  1. Cougar,

    You have another p-email.....:thumbsup2:

    Oh Cougar, one more thing...

No need to pay attention to DaveCB's email.... here is why... :stirthepot:

See, my poor ol-friend Dave doesnt have time to be buying any more bike parts.

Dave already has a big "pile" of brand new bike parts that he hasnt even installed yet and the parts are all still in thier packaging..

    OH wait ..there is more..

My buddy Dave also has a brand new condor stand and a brand new floor jack that he hasnt even used or figured out how to use,(but he is having a problem with the condor stand..), and if memory serves me right (which I'm sure his wife Dakota will back me on this one :innocent:), is that Dave also has about 6 brand new ceiling floresent garage lights still sitting in thier boxes on the floor in his garage along with the new wiring and electrical outlet / switch and box that the poor man hasnt put up yet and then of course there were some other chores the wife mentioned...:whistling:...but I think you get my point.. :rotf:

So Dave, ol-buddy, ol-pal, I'm sorry my friend, but I just had to send Cougar a P-email to see about some parts that I could install.... AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE....:buttkick:

    Oh Dave,

My offer to help you install those chrome parts and garage lights still stands if you ever need my help..........

  2. If I EVER did go after a Harley, it would be the road glide.

I have a friend who shared many a mile together with and he rides a road glide.

His road glide is a dang good running and looking bike, very dependable, doesnt leak any oil, and the sound system is more than up to par..

The only thing of concern I have seen, and effects all road glides, is the right hand side forward amber marker lens located on the right hand side frame that comes down from the tripple tree in front of, and back under, the engine.

The plastic marker light lens has a tendency to "MELT" from the heat off the exhaust pipe that comes out of the right side forwad jug.

There is about 1/2 inch of spacing between the two parts and every road glide I have looked at, the corner of this marker lens has been melted and bubbled up.

From what I heard, (hear say only), HD is supposed to come out with a recall on this to add a small heat shield on the backside of the lens housing...

  3. Could this occur if the fuel petcock was left open? I had this same problem on my 2003 and I must admit I never turn the fuel petcock off.

    Roadkill,

It would have an effect unless the carb bowl jets didnt seat properly, and leaked gas into the cylinders..there by flooding them. You would smell gas..

As you know I have an 05 RSV, and I have left the pet cock valve open on mine since day one and I only move it to reserve when I have to.. Once I fill back up, it goes in its normal open position and stays there...and I have never had any problems with mine starting from doing this. Many here leave theres open too.

In his case, I believe it would be the holes (or cracks) in the rubber Carb Diaphrams, as was already mentioned above

  4. I got your back Allen I remember following you from the middle of Kansas to Ft Collins. We didnt get lost. We almost ran out of gas but we didnt

Get lost:cool10: actually we beat Eck and the other guys that followed him to Ft Collins and they left before us:stirthepot:

    Hey John,

I have one hell of an excuse on this one.

To set the record straight though, please note that I did not lead this ride, I was the tail gunner.

My first mistake was leaving you guys and following two guys on Harleys... (dang, I forgot thier names though - sorry)..but they were a blast to ride with ...

I will never forget that ride...85-90 MPH in 104 degrees all the way through Kansas.....

And sitting under that awning at that old old gas station, waiting out that nasty tornatic storm was a nerve racking experience too.....as I held onto my bike watching the gas pumps rock back and forth and watching Cinderella and their kids sitting in the van...:whistling:

  5. Dont feel bad.... I did the same thing the first time I loaded my bike into my enclosed trailer, but I didnt have the hitch hooked up to anything...duh....

Just wasnt thinking at all, and when I rode up the ramp door to the point where half the bike was in and half was out the ramp door went down against the driveway, and the entire enclosed trailer went up in the air and almost flipped over backwards on to me.

I could not back out of the trailer because the part over the top of the ramp door was against the "rear side" of my windshield and the front tire was on about a 40 degree angle UPWARDS, The tonge of the trailer was pointed way the heck up in the air..

Talk about being stuck... I gave her a whole lot of throttle and let out the clutch and rode the bike all the way into the trailer until the front tire hit the front wall..

The trailer tonge slammed down against the drive way and I thought my bike was going through the plywood floor...

I hit the kill switch as soon as the tire hit the wall, and realized the bike, trailer and I were all right..

My wife stood there in shock at first then laughing like hell at one stupid man..

From that day on, I always put jack stands under the back every time I rode the bike in or out.

And as one above stated: Sometimes I felt kinda finicky for doing that, but I knew it was a whole lot safer..:thumbsup2:

  6. If I remember correctly, my bike (RSV 2nd gen) measured 9 foot, 4 inches long total.

That is measuring from the front most part center line of the front tire to the most aft end of the top rear luggage compartment.

I owned a 6 wide x 10 ft long enclosed trailer and it was very close to touching the rear ramp door on the inside and the front tire was strapped up against the front wall...

  7. food for thought on marker lights and LED's...

I removed the rear red marker lens that is located underneath my license plate, put it on my drill press, and with proper depth set, I drilled three holes through the back plate. I then installed three red LED lights that I got from Auto zone ($6.00) and pushed the snuggly into the holes I drilled, then wired them up to the Brake light.

You can do the same thing with the side marker lights and you can run the wires through the inside of the chrome rear crash bar. There are two drain holes in them to run the wires through and wire them to your running lights.

The front side markers are a bit tricky, but you can run the wires along side your front brake hoses with enough slack to flex and wire then also to your running lights..

  8. I heard about this by a friend who lives in Charleston, Sc.

Here are the new laws they put in place George:

    http://myrtlebeachbikerinfo.com/ordinances.html

I have coffee and talk with the sargent and other officers of the Madison County Police department almost every morning and the sargent was telling me this past summer that the city of Madison and the city of Huntsville both are drafting new laws to stop the trail of tears ride from coming through thier cities because of the time and cost impacts it has them.

I was told that it is mandatory for every poilce officer in both cities to work the day of this ride directing traffic and handling bike related accidents and when doing so their total manpower is "tied up" and they can not attend the normal everyday public situations (domestic disputes, roberies, thefts and cager accidents), in a timely manor to protect and serve their city / communities as they need to...

This past summer was the first time the ride was split into two rides with one going north west out of Chatanooga and over lower Tn (I-64) and the other ride coming through Huntsville and Madison (hwy 72 east)...

I am anticipating the same thing will happen again this year...:whistling:

  9. You can up shift and down shift these bikes with out even using the clutch by slowly letting off the throttle as you pull up or push down on the shifter....

Maybe this would give your hand some rest and only use the clutch when coming to a stop.

    :thumbsup2:

  10. eck

you're not alone....i also have the whitney rack and it is doing the same thing......local chromer says $110 to re-do it..........i used fender type washers ( stainless steel ) to mount it along with rubber washers ........so far ,no cracks......

No way will I ever pay $110.00 to have this cheap thing re-chromed..........

I would buy a new Yamaha or GW rack for around the same price as that. :thumbsup2:
