The second generation is 1999 thru 2013. First gen is 1983 to 1993. The MK1 is 83 to 85 and MK2 is 86 to 93.

One of the issues with the 1st gen speedometer is sometimes the odometer would seize up and the speedometer would fail as a result! Then cure is replacement. If you find your cable broken or the end stripped out that may be the cause... -

I went the Hannigan route and only regret not getting the floor boards. Installed the Carbon One's auxiliary gas tank, had the rake installed. May do reverse next year...
