  1. That is my thought as well. I would hate to blow up my radio testing this out!
  2. There is some good info about the cb connector at this web site in the Ham radio install section. http://www.delusional-mechanic.com/. I'm also looking to figure out how (what signal & which pin) does the CB cut the radio out when you use it. If you figure this out, please post it. Mike
  3. My '86 venture was missing the CB when I bought it and now I'm integrating a FRS/GMRS radio for an easy (cheap) bike to bike solution. I figured out how to integrate the unit with the bike intercom using the CB jack on the amplifier and the built in PTT switches. What I need to figure out is how to cut the radio out automatically when using the FRS (like the CB does). On this web site (http://www.delusional-mechanic.com/) he identified that the center pin has 8V on it when the vox has cut out the radio. My question is: Is the 8v a result of the mechanism that cut the radio out or is it the signal that is cutting it out?? In other words If I send 8V on this pin to the radio, will it cut it out the radio, blow it up or have no affect?? Thanks Mike
  4. I had the same coolant issue with my '86. Here is a link to the notes from my issue. Changing the gaskets did solve my problem. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22134 Good luck!! Mike
  5. I think I'll order up a set of gaskets for the center chamber and pull & clean the carbs and check the valves. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Thanks for you help! When I get this done I'll let you know how it turned out. MIke,
  6. I do not see any signs of coolant in the oil, but I did not check the coolant lately to see if there is oil in it. I did not see any green tint in the liquid in the air box either however, a quick touch to my tounge confirmed that the liquid does contain coolant. Mike
  7. Thanks for the insight and the pics! So if I understand correctly: The coolant is probabally comming from the chamber between the "V" and my bike does not run well due to the coolant vapor in the air that the carbs suck back into the cylinders ??? It looks as if you need to pull the carb bank to work on this chamber, is that correct? Thanks again for all of you help! Mike
  8. I need some help figuring out what is wrong with my bike before I decide to dig deep into it. I have an '86 venture that has 74 K miles and has an unknown history for most of those miles. Here are some recent repairs: new plugs 1/2 yr ago, new cables & caps this year, new diaphragms last year, carbs synced last fall. My scoot has been underpowered for some time and is getting worse. Tonight I was out looking trying to rule some obvious things out. One thing that is new and significant is that I found a small amount of emulsified oil and what appears to be radiator fluid in the air box (see picture). It seems that it is coming from the engine breather tube that is feed back in to the air box. After the engine is warm you can see a steady stream of smoke/vapor coming out of this tube in the air box. I also do not know what that chamber does that is mounted between the "V", it appears to have both cooling and the engine breather tube. I can't seem to find good documentation on this thing . . . So . . . Do I have a blown head gasket, needs a valve job, or could this be caused by something else?? This site is awesome and very friendly! Thanks for your help! Mike
  9. I pulled out the diaphrams and used the sync screws to adjust all of the butterflies so they were almost closed. When I started the bike they were close enough to sync. I would be a good idea to check the diaphrams anyway. Mike
  10. Thanks for the feedback. I looked on the net for Venom X tires and am mainly finding just Venom tires, even the Avon website does not seem to list a VenomX. Is the AM41 Venom the same tire as the AM41 VenomX? Mike.
  11. Last year I put an Elite III on the rear onf my '86 and I now need to replace my front tire. It seems that the E3's for the front are not being made yet and I can't seem to find the K491 avaiable, they are all backordered. Dunlop said that more E2's won't be ready until mid July. Has anyone tried using an E3 on the back and the Avon Venom AM41 on the front? Are there any handling or vibrations from mixing these tires? Thanks Mike
