  1. Yes, Slowrollwv has volunteered to be the point person. He has told where it would be based and what facilities are available there. I feel that both volunteers have done an admirable job in providing the basic info. We should not expect detailed schedules and planned events at this time. That takes a good bit of time to put together and is typically not done until the location is decided upon.
  2. Just put @ right before their username. @etcswjoe
  3. The warning light is just indicating low electrolyte level, NOT voltage. What kind of battery is in it? Does it have the probe inserted?
  4. Agreed. If you just like playing with electronics, there is certainly nothing wrong with that. The very simple diode and resistor method works great also though. The light bar cost about 17.00 back when I was doing them and the resistor and a couple of diodes was another 2 or 3 bucks so it was about $20.00 total. I don't know how long it would have lasted that way. Mine had been going for over 10 years when I sold the bike.
  5. I also think that it depends upon what kind of riding you want to do on it. One up, two up, mostly highway or back roads. There are some good choices but first you have to decide how it will be used.
  6. There can be more than one way to do things right. Simple is often better and more reliable. That is WAY overkill in my opinion. Of course you are just as free to have your own opinion.
  7. Would be very simple to do with a diode and a resistor. Many of us have done it with the aftermarket LED lightbars on the second gens.
  8. Please cast your vote when ready. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?109666-Run-Off-VOTING-for-2016-International-Rally-Location
  9. If you were the volunteer for either of the final two selections, Viroqua, WI or Davis, WV, please take a few minutes to pitch the case for your location so that our members can better make their selection. We need proposed dates for the rally, local information and attractions, hotels, campgrounds, etc. Plus any details of what you will try to plan. Thanks to all of you who voted in the first poll. If you location didn't win, maybe you will submit it again next time or even arrange a regional rally there for a time that doesn't conflict with the International Rally. That brings up another point. For those of you who have volunteered to host the International, PLEASE do not propose a date that directly conflicts with our other annual rallies. That includes Freebird's Maintenance Day, MarCarl's gathering, Big Tom's annual NY meet or the PIP. Those are typically always pretty much on the same dates each year. So, all of that being said, please vote when you are ready. You may want to wait until our volunteers post their information however. This poll will remain open for approximately 1 week.
  10. OK folks, the votes are in. I will soon start another poll that will last 7 days. I will ask those who volunteered West Virginia and Wisconsin to add as much detail as possible to the new poll to help people better decide. Possible dates, area attractions, hotels, campgrounds, etc.
  11. Jakester, it dawned on me that these responses may have come across as personal attacks. That was NOT my intention when I replied. I know that you were just mentioning something that you were told and the thoughts you had about it. There is nothing wrong with that. I was not attacking you personally, simply pointing out the other side of the equation that everybody needs to think about. Sorry if it came across wrong.
  12. I'm not going to try to tell you how you feel. Only you know that. I can tell you that the vast majority of us here could care less about what bike you ride. I founded this site and am riding a Harley Road Glide at this time. Eck is a long time moderator and rides a Wing. MarCarl is a long time moderator and rides a Spyder. This site is still dedicated to the Venture and likely always will be but we have MANY long time members riding other models and brands. At last count, we had well over 100 Wing riders I think. Sorry you feel slighted and I can't tell you why but it's not the way the majority of us feel. I don't care if you are riding a Vespa.
  13. Initial voting is open for two more days folks. After that, the top two will be listed again and there will be a run-off lasting for 7 days.
  14. That is a terrible idea. If you choose to pull a trailer, as I do, then you are responsible for the safety of those around you also. OK...so maybe if your trailer comes off it could take you down. That is a scenario that you should be willing to accept if you pull a trailer. I accept that responsibility. What I could not accept would be MY trailer coming off and causing the injury or death of a fellow rider or a mini van with a family and young kids inside because I was more concerned about my safety than those around me. If you aren't going to hook up the chains and pull that trailer as safely as possible, then you should not pull it.
