a low budget restore of the '83 and would appreciate any help. I have the following shims available, or will have when job is complete: 255 260 268 282 285 285 285 290 290 PM me if you can help. Thanks
  13. I have a "naked" carb body that has a stuck idle mixture needle off an 83 venture. It's yours if you can use it. PM me your address.
  14. Good motivation for not smoking! I'm gonna start smoking and then quit, so I'll have some money for parts! I did get a chance to hook up the Ignitech TCI. The bike started right up, but I have several problems to solve before riding it. (Probably carb cleaning and new diaphragms.)
  15. Sorry 'bout that! My bad! I revised the link, it should be: ignitech.cz  You will need to click on "English" unless you want to view in Czech!
  16. Looks like a naked bike with a bikini on!! However, I would like to have one to ride naked, I mean er... I would like to have a naked one to ride.
  17. No, I didn't mean to imply that the sensor came with the unit, just that it is wired for the existing (or one of your choosing) MAP sensor and that since this is a 1983 Venture, I have to move the vacuum hose of the MAP sensor from the carb to the manifold. I will also be checking the original MAP sensor to be sure that it doesn't output more than 5 volts. And yes, I paid $193 which included shipping. I did mention venturerider.org, but I am not sure they gave a discount. I got a quote from them last September for $223. I bought it from ignitech.cz. I have been following the Ignitech posts for several years now. There are a lot of members using them and contributing their knowledge and experience with them. More later when I get to test it.
  18. I also have an '83 VR that I just purchased an Ignitec for. It came pre-programmed with plug and play adapter, MAP sensor is already wired (they call it IAPS), and serial and usb interfaces, user manual and program to customize any way I like. As soon as my back lets me, I will do some similar tests "out of the box". (I am aware that on the '83 you have to change the MAP sensor port). All of the above shipped to my door for $193! Ship time was less than 10 days. Hopefully this is all it takes to get the '83 running. I followed the manual that says test everything else and if its all good, then the TCI is bad!
  19. And you are in our prayers double back to you!
  20. Hilarious thread... in so many ways!
  21. Did you wake up from that dream? :rotf:
  22. Naa, probably just check the morgue!
  23. For what it's worth, I agree TOTALLY!
  24. Quite an adventure! Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to read the rest.
