  1. I did buy the EBC HH style for the front. My biggest concern is talk I have seen about shims, and don't put them in wrong, or lose them. When you open the calipers up for the new pads, are you supposed to take the cover off of the master cylinder? Do you have to bleed the brake lines after replacing the pads? I am only doing the front. I thnk I saw something on here about not having to take the tire off. Is it easier with the tire off, or is it easy enough with the tire on? Thanks for your help
  2. Hello everyone, I have been a supporting member for over a year now, and I have to say that the information on here is fantastic. I have already done so much to my 06 RSV by myself, because of help from other great members on here. I am wondering if there are any members that live close to the Boston area? I would love to meet with anyone whose mechanical skills are better than mine, and that won't take much. I don't really have a reliable Dealer near me, and no shop that I trust too much to work on my bike. I took it in for a rear tire last year, and I'm wondering if it went back together properly. I've seen a lot of talk on here about washers not being put back on in the proper order and so on. I also need to replace my front brake pads. I have tried looking for the info on here but for some reason when I try and search stuff, it never really pops up with the info I'm looking for. Is there a trick to it? Is there a section with step by step directions for doing front brake pads on an 06 RSV? I do have some ability, I think I just let myself get too nervous sometimes. Thanks for any and all help!! It's almost riding time here in New England, be safe!! Adam
  3. This was my first full season with the RSV and I did a little over 7,000 miles. That is a huge improvement over the last few years with my Vulcan Classic where I was doing about 4,000miles a season. I do plan on having a lot more than 7k next year now that I am totally comfortable on the RSV and I have made some improvements!! First snow fall today here in Mass. So I might be done for the year, we'll see. I don't put her away for the winter..........
  4. Hey all!!! Looks like everyone is getting great gifts for Christmas. Sounds like everyone is having a great time as well. I got a new Fusion l.e.d headlight, and a new helmet, the new half helmet that is smaller and lighter than any other DOT helmet on the market. That leads me to a question. Has anyone installed the fusion led headlight in there 2nd gen RSV? I have the new light in, that's all good, I just can't get the retainer clip back on to hold the bulb in. What have others done to solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's still all torn apart and it's beautiful here in the north east, and it's supposed to be near 60 again tomorrow. I would love to button it up and get out there on her!!!! Thank you and Merry Christmas, Adam
  5. VERY FUNNY!!!! You're right, I fell for it!!
  6. I went out for a nice ride to Gloucester, Ma on Saturday! Weather was around 60. I could take winters like this every year!!
  7. I was just wondering if anyone from this site is from Massachusetts? I live just north of Boston, in Stoneham. I would love to meet some people from this site and do some rides next summer. Or even this winter if it stays in the 50's and 60's!! Hopefully I can find someone a little more mechanically skilled then myself. I will try quite a bit by myself, but would love to have someone I can learn more things from. Perfectly willing to do the work!
  8. Orange juice is very high in Potassium too!! Couple glasses of that and 100 bananas should definitely solve the problem!!!
  9. I have not been a member as long as most of the people on here, but in my opinion, the site should be left as it is for now. I have owned my 06 RSV since March 2015 and I am always on here. People are still buying lots of these bikes. I refer people to this sight all the time on the Facebook page when they say they are looking for information. If a new bike does get released in 2016, that might bring in new members, and rekindle the fire with some of the old members. I also think a lot of people don't want to pay the fee. With all of the info out there on the web, most people probably feel it's a rip off to pay. I know it's only $12 a year, and I will pay that until I'm dead, but some won't. Again, that's just my opinion.
  10. You definitely need to make sure any LED light strips for a motorcycle are IP65 rated, then you don't need to worry about the rain, snow, or any moisture. Also need to make sure they are made to run on a 12volt system. Most LED lights should have a life span of 30k hours to 50k hours.
  11. I had a slow leak in my front tire and couldn't find it! Then one day my friend asked if I checked the valve itself. There is a little piece that screws into the valve. I forget what its called. I went and bought a box of 5 for around $2, took the old one out, and the new one in...........problem gone.