  15. I think that exceptional member of whatever it is called is sufficent. I got no request though.
  16. Yes, if it has the proper cables, it does integrate into the bikes control pod. Once it is hooked up and plugged in, it will show up on the pod. LOL...I see that Kirby beat me with the answer. Not only did he beat me but his was better too.
  17. Just a note. In accordance with your requests, there will likely be another poll to choose between the top two vote getters. The exception, not likely to happen, would be if one location wins by more than the total votes submitted for the locations other than the top two.
  18. Thank you for what you do. I'm going to be completely honest here. There are some arrogant jerks wearing those badges and I despise them. It is my opinion that our good law enforcement personnel are some of the most underpaid people in society. They deserve much more than we pay them and our total respect and gratitude. There are also a few that think strapping on that badge and gun make them some type of God. They are arrogant and should not be allowed to continue in their chosen profession. Those are the most OVERPAID people in our society. There are some cowards and some bullies hiding behind those badges and I sincerely hope that you good officers do what you can to get them out of those uniforms so that they don't bring undue criticism to the majority of you who are working hard to do the right things. It is my opinion though that those bad apples are the exception and not the rule. I have run into a couple of them during my lifetime and it is always my hope that they get weeded out by those of you who are so deserving of our respect. That being said, those of you that I have met through this club seem to fall into that group that deserves our respect. I want to thank you for all that you do to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. If I'm ever in a situation where I see that you need my assistance, you will get it. I hope that all our fine VentureRider members will join me in thanking you for your service. In light of all that is happening in our great nation at this time, I feel that you need to be told how much you are appreciated.
  19. Have you shot it yet? I once owned a BDL Classic in 30/06. For whatever reason, that rifle kicked like a mule. I've owned several 30/06 rifles but that one particular model was brutal. Never figured out exactly why unless it had something to do with the more straight back stock. Not as much drop as others that I had owned.
  20. I'm sure that is not an original paint job. The only white was 1988 and it was a two town white and cream color. Maybe I just can't see the cream color in those pictures. If it is indeed the '88 white and cream, it is possible that the bodywork has been replace with that from an '88.
  21. I haven't hunted in quite a few years but I used to hunt a lot and owned a LOT of guns. Never was a semi auto fan. Mostly had bolts and lever actions. Most of my hunting was done in the heavy brush of NE Texas or in Northern Alabama for a few years when I lived there. I've owned bolt actions in .243, .270, .308 and 30-06 and levers in 30/30, .44 and .444 and .308 (Browning BLR in the .308). Several others also but they were just buy, sell and trades. My favorite deer rifle that I ever owned or shot was my Ruger M77 International in .308. I had a Leopold 2.5 x 5 compact scope on it. It had an 18 1/2" barrel so was easy to maneuver in the brush and the low power scope was more than I ever needed in the brush where the vast majority of shots were under 75 yds. I would LOVE to have it back but went through a divorce about 25 years ago and the ex wife sold it out from under me to help pay for her lawyer and I just never replaced it. I don't have a picture of my actual gun but this one is just like it except maybe for the scope. If I were to ever start deer hunting again, there is no doubt that I would find another one.
  22. From all that I've seen and read, Handy makes a good lift. If I had an extra 700.00 laying around, I would own that one. Though I think I would prefer just air over hydraulics for my use. I would still buy it though.
  23. Anybody who is running a Metzler at anything under the maximum sidewall pressure is ignoring MANY posts here made on the subject. They are notorious for losing chunks of rubber and running them at anything less than max is just asking for trouble. I will personally never put one on my bikes but if I did, I would check them on a regular basis to ensure that they are at the proper maximum air pressure. Ignore this advice at your own risk but I hope you don't. We hate hearing about people getting hurt here.
  24. If I were going to change them again in 30,000 miles, I wouldn't spend the money for Iridiums. I put Iridiums in my '99 and they were fine but they do nothing other than last longer.
  25. There was discussion for several weeks asking for suggestions and volunteers. The reason that there is not a west coast location listed is because nobody stepped up to the plate. There was plenty of time to do so.
