  6. @Daveand Barbie, @BigLenny, - and everyone else who replied.... I truly thank you for such an exceptional description of some of the advantages & disadvantages on the FJR. Just what I was looking for. I have looked at the BMW K1200 or K1600 and the Honda ST1300 also. Just not certain as to what I want to do.. Last year I spoke of selling my wing for an FJR and I have the bug again to go for a lighter bike. Man I hate making decisions..ha.. Enjoyed the video too. A lot of opinions discussed in detail! @BlueSky, thanks for posting it.
  7. Been looking at the FJR1300's , 2008 or newer models .. For those of you who have owned / rode one, which year model would you shoot for if you were contemplating on switching to one. I'm looking for standard cruise control, electric adjustable windshield, adjustable seat, nice sound system, but not so sure about an automatic shifting bike. Never had one and not sure I would want one, but it is a possibility if someone who knows about them spoke up and could convince me that the automatic shifting works fine under loads and downshifts when needed.. Heated seat & grips are not a nessessity item but would be nice I guess. I'm thinking of selling my wing and purchasing an FJR if the price is right and needed/ wanted options are there. Right now though, I don't think I could ever find a bike that is (or could be) set up like I have my wing set up for me. I would get on my wing right now and take off without ever thinking of a breakdown. That is how much I trust my wing. I know my wing, I know how to fix just about anything that could go wrong and carry all the necessary relays, tools bulbs etc and such for that just in case moment. If I went with an FJR, then I would have a large learning curve to go through again. One member here from TX has spoken very highly of the ZFJR and gave me his straight forward opinion of them and he is one man who's opinion I truly trust. I am looking for other opinions from those who have had / owned the FJR and could tell me what to look out for
  8. My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and my wife kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby I asked my wife, ‘Do you know him?’ ‘Yes,’ she sighed, ‘He’s my old boyfriend. I understand he took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn’t been sober since.’ ‘My God!’ I said to my wife, ‘who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?’
  9. Removed my GW seat today to find out why the 12 volt plug quit that I have in my left rear passenger glove compartment so that I can charge my phone. After I removed the seat I saw where it was pretty darn nasty (dusty) under there around all the wires and relays, so not wanting to use water to rinse it off I decided to use the 210MPH leaf blower. Man that leaf blower did the job very well, and I was really impressed with how clean it looked afterwards, until I looked outside and saw our black Avalanche that I just spent the last 3 days waxing. Guess that wasn't the smartest idea I've had lately....
  10. Mighty fine looking bike there Freebird. Looks great!

  12. A neighbor down the street bought a Harley-Davidson XR 1200X. He stopped at my house to show me his bike. He said; Go ahead, sit on it.. So I threw my right leg over the seat and went to sit down and WOW.. that exhaust pipe burns like heck when you have short pants on.......Now I have a two burn marks on my right inner calf. You can bet I wont be climbing on that bike again or anything like it any time soon if ever at all.

  17. @SpencerPJ Yes, it can be done... Remove trunk and antenna(s), and a little finesse and here is what you can have ( see attached pic). Also, if you search Google for: GL1800 with the trunk removed., you will see several links to other sites that address your question in more detail.

  20. :rotf: I only think of stuff and throw it out there for the wolves.. I don't really get involved anymore.
  21. I'm surprised it broke. I just wonder if someone didn't try to take it and in doing so they broke it....or...another theory is someone walked by the bike and their elbow hit it and broke it maybe. That is a very unlikely problem on the Ventures. I have never heard of it before, but hey, I could be in the dark and just dont know too now.. Good luck with the repair. It looks like you did a good job on the repair.
  22. It sure would be great for all of us bikers if Motels, Hotels, B&B's across the land would compete in / join in, on adding a Motorcycle Friendly certification to their bragging wall. Certifications for these hotels, motels and B&B's would be acquired to ensure that the motorcyclist will have a high-level service which are to be found on the same level at all the certified hotels. The most important part of this certification is that motorcyclists are welcome. Such issues as these need to be addressed or included to be able to achieve such a certification: Secure parking for motorcycles (paved preferred) Breakfast/lunch box to take-away Flexible meal times if restaurant is on site Motorcycle route maps available to meet each motorcycle riders needs Promotion of motorcycle events in the area Storage for helmets and jackets Drying facilities Washing area for cleaning the motorcycle Maintenance area with "some" tools Weather forecast for next 5 days Corporation / coordination with local motorcycle garages if major repairs are required And always having ....cold beer available.... .... I mean cold drinks available.
