  1. My opinon only here...

To ensure you lubricated them well:

I myself would split the kill switch / starter button housing and remove the rear half of the housing from the handle bar just enough to where I could remove the two throttle cables from the round groved end of the grip.

You can loose the cable adjustments to do this and re-adjust them after you put it back to gether.

Once the cables are removed, you can hold them "upward in the air" and squirt your choice of lubricant down into the outer cable housing.

A little difficult,, but by hand, you can pull on each cable to work the oil in.

Replace the cables back into the round end of the grip as they were.

Do not pry on the cable for it can / will cause damage..

Assemble the switch housing making sure you align the plastic housing pin in the hole on the back side of the handle bar (if yours has one) ....insert and tighten the screws.

re-adjust the adjusters for proper cable tension and play....:thumbsup2:

  3. Not sure what part of my last appology was misunderstood Jack

Please, let me try one more time.

    Jack,

I am sorry if I posted something in "your thread" that didnt make sence to you or anyone else.

My intent was not to hi-jack your thread at all.

I "tucked my tail" in shame two posts ago with my first appology, when I said:

Sorry if it didnt make any sence.:sign13:

I certainly hope you can find in in your heart to find my second appology acceptable.

  4.

Not really sure what this has to do with the title or intention of this thread.-Jack

    Well Jack,

I guess I was thinking it might have to do with a possible "dommino effect"..

Aircraft engine manufactureer has a big lay off, aircraft manufacturing companies that use these engines cant get them, so they need to lay folks off, and with out engines there is less of a need for aircraft mechanics...

Guess I was thinking out of the box.....I'll just go back in and be quiet...:confused24:

Sorry if it didnt make any sence.:sign13:

  5.

Will do Eck! I am also considering buy an extra ignition switch to carry with me on the bike.

It was a gut wrenching moment for me yesterday to realize that I was stuck on the road because of this lousy switch!!

You are a fair distance from me but if you ever ride this far North give me a shout and lunch is on me.....at Hooter's of course!

Know what you mean about that wrenching feeling stuck on the road...my bike just quit on me one day on the way to Ft. Collins, and I thought my whole trip was over, but it started back up anf the trip was a complete success.

Ive been looking for a bad RSV switch that I can play with to see what I can come up with to make an easy quick fix on the road for everyone that has this problem.

If you ever know of anyone that has an old defective switch, tell them I am looking for one please.

    Oh, and Someday,

I just might take you up on that lunch offer too......you never know what Im up to.. :thumbsup2:

  6. The Tech found a set of stainless steel bolts in his toolbox and he's gonna use them.

I gave him $20 for lunch in return and put a nice smile on his face to boot..........:thumbsup2:

Hey BoomerCPO, in the future, if you EVER need another set of Stainless Steel bolts ...FOR ANYTHING............

    PLEASE contact "ME"...

Hell, I could use $20.00 bucks for two SS bolts and a big smile on my face to boot!!..:rotf::rasberry:

I know he is installing them for you, but I would too.. :thumbsup2:

  7. but why do you remove your brake discs every time ?

Are you that concerned about leaning on the discs ?

[i've never had a reason to take mine off in twelve years.]

    Hey Greg,

Your doing what I always do....:no-no-no: :rasberry:

You may want to read the (3rd) post in this thread..:whistling:(above) which states:

  8. Know what you mean Randy... my bike has been parked for 2 weeks straight for the first time since I bought it in 05.....I cant stand it...

We are having a breakfast M&E tomorrow morning in Huntsville, and I know for a fact I am taking my truck........suposed to be 25 to 27 in the morning here...Yuck...

  9. Im chiming in, but I am no expert on them....

    Some other things to digest:

    • Does the "unit" run on 12 volts?
    • Does the unit "charger" run on 12 volts?
    • Is the unit "vibration proof"?
    • Does the unit come happen to come with an attachment to "swap" from bike to car
    • Does the unit come with "2009" maps?
    • Can you download new maps to the unit, if it does not have 2009 maps?

There are many styles of attachments and bracketry available these days to fit most any make or model unit you choose.....

Make sure you install an inline fuseable link when you hard wire it to your bike.

If it comes with a "plug in" for the ciggarette lighter, the push in plug itself may have a fuse in the very end of it...if it does, make sure you carry a spare or two..

  10. Matt,

Im not certain, but I think your problem may be because of the light duty stock ground cable...

There has been mention of a heavy duty ground cable mod for 1st gens to help aid in starter related problems..

Squidley or some other 1st gen knowledgeable person will jump in here soon to explain more in detail..so hang in there.

  11. In my opininion I would never do this for you can easily damage the chrome and gouge the weight by using a pipe wrench.

Yes, the end weights can be removed using this method but the choice is yours..

(quote) Tape the weights and use a pipe wrench to loosen them

I suggest you remove the end weights in the way they were designed to be removed by using the proper tools.

On the very tip or end of the chrome weight, there is a small plastic chrome cap that can easily be removed by using the blade of a pocket knife and carefully pry it outward & off. Inside the hole that this plastic cap covers is an allen socket head bolt.

Use the proper size allen head wrench turnging counter clock wise or left direction (lefty loosen / righty tighty) and the end weight will come off as it was designed to be removed.

  12. Heres a funny short story about a deer and a friend of mine I worked with years ago..

My friend was riding with another guy who hit a small deer with his car.

They both got out and thought the deer was dead.

Together, they got the deer in the front seat with them.

My friend being on the passenger side, had his leg over the deer and was holding its neck like holding its head up.

The driver started down the road again and shortly the deer came back to "FULL" life..

The driver slammed on the brakes and bailed out..laughing at first..

My friend, stuck in the car, was wrestling this so called small deer that was litterly kicking and stomping the tar out of him.

My friend was finaly able to get out of the car..but the deer stayed in the car kicking the heck out of the seats, dash board, windshield roof, and then finally worked its way out and ran off....

They were both lucky.... but the car was severly damaged...:rotf:

My friend (a large man too) said he never struggled with anything so dang strong as that deer..he said he just couldnt hold on to it..
