  1. Hello, I have a friend whose dad passed away about 2-1/2 or so years ago and left him a 1997 royal star tour deluxe. My friend has a Harley heritage he rides and right after he lost his dad, we went riding together. As I didn't have a bike back then, I rode his dad's RSTD. It wouldn't idle at all at the stops w/o holding a little throttle in it. Now the bike has sit for 2 or more years after this and it won't do anything but start and immediately die even w/ full choke! He wants me to go thru the carbs for him but thought I'd pass this on to ya'll first for any suggestions. It fires and starts every time I hit the starter but then dies and I can't even hold any amount of throttle in it. If I do, it won't even try to fire or start. Just cranks over until I let off of the throttle, then it goes back to starting and dying. I don't know where the fuel filter is and I even thought his gas cock may be restricted but will start checking on everything next week for him. I have a 1991 Venture royale trike that has sit for 2 or so years w/o running before I bought it and it started right up and runs fine. Just can't see why my friend's bike would be any different? THANKS IN ADVANCE for any ideas, links, and filter location help I can get!
  2. If I go to a craft store what's the foam called that I need if it's not Uni-foam brand?
  3. We have a Venture Royale that has a Motortrike conversion. When we bought it, it was still wired for the class to operate ONLY in the "ACC" key position. This is so you can't air the shocks while riding as the owners manual says to have NO weight on the bike when doing this. Since ours is triked w/ rear air bags, we wanted to monitor & adjust air pressure while going down the road like the Goldwing trikes do. So I hooked a wire to the input of the class fuse from the accessory positive terminal in the fuse box on top of the battery. Now we can monitor and control the air system while riding.
  4. My 1990 Venture stays wet under the air cleaner but it's by all carbs, not just one. I have never paid attention to it cause the engine runs great so I didn't think it was a problem. Guess I need to take a rag and dry it to see if it gets wet again and which area gets wet first. Thanks for this post!
  5. :confused24:My wife and I ride a 1990 Venture Royale that was triked in 2001 and rides SOOO ROUGH it feels like riding a hard tail Harley. We bought the trike because my wife can't ride anymore on our 2 wheel dresser due to a recent back injury. She was doing pretty good for 1 or 2 short trips but started hurting so bad she has now started driving the car on our CMA runs because of the roughness of the trike. However, she rode w/ a friend on his Goldwing trike that has the same Motortrike conversion, the same solid axle rearend, & the same suspension as our Yamaha has but she couldn't believe how much smoother the Goldwing rode! Both our trike & the Goldwing have the 7.5 ford differential w/ 2 progressive shocks in front of the rear end and 2 air shocks in rear of the rear end. Both are driveline driven but ours won't give us a smooth ride regardless of the air pressure in the shocks and if I go to low on air pressure, the trike will bottom out on bumps. I can see where it has been bottoming out a lot before we bought it due to the dugout place in the trike frame above the rear end where the bar goes up from the rear end to the frame for centering the differential from side to side. Any suggestions for fixing this hard riding problem? Just going over small bumps in the roads will jar me like the trike has no suspension at all. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!
  6. The post by Freebird doesn't tell us whether we need a 1k ohm, 1/4 watt or a 1k ohm 1/2 watt resistor. Same with the 2.2k ohm resistor. They both come in 1/4 & 1/2 watt resistors but I bought all 4 & hooked them up one at a time by cutting the wire going to the CMS & wiring in the resistor. I first tried the 1k ohm - 1/4 watt, no luck. Then tried the 1k ohm - 1/2 watt resistor, no luck. Then I tried the 2.2k ohm - 1/4 watt & then the 2.2k ohm resistor - 1/2 watt & none turned off my warning light or the battery emblem in the CMU. I have not had a problem w/ this ever since I have owned the bike but my entire CMS quit working completely so I purchased a used one from ebay & everything worked perfect again for a day or so. Then my battery emblem came on & the red warning light came on so I checked the white w/ red stripe wire & nothing had happened to it. Guess there was a resistor somewhere in the wiring harness that went out allowing 12v to go to the CMU and no resistor will fix it???? I even ran a completely new wire to the electrical connector w/ a 2.2k ohm 1/4 watt resistor soldered in it & the warning light & battery emblem still comes on. Guess this used CMU got fried in that circuit??? Everything else still works and registers OK in the used CMS, fuel gauge, all the light checks, & all except the battery sensor section.
  7. After reading the article about installing a resistor in the white/red stripped wire to stop this warning from showing, I traced my wire from the acc fuse to the CMU & couldn't find where a resistor had been installed but my battery light & warning light stayed off after the check finished. But for some reason as I was riding my trike into the garage today, this light & warning came on & I can't find out why. Any suggestions?
  8. Thanks for the info about cleaning the contacts & connectors on the gear selection switch. I'll try that as mine does great except for the "N." when I shift to neutral my neutral light works perfectly but my CMS display doesn't. I can shut off the engine & turn the key back on & it displays the "N" again.
