  1. I deleted a thread today that was started by a good member where he was trying to part out a couple of bikes. Then another member added on that he had parts for sale also. The original poster stated that his parts were in the classifieds for a long time and that he never got a single inquiry. He finally got some interest when he posted them to the forum. That, as you all know by now, is not allowed.

I'm not trying to be difficult but there are valid reasons for not posting for sale items in the forums. If you DO insist on posting them in the forums, they should ONLY be posted in the links to Craigslist, Ebay, and Classifieds section. There are two reasons for posting them ONLY in that forum:

    1. Those posts get pruned by date so old items sold will be pruned at some point. Sold or not sold, they get pruned by date.

    2. That forum can only be posted in by supporting members. Why is that important? Because you, the members, voted long ago and then later, again, to only allow ads to be posted by supporting members. You didn't want total strangers joining up here just to spam our website or simply to try and sell stuff. You wanted to see ads only from people that you had some connection to. I agreed to that and actually, I think it's a good idea so that is how we do it.

The other reason that ads are NOT allowed in any other forums is that they end up being there for a long time, sometimes years. Look how many posts get made here. I and the moderators simply don't have enough hours available to comb through each and every post and delete the ones that are no longer valid. We shouldn't have to do that anyway. If we just prune all the forums by date, then a lot of good and helpful information will be gone forever.

Those are the reasons it is done the way it is.

So I would ask all of you to start using the classifieds. I'm not talking about just when you are trying to sell things but also when you are looking to buy things. Make it a habit. Think of it like a newspaper. You wouldn't open the newspaper and read the Sports Section if you were trying to find a good used truck for sale would you? It's the same here. If you are looking for parts, check the classifieds. Those who have things for sale will gain much more confidence in the classifieds if they knew that people were looking at them. I will say one other thing about the ads though. I've seen many times where somebody asked a question in the comments section of an ad but never got a response. If you have something there for sale, check it once in a while to see if there are any responses. If you are a buyer and want a quick answer, the seller's username is always listed. Click on it and send them a PM to be sure.

It seems that I have to repeat this stuff every year or two but that's OK. I just want to remind everybody why some things are the way that they are and also give our newer members a little heads up.

    Thanks

What a Dick... UH.....I mean Don, well said let's keep the forums clean.

  2. Patsy,

We thank you for sharing Dan with us for all these years. He was loved by all who were lucky enough to have met him and shared some stories around the fire.

We grieve with you and for you, for Dan we celebrate his lust for life. I can see him now doing a wheelie through those pearly gates.

  3. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed.

I'm glad we got to spend some time with you around the campfire at the West Virginia VR rally.

As was said already, Don, please post the funeral info if you get it.

  5. Temps were in the mid 50's on Saturday so Eileen and I finally got to take the Slingshot out for the first time. Still haven't had the RSV out this year but will soon. Here is a picture from Saturday. I've added the top, taller windshield, trailer hitch, some bar pads to the side bars. Sorry that my ugly mug is in the picture but Eileen insisted on taking it.

Hey Raggy,,, went State land target practicing recently and, in the process,, I got a whole new idea for a Northern Michigan ride called an Ice Cream Shoot... Numerous steel targets (old car rims so they "gong" when hit!!) are placed in strategic state/federal land locations in the Baldwin area.. The group plays follow the leader to each location, range rules will be 5 shots per stop, per target = for safety sake, magazines are left empty and each round is loaded singularly into the breach as the shooter steps up to shoot = hand guns only and caliber dont matter.. 50 cents into "kitty" for each miss hit. End of ride at Jones Ice Cream where Kitty is split between participants....

  7. I was concerned about the size change. The vertical pipe in the house is already a 4". It is the clay line under the floor that is 6 inch. I am adding about 10 feet to the existing 4" line to reach the end of the existing 6" line. So I am not reducing size anywhere, the flow will be from the 4" into the 6 inch, just like it has been for the last 100 years. (House was built in 1800s) The only difference is that the transition from 4 to 6 will now be in a horizontal run instead of at the inlet of the elbow that made the transition from vertical to horizontal. I am not putting in a repair section that will be a 6" to 4" back to 6" section. Think it will still be an issue? I can still do 6 inch for all underground and make the transition just above the floor like it was before, just a lot more work. Most houses have 4" all the way to the street. 4" will have a higher velocity to help keep it clean and move stuff along.

I called a couple of local relining companies and they were all well over $10K closer to $20K. That just aint in the budget.

I have managed to get a clean cut of the end of the 6" clay (only took 3 tries) and the 4" cast iron (got it on the first try), I was worried about that part.

Look closely at the clay pipe where you cut it, if the pipe wall is thinned from erosion keep going till you find good pipe....

I'd stick with the original layout keeping it 6" below grade and make the transition to 4" on the verticle. You may want to put a cleanout Tee somewhere in the horizontal repair run.

How far away is the Tee to the main line to the sewer? Often that is where their is a major failure that sucks all the dirt down & into the sewer. Tap the concrete in that area listening for a change in pitch while tapping, if it sounds hollow you have another repair ahead of you.

  8. Putting a 4" repair section into a 6" line is asking for problems, the lip created will probably catch debris and plug it up. When they sleeve a pipe they use a backhoeto push the sleeve in, any other way will end up causing more damage. Water jetting is expensive but does a nice job of cleaning out the pipes, then they can be relined, there are several companies that can do that.

  9. You should be OK then. One word of warning. Unless they have changed it, they used to not send enough PVC tubing that you add to the top of the springs. The springs are shorter than stock and you use the PVC pipe for spacers. For some reason, they didn't send enough when I did mine and Rick Butler ran into the same issue. We contacted them to let them know but I can't say if they ever changed it or not. It's no big deal, I had plenty of it laying around. Don't remember what size it was but it it was 3/4" or 1" I think.....regular schedule 40 PVC pipe.
When I did my forks 2 years ago Sonic was still sending the springs with not enough spacer, I used thick wall PVC well pipe. I didnt trust the standard thin wall PVC you find at the big box stores.

Thanks @RickButler for your suggestions and guidance when I undertook my fork rebuild, I am totally happy with the results. [emoji106]

  10. Ok if your not into getting stranded and having to fix on road. There was a old article on buying a motorcycle for under 1.000 bucks riding a 1000 miles. You can replace tires, battery, and brake pads. every thing else except gaskets has to stay true from bike. You can add sundry parts to your hearts content. We would have to figure where to stop and start stay at a motel after 500 miles. at that time figure all the break downs you went through one with the most wins a gag prize. one with the least gets a ribbing {cheater} maybe a t that says that. lol The bike just has to be from the 90s or older.

I will have to sell my van so I can join in. So need time to do that. WHO WANTS TO BE STRANDED?????? What ya thunk is this stupid. I cant help it cabin fever.:255:

I know where there's a mid 80's Yamaha 650 offered to me free for the taking, owner says it runs, no battery, keys or fork seals.

  11. I am running the Sonic 1.2 springs and they were a great choice. I also went to 15 weight fork oil at the same time. The ride is a little bit stiffer but not harsh and the bike handles the twisties much better now, no more feeling of understeering and tracks through the curves exactly where I want it to go.
