Sorry to hear this John,
I know you have been dealing with leg,hip and foot problems "way" before I met you.
I wish you the best during your operation and with your recovery.

Not really sure but they orignally thought of Georgia but then decided to drive all the way Florida. They were heading down I75 and wanted to travel through Daytona.
They tried a few bike shops but no one gets back to them.
Brad
Brad,
I-75 goes south near the west side of Florida and Daytona is way over on the east coast line just off I-95 ........ Sounds like your friend is planing a round trip of Florida.
If he is taking a round the world trip of Florida, he can travel to Jacksonville, and see if he can find someone there to drop off his truck and trailer.
Then he can take I-95 south all the way to Key West if he wants, and then he can travel back north on I-75 going up the west coast all the way to to I-10.
He can take I-10 east back over to Jacksonville and pick up his truck and trailer ..

I like the Odossey battery my self and suggest you plug it up to a Battery Tender when not riding...

Contrary to ECK's post, I have had the JC Whitney luggage rack on my RSMV for seven years without problems. It looks great and I have made numerous cross country trips with it loaded heavy.Hmm, do I sense a battle here???
No battle here Dave... I guess it is possible that I got a defective one...
I have thought many times of taking it off and sending it out for re-chroming, but never did it..

Down shifting wont hurt it a bit...
I would like to see constructive evidence your friend has to back up his theroy...
Constructive evidence on my theroy......
Every rider I know, and have know, downs shifts thier bike.
I have never once in all my 40 years of riding heard anyone state that it does, or will, cause a problem.
Just watch and listen to any bike race on a round track, and you will hear them down shift constantly and HARD on every curve and they are going a lot faster then we will ever be going..
I have down shifted every stick shift vehicle I have ever owned..and when nessisary, I have down shifted my automatic transmission vehicles on very steep hills to avoid my brakes from overheating, and have never once had a problem.

I would take several measurements of tread depth in both directions from the center line towards the rim edge.
These measurements would be taken in several places around the tire, then
The patteren of measurements would tell if you are out of (or off) center..
Dont go by the dirt lines on the tread as V7Goose mentioned.. I agree you cant judge the tread depth or wear patteren by the dirt lines

I bought and installed a JC Whitney luggage rack on my 05 RSV and I will never buy another chrome piece from JCW...
The weld constantly rusts, and the very cheap chrome is spotted in several places...
I have heard from others where they experienced cracking in the weld joints...
So for what its worth... dont buy a JCW luggage rack...
spend another 40 or 50 bucks and get what you pay for...

When I bought my 2008 Royal Star Venture last April I received a Yamaha mp3 player and the problem I have is that I must have misplaced my instructions for it (and the driver software?). Does anyone have this unit who can tell me what I need to get this unit to work. Thanks
try here:

I had to quit... had smokers cough, then started weezing really bad,, went to Dr. found out I have Emphysema... I quit about 3.5 yrs ago and cant stand the smell of smoke..
Every year I have noticed I have shortness of breath worse then the year before...and its only going to get worse the Dr. says..
My Dad is dieing from Emphysema right now, Been on oxygen for past 10 years...he cant hardly move his body anymore with out gasping for air..something I have to look forward they say..
When I smoked, I enjoyed it I think, but then again, it was a habit, so I am not sure if I really enjoyed it or needed it.. but I did it.
Glad I stopped though...and if you can then do it.

I know I would want to ship the parts back out to only one person if it were me...
This guy would not make a dime on this if he had to package and return ship each set individually to each owner all over the world now....
Most likely we would have to send the floor boards to one VR member, that member would then send them ALL IN AT ONCE to the chroming company..they would return them to that one VR member when done and the VR member would be in a hell of a mess at the post office packaging and sending individual sets out to each owner...

Check your steering head bearing adjustment....

Well you are sort of asking a loaded question,,
something on the same order as: Do you prefer HANEs or Fruit of the Loom...
Some folks wont go for a ride at all until they have RIDE ON in thier tires.
Some here dont use anything.
I have used ride on and in my opinion, it does give one a better sence of security in that you feel you have a little more "edge" if your tire was to get a small puncture.
Now this puncture must be within the center line of the tire, or very little to one side or the other of the center line, for it to really work.
I have since then replaced those tires (3) times now with new tires and I have not used Ride On in any of my new replacement tires.
This is by choice and not because there was anything wrong with RIDE ON, or that I do not believe in it.
And by the way........ I prefer Hanes...........

