  1. changing to syn. it is not going to cause a leak dont buy in to that old line! it will however offer you the best oil you can put in your engine. it will be a lot smoother shifting .a more silent runner. the best friction fighter. the best in high temps. my 86 vr has 134.000 miles on it dosnt burn or use a drop of oil it s a few bucks more and well worth it . have you priced any engine or trans. parts lately . all hail synthetc.
  2. sounds like an air leak . yep ! if you cant find one you still might have to check carb. pull manifold off and eye ball it good.
  3. still sounds like no fuel. if it was no spark the cyl. would not fire at all . if you are getting fuel to carb and is not fireing you have a fuel jet pluged . to find out if you are getting fuel to carb open drain screw to dead cyl . turn key to run and kill switch to run. you should have fuelpumping out out drain hose and hear the fuel pump pulsing. if nothing start engine and watch for flow. its good to hook a clear fuel line to drain hose and to a container to keep fuel off bike. if you take carbs off use a small wire to clean all jet holes with compresed air and carb body also . check fuel output on feed hose to that carb. check needle float assy. make shure not stuck. check inlet on carb (where feed hose goes. dont give up . let me know what happens.
  4. if you are spraying in to cylnder and it runs while you do that means it has spark . that says your not getting fuel . check drain screw on carb to see if it has fuel . if not you most likley have a stuck float on that carb . chances are good if others are running that is the first place to start.even if you cleaned carbs.
  5. this is not a hard job and wont take long. there are 2 bearings and two seals it would be worth it to replace the seals also since they must be removed anyway. suspend wheel on blocks and remove seal then spedo drive retainer and clutch (small flat drive with 2 tabs on it) flip wheel over and pop seal .you will need a long punch with a thin shaft and a flat tip to catch edge of brng tap them out from inside out move punch from one side of bearing to the other to drive out evenly so it dosnt bind.a spacer will fall out when brng does. flip over and repeat .make shure holes are clean and smooth clean spacer . lightly oil walls of holl where brngs slide in .also out side of bearing. find a large socket that will fit in side wheel and the out side of brng race it must not contact inner race or brng or it will be damaged.install one side and spacer lightly grease inside of of spacer. place spacer inside wheel and line it up with brng hole .lightly lube hole wall and brng and tap it in . be shure to keep bearings level when starting them and make sure to line up spacer before seating last brng .install spedo drive and retainer and seals . i hope this helps and gets you on the road . steve
