Eck sent me this video. It's something called Smoke Hole Road and just one of many fantastic rides that could be available at the rally in West Virgin next year. I love it.

08 Venture Starting problem
Freebird replied to etronicharsha's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It could be a number of things but the very first thing I would check would be the battery connections. Take them apart and clean them really well and then try again. -
Hey you trouble maker. BOTH horns worked when you got it. Power comes from a wire tired directly to the battery. It goes from the battery to one side of a normally open contact on the relay. The other side of the contact feeds the positive of both horns. Both horns have a ground wired that connects to a ground screw....I THINK near the radio cage. Can't remember for sure where the grounds are connected. Original wire from horn button triggers the relay.

Bass Pro and Cabela's are very close when you go to boths flagship stores. I've been to both that were nothing special too. Just depends on the location.

I've started a new thread in the Rally and Meets section of the forum for discussion of the 2016 International Rally. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?108-VentureRider-International-Rally

So, what are the 10 heaviest bikes on sale right now?
Freebird replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
They also missed the Triumph Rocket III Touring. 395 kg wet weight. -
Quite a few of them around here. Nice stores but don't worry, after the novelty wears off, they won't be near as busy.

Run Off VOTING for 2016 International Rally Location
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
Folks, it's a LONG time until the rally. I recommend that you all wait for a few days. We are working on group discounts and etc. May still be too high for some of you and it that's the case, then of course stay where you wish. But let's wait and see what they come up with. It's always fun when as many as possible are at the same place. -
Over the next few days, I will be deleting the other threads regarding the 2016 International Rally and start a new one with all the information that we have at this time. Eck posted some excellent information regarding various lodging and etc. and I will save that and move it to the new thread. As soon as Chuck gets some final information, we will be deciding upon a host location. There are a couple of choices but he has to get some more information regarding camping facilities and etc. Some of the room prices will be contingent upon how many people we estimate will attend. For that reason, I will be starting a poll asking you to give us your best guess if you will attend, what kind of lodging you will be looking for, etc. The choices will be hotel, cabin, or camping. I will include what pricing I have at the time but hopefully we will get some discounts once we know how many rooms and etc. we need. So be watching for a new poll over the next couple of days and a consolidation of the current threads. I think that this will be a great rally. I know that it is too far for some but those who can make it will be rewarded with some fantastic roads and beautiful country. As discussed over the past weeks, this rally will likely be toned down a bit in regards to prizes and etc. There will likely be no grand prize but maybe some smaller things like possibly a GoPro, GPS, stuff like that. If nothing else, we can have one heck of a 50/50 drawing.

LOL...I agree with most of what has been said but still...I admire the ingenuity that went into it. Would I want one? No. Still pretty cool to see what people can create though.

antenna question
Freebird replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It's difficult to reply to your post because I have no idea what year model your bike is. If it is a '99 or later, you SHOULD care because if they CB antenna is mounted to the side that goes to the AM/FM and vice versa, you may find that it will or already has damaged the CB. On the '99 and later models, every bike I have ever seen (and that is a LOT of them) the CB antenna should be on the left side. If you look at the cable coming out of the mount on the left side of the bike, you will be able to follow it into the black box under the tour pack. The CB is inside that black box. If your regular AM/FM antenna is on that side instead of the CB antenna, you are risking destroying a very expensive CB. Now if you simply don't care, then so be it. It's your bike and your money. If you DO decide that you care though, it's a simply matter of screwing the masts off an swapping places with them. Takes about 5 minutes. -
Wasn't trying to pick on you but this was twice in two days that somebody has posted a classified ad here. Decided to post instead of just deleting it so that others would be reminded.

Again, classifieds are not allowed in the forums. Please post your for sale items in the classified ads.

Anyone around Charlotte want to go look at a bike for me?
Freebird replied to etcswjoe's topic in Watering Hole
Sorry, I don't know how I hit the "close thread" button. Didn't mean to. I misunderstood, thought you were looking at another Harley. My bad. -

Freebird replied to etcswjoe's topic in Watering Hole
It surprises me a bit that you are looking at another one. I thought you didn't like the last one you had? -
Yes, Slowrollwv has volunteered to be the point person. He has told where it would be based and what facilities are available there. I feel that both volunteers have done an admirable job in providing the basic info. We should not expect detailed schedules and planned events at this time. That takes a good bit of time to put together and is typically not done until the location is decided upon.

1988 venture battery light on
Freebird replied to Dave_Anderson's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The warning light is just indicating low electrolyte level, NOT voltage. What kind of battery is in it? Does it have the probe inserted? -
Agreed. If you just like playing with electronics, there is certainly nothing wrong with that. The very simple diode and resistor method works great also though. The light bar cost about 17.00 back when I was doing them and the resistor and a couple of diodes was another 2 or 3 bucks so it was about $20.00 total. I don't know how long it would have lasted that way. Mine had been going for over 10 years when I sold the bike.

I also think that it depends upon what kind of riding you want to do on it. One up, two up, mostly highway or back roads. There are some good choices but first you have to decide how it will be used.

Please cast your vote when ready. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?109666-Run-Off-VOTING-for-2016-International-Rally-Location

If you were the volunteer for either of the final two selections, Viroqua, WI or Davis, WV, please take a few minutes to pitch the case for your location so that our members can better make their selection. We need proposed dates for the rally, local information and attractions, hotels, campgrounds, etc. Plus any details of what you will try to plan. Thanks to all of you who voted in the first poll. If you location didn't win, maybe you will submit it again next time or even arrange a regional rally there for a time that doesn't conflict with the International Rally. That brings up another point. For those of you who have volunteered to host the International, PLEASE do not propose a date that directly conflicts with our other annual rallies. That includes Freebird's Maintenance Day, MarCarl's gathering, Big Tom's annual NY meet or the PIP. Those are typically always pretty much on the same dates each year. So, all of that being said, please vote when you are ready. You may want to wait until our volunteers post their information however. This poll will remain open for approximately 1 week.