  12. So you do like the polk speakers way better than the stock? Do you get a little more low end from them? I know you wont get a ton because of the size, a little more would be nice. Thanks Adam
  13. I read that article about the Purolator filters. That's why I bought K&N 303. It seemed like a lot of people were happy with that one. I just bought a gallon of Yamalube 15w40. I'll see how she does!! Thanks for your help and input
  14. ok, I know there are tons of posts about this already. I think I have looked at everyone of them. I don't know what type of oil is currently in my bike, but I recently passed the 3,000 miles so I want to change the oil and filter. I already bought the K&N oil filter. I know how to do the change. I am just very confused on what type of oil. I don't think I need to worry about Synthetic because my bike only has 16,000 miles on it. I live in Mass. and mostly ride in the warmer weather, but I do ride until it snows as well. In my last bike I ran 20w-40, non-synthetic. I know a lot of it is personal preference. I'm just looking for people who have a lot more experience than me, to give a little advise on what oil. Should I go to synthetic? Some people have mentioned that changing the oil has helped the whine. I have a little whine around 50-55mph. Nothing crazy. Thank you so much in advance for any help in giving me peace of mind for buying the right oil! Adam
  15. I believe someone just put some used ones in classified section.
  16. A few weeks ago I bought the Iridium plugs and put them in. It actually seems to be running a different in a bad way. Is it possible that is happening because a the gap on a plug(or more) might be off? I never set the gap because I thought they came already set. I know you may want more info on how its running worse. Can't really explain it. It's just one of those things you can tell something is off a little bit. Only happened after the plug change. Thanks for any help on this
  17. Thanks for sharing! How do they mount? I'm assuming double sided tape or Velcro?
  18. Hey Slowrollwv, I have a few a couple questions about your bike. First, what type of passenger back rest do you have? My wife loves the type that kind of wrap around and the stock backrest is not like that. Also, what type of arms rests are they? Thank you for your help, Adam
  19. Awesome! Thanks so much everyone. I rode 250 miles yesterday for Laconia Bike week and I used a little choke first thing in the morning, then I didn't need it anymore. That's pretty typical. It was always just that first start up. But the night temps here are still dropping to the 50's
  20. I have a new to me 06 RSV. I have been riding it since late April early May. I have been noticing now that the warmer weather is here that I still need to pull the choke out just a hair for it to idle properly until it warms up. I can ride for hours, then if it sits for a few hours, I still need to choke it just a hair for a few minutes. I have ran Seafoam thru the tank a couple times the past month. I have not checked the plugs yet. Could this be a Spark Plug issue? Is this normal for these bikes? I previously owned a 98 Vulcan Classic and I never had to do this once the warmer weather came. Thank you for any and all help. Adam
  21. I had a Vulcan 1500 classic for 4 years and wanted something bigger and more comfortable for longer rides. I bought an 06 RSV in January of 2015. I loved the look, the styling and all the features that came with it. I joined this site to gain as much info as possible. I saw the same thing as you. Everyone was talking about the top heaviness. Get a smaller front tire, lower the rear, raise the rear and on and on and on. I was now so nervous about riding my RSV, I was wondering if I made the right choice. Sometime in April 2015 the snow was finally clearing off the roads and I could get my first ride on my new to me bike. I jumped on it and rode it like it was my Vulcan. It's definitely heavier than my Vulcan. When stopped and the wind is gusty, you want to make sure your feet are firmly planted. But regular riding and parking lot speeds, I personally do not find it hard to handle. I am 6' tall and about 250lbs. As long as you ride with common sense, and are confident, I don't think its a huge issue. My strongest advise is sit on one, make sure you can put your feet flat on the ground, and kind of sway it from side to side. You'll know right there if you are comfortable.
  22. I just bought some from Big Bike Parts for my 06 RSV. I did need the spacer that someone on here makes and sells, other than that it fit perfectly.
  23. I just bought a brand new set of 2011 RK Exhausts and there is no cat in them. I guess on the newer HD Touring bikes the cat has been put in the header pipes
  24. Will any slip on exhaust that fits a Road King fit the RSV? I am seeing some nice ones on Ebay that are not Stock for the RK, but they will fit them. I have a new to me 06 RSV and I need a beefier sounding exhaust without being too loud. Thanks guys
