  1. Well, since the accident I’ve been unable to work. After over 2 weeks I’m still having to sleep upright in my easy chair.

Anyways, with all this time just sitting I’ve finally got around to polishing all those “brushed” looking pieces on the bike. So far it’s coming out pretty good IMHO.

The reason I say "Old school" is I believe the more cylinders you have the more torque the engine will provide.  Newer engines are going with less cylinders but providing more HP.  This is true in automobiles as well as bikes.

I also like a smoother engine that the 4-cylinder engines provides.

Problem is it’s not always true. For example, the current 6 cylinder Goldwing has 126HP and 125 ft lb of torque. The SVTC v-twin has 90HP and 126 ft lb of torque..  Given that I have the Ivans Flash tune on my ECM, I’m currently running about 137 ft lb of torque.

Yes, a multi cylinder bike will be smoother but has nothing to do with adding more torque. Torque is what gets the bike moving.  Hence it’s more about the gearing than the cylinders.

I firmly believe if Yamaha had put fuel injection, 6 speed transmission and a CD player on the Venture it would still be selling today.

    Steve

Steve, you’re not referring to the current generation of Star Venture are you? I ask because it does have EFI as well as 6 speed. And regarding the CD player, it has TWO USB inputs capable of handling 32GB USB each. It’s what I use for my music 99% of the time. As long as the properties of the music are filled in properly ie.. TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM and GENRE, the infotainment can search and play it accordingly. It can even play it by VOX command.  I tap a button and say “PLAY, Eric Clapton, Layla” and it does it.  Or, “Play, Artist, Ted Nugent” and it plays all his songs I have.

  4. Have used the plastifix long ago and it seemed to work fine. It is a lot lighter than going with fiberglass (which does work) but is also heavier. I think adding more weight (depending on how big an area your talking about) can be counterproductive in the long run IMHO.  But then again, I’m no “expert”. Just sharing my own results.

    Hello Venturers.

Monday, I took my trike to Hannigan's in Murray KY to have a reverse put on it.  I picked it up yesterday afternoon and was really happy with the results of the work they did.

They took the trike cover off, modified the trailer hitch, installed a flywheel on the driveshaft and added a starter to "propel" the trike backwards. I mean it doesn't slowly roll backwards; it PROPELS it backwards. (Not dangerously fast).  Thankfully it has a momentary switch that activates the starter, and a single tap makes it start rolling and several times that has been enough to take care of the issues of needing room to go forward.

The final cost was right at $1700 but I am very satisfied with the quality job they did.

    Steve

My bike already came with forward & reverse parking assist. 😁

  6. Hey Guys, asking for prayers for both my body and financial wherewithal.

Last Thursday was in my work van headed to a job up in the mountains. Had a vehicle in front of me break real hard and signal rather late. I was able to stop about 6ft back without slamming my brakes on and noticed a sticker on the back that said “Please be patient. STUDENT DRIVER”.  I chuckled to myself and said out loud, “Well first thing you need is to learn how to signal sooner.”

There was a lot of oncoming traffic (2 lane rd) so they were waiting for an opening.  About 20 seconds after I’d stopped everything EXPLODED! I had severe chest pains and I know I must’ve been unconscious a couple times because it seemed like EMS was there immediately. Then they were using jaws of life to pry open the door and something else to cut the hinges off and I heard the paramedic saying “Stay with me man! Stay with me!”

I know God had his hand on me because it could’ve been MUCH worse. Hwy Patrol came into my ER room and was surprised at my condition given the vehicle condition.  I have some broken ribs on my left, whiplash, some deep bruising, pain in my middle back and my right leg has “numbness” that comes and goes. The MRI also shows a 4mm herniation on my aorta.

I was hit by an earlier model Chevy Suburban (a tank) doing 60+ in a 45mph. Hwy Patrol gave me the info. There were NO skid marks prior to the impact meaning she (yes she) was distracted and probably on the phone!  The officer cited her distracted driving, excessive speed and failing to stop.  THANK GOD I wasn’t on the bike or I wouldn’t be here!

I need prayer for healing, and prayers for finances. I’m sole breadwinner (business owner) and can’t work. They say 4-6 weeks for ribs. Have parts in my garage for clients jobs and I can’t do the work. Have scheduled monthly contracts with people that I can’t fulfill and concerned they may seek another service provider.  Yes, I’ve got a great Pi attorney.  Funny that it’s the same people leading the Camp Lejune lawsuit. 😁

Throwing up some pics of my wrecked vehicle. Thanks in advance for all your prayers🙏

  7. I’ve had high end Shoei and lower end Bell helmets and have to say that my current 3/4 is the most comfortable I’ve ever had.

it’s a Scorpion EXO 220. The air vents on the top you can actually feel the air flowing across the top of your scalp. Great for hot weather. Has a hidden drop down sun visor just like on fight pilot helmets.  The lining is removable for washing too.  And best part is the helmet comes in at about $150.