So yours will be nothing but a clean slate Eck??
At least it appeared that way to me as nothing was on the page.
Ah, not so fast ..
I was jokingly implying that I have not done a thing in the major accomplishment category.......and that I only changed a flat tire in the "other accommplishments" category..I did not even try to imply that "I", of all people, have a clean slate.....
but then again........maybe I better re-check that...
Oh wait this way we can write on it whatever we want about you.
Hmmm this'll take some thought and help from the VR family here.
What say everyone?
Oh boy this ought to be good..... let me start it off...
(1) Eck cant catch a UPS truck

By the way....... what will YOURS look like Larry

Gene,
Sorry I did not call you back yesterday after our breakfast M&E like I said I would.
I ended up going over to DaveCB's house and helping him install rear lighting on his bike, and forgot all about returning your call..
Continuing our conversation.....I do not see a problem at all with the bike being in the trailer on an angle as long as the front wheel is in a wheel chock of some type where it can not turn when brakes are applied or when rounding sharp curves.
When I hauled my bike, I also had two "emergency" tie-down straps that were attached to the ceiling frame and to the handle bars. These tie downs were not pulled real taunt..because the bike suspension will give a little when hauling the bike and you do not want to rip your handle bars off when you hit a big speed bump.... but I had these "just in case" the bike did try to **** sideways, these straps would "hold it upright"..I never needed them luckily..but they were there in case..
I'm not sure how the tracking system was installed on the plywood flooring in that trailer, but hopefully they use something underneath the flooring when securing the mounting hardware so that the plywood does not give way and a mounting bolt can not be pulled up through the wood floor from excess strain like slamming on brakes..
I installed non slip vinyl flooring in mine.. Made it easy to sweep and mop clean when camping....

Just so I am not misunderstood...
I understood your first post completely and you explained your thoughts very well.
:think:You know after I think about it some...that extra key switch is not a bad idea though. You could place it under the seat, under the trunk, on mount it in the inner fairing or some where and use it in the event of an emergency only. You would have to make sure it would handle the load. (at least 30 amps)
Well, I'm thinking more on the lines of having an extra "key type switch" but I do not want to hide it to much to where I have to get back off the bike to turn it on...
I'm thinking of mounting it in the dash and only the "key slot" is showing...
If "stock" ignition goes out, I can take the "emergency switch key" off my stock key ring, and insert it into the "emergency key slot" sticking out of the dash, turn it to the on position, hit the starter button, and take off....
The emergency key can be placed on one of those pull apart type key rings so I dont have to remove the stock key from the ignition switch ..
I too still have mote thinking to do..

You are on to the same train of thought I have....
I want to install some type of fix now...not wait till I break down...
Your idea appears to be very well thought out, and as I sit here and review your drawing, I see no reason why it would not work. Hopefully others will jump in and review your drawing for any possible problems..
I want a fix of some type. I want to tear apart a stock ignition switch to see if I can come up with a simple mod for everyone, and your basically doing the same thing.
Cool beans.!! we need more brains working this issue since Yamaha wont..
In my fix, I would rather have another "key type switch" in place of a simple toggle switch though...I do not mean another ignition switch, but a smaller type switch (that is hidden some place) that takes a key to turn it on and off..
I have yet to have a key switch go bad...but my goodness I can imagine that would really ruin your day especially if you were on a great trip 1000 miles away from home in some pu dunk town like l live in with closest dealer 50 miles away and the chances they would have key switch are about 1000/1.I was just wondering...what if as a preventive measure you went ahead and removed most of the load from the key switch and go ahead and install a 30amp relay to do the work. I was just looking at the wiring diagram and seem just about everything except radio/CB is fed through that one contact to the brown/blue wire. I do mean everything ignition, fuel pump, lights cruise control, and all lights.
The main fuse is a 30 Amp so a relay capable of handling 30 amps should be sufficient. A short piece of #10 AWG wire to T into the red power wire feeding the switch soldered and taped up with some of that self fusing rubber tape for reliability. This would allow the Power to still go into the key switch to power the radio and the contact that did power just about anything would now control only the coil of the relay.
Take a look at this modified wiring diagram ( the red is the added stuff) I took the wiring diagram from the back of the shop manual and modified it.
Tell me what you guys think...would it be worth wild to go ahead and do this since it is a protential problem to spoil a great road trip. I had not planned to carry enough tools to repair this kinda of stuff at a gas station.