It also comes with a full face clear shield that attaches if you want additional “bug” protection.

These are my favs, and with the oval rather than round shape, it will take the pressure off your forhead.

1/2 helmet is the same as NO helmet because it doesn’t protect the back of the skull which is where the vast majority of disabling or deadly impacts occur.

Would have taken pictures but not much in the fall coloring like your area. Also traffic was pretty busy so wasn't much chance to safely take any.

My pictures were taken by the wife on the back and using my helmet cam.

Went for150klm ride last Sunday to get coffee and visit former co-worker. Stopped on reserve(native) for $1.44can gas fill($1.65can at home) then went shopping looking for a strap clamp(couldn't find except 100klm away) to make wooden picture frames for Christmas presents.

OK, but where are the pictures from the ride?

    Remember… no pics, it didn’t happen! 😜

Hopefully I'll get to put some miles on it today or tomorrow and see how it feels, the guy at the bike shop wants to know how many miles I get out of it I hope he ant in no hurry :scratchchin:

Watches the video, but this seems to be trike related. Is this applicable when it’s not a trike?

I have a 2018 SVTC and my tire pressure light stays on even though my tires are aired up to 41 psi. The infotainment system shows the tires to be at F35 and R37. Obviously the infotainment system is wrong, so I would like to just completely deactivate the TPMS. Can someone tell me a step by step on how to do this.

    Thanks in advance

Unfortunately @Red Rocket the Yamaha tool is needed. Once you get the batteries replaced, they will inflate the tire to proper pressure and re-calibrate the TPMS.

It is possible, maybe probable, that Eileen and I will embark on our last motorcycle ride today.  I bought this bike about 2 years ago with around 8500 miles on it.   It is a 2008 Harley Ultra Classic.  After two years, it only has a little over 10,000 miles on it.   This is primarily due to the fact that Eileen has not been doing well for at least that long and we haven't been about to take the trips like we used to.  The bike has been ridden one time this year, maybe 3 months ago for about 40 miles.  So today, Eileen and I are going to try a relatively short trip.  It will be about a 4 hour trip one way and then back on Monday.  I didn't want to do it because I'm not at all sure that her back will be able to take it but she insists that she wants to give it a try.  After his weekend, I will make the decision to either keep the bike, if she does ok, or finally admit that our riding days are over.  We will get back late Monday and then I'll have to really give it some thought.  Spent the day yesterday getting the bike ready.  Tire pressure, oil, etc.  Battery was toast so I put a new battery on it.  WOW....$155.00 for a new battery.  Anyway, I have mixed feelings about even attempting this trip but hopefully it will go well.  If not, somebody will end up with a very nice 2008 Ultra Classic with less than 11000 miles on it.

Wow Don, sorry to hear that. I truly hope it goes well for both you & Eileen. If it doesn’t, it’s just the turning of a page. Another chapter in your adventure of life together which I’m sure will hold many more wonderful times for you both no matter what form they take.

May God surround and uphold you both on this trip and may it truly be blessed!

  14. Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I made it home safely.

Wish I could’ve stayed longer but it was still nice seeing many of you again as well as some new people. Thanks for letting me share your campfire and I enjoyed the spirited conversation.  Maybe I can try to plan spending more time next year.

Enjoy your time and ride safe.

  15. Sorry guys, looks like I can’t come up for the day as I’d hoped. Daughter needs “daddy’s” help and of course I’ll be there.

Bummer, was looking forward to meeting you all. 😢

Thanks for the tip. I remember there were a bunch of pieces that fell out when I took it off last time and I screwed up when I put the left part on . Should go better this time.

Also Don, @hunter 1500 make sure you disconnect the rear brake caliper from the mounting bracket and then zip tie that bracket in place to hold it, but leave it loose enough to move when putting the shaft back through. That was another trick I learned.

Does anyone have instructions for the Eluder rear wheel removal. I know I found them here a couple of years ago.

It’s not difficult at all. I will give you a “Tip Trick”. I learned a while back that removal and especially re-install is easier if you zip tie the drive hub to the wheel. Run them through each of the five spikes. If keeps it from coming apart particularly when trying to re-install it, otherwise it’s like trying to stuff and octopus in a coke bottle!

@hunter 1500 my number is posted in my info. Give me a call if you need to.

  18. Ok folks, I’ll be coming up and joining you Wednesday.  I know that most people will be arriving Wednesday so you probably aren’t going for a group ride, but It’ll be nice just to visit.  Is there anything I should bring to contribute food wise?  Just let me know.
