  1. BTW you can search it on You Tube and come up with some results and how they look and sound clips. Use your best speakers to get a feel for it. Just search, whatever exhaust on a Yamaha Venture.
  2. If you look up the statistics on the color RED and insurance. It explains a lot. I knew several people who bought red cars and got rear ended. They are more likely to get a ticket too. Crashing Sucks!
  3. IMHO I would certainly go with the Monster Ovals. Made for the bike a true bolt on no fab thing and they are usually EPA compliant. I talked to the rep at the Show and we were hitting on that topic. Ive never heard a set of Vance and Hines I did not like. And Yep. I used to Highjack my Former GFs Shadow just to hear the pipes! I may get a set myself!
  4. I can guarantee you don't want to do that! I had less than a load than that on the seat that shifted on a turn and put me on my Arse like I was pure steel and ran over a 3000# magnet. Trailer!
  5. Ill have to try that! Buy the wire harness from Steve someone already listed his info. He ships so fast it could be perishable and make it on time! He will even add 4 feet of wire to it if you want. I have like 4 of them the one I use most is the one with the Extra wire, It just plugs in under the seat and When i Tow I plug it in and when I don't I unplug that unsightly mess. It runs down my left side along the eyebrow, I tapped high power magnets to it to hold it in place. The last magnet is at the trailer Draw bar. Takes like 2 minutes to install and 1 to take off.
  6. Next time I get time Im going to do an instructional on this. Might be one of those things you have to see to actually get. BTW Freebird, My new trailer has incandescent bulbs and just like you said, it runs them just fine also. Straight, no converter or isolator. Its as simple as adding a 5 wire plug to the trailer, and adding two dedicated turn lights and wire the current turns together on one circuit as the Brakes. Assuming you know what the bike has on output..... it will match the After on the trailer. Colors Vary these are for instructional purposes only. Could be right on could be slightly different. Now, ------------------------------- After out from bike in to trailer White Ground ----------------- WHite Ground Brown Run ---------------- Brown Run Yellow Turn L & Stop ---------------- Yellow Turn Left Green Turn R & Stop ---------------- Green Turn Right Nothing ---------------- New wire Brakes to two brake lights. I used RED for Stop. So just add one wire to the bike to the 5 wire plug, and to the 5 wire plug on the trailer and then connect it to a STOP light on the trailer and then on to the OTHER STOP light on the trailer. The previous TURN and STOP wires on the trailer will now serve as TURN LEFT or RIGHT ONLY from the bike. (on a four wire system the served as a Brake AND Turn. No more!) I suggest using LED lights but be aware they have a ground and positive that cannot be mixed up or they will not light. All you will need is One length of wire from bike to the lights and Two new Amber Turn lights mounted on the trailer.
  7. http://forums.delphiforums.com/darksiding/start Go to the above page and scroll to the information folder, read for a few days, Then on same base page click on top left messages tab, go to Yamaha and read what other have done! You go that route, same exact tires that have been mounted and proven. Only experienced Darksiders should be picking new tires to run Darkside. Its a science. Below is the most untypical application of a Darkside tire on a Bike I can find. Darkside tires are normally run on tour and cruisers NOT Sport bikes, but watch to the part where the tire slips out on him and he crashes. (It doesnt happen) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYhkCA_JwJM If you run the right Darkside tire on the rear and a rear on the front reversed, you can go past 30K on that combination. So you will leave on a few long vacations and never worry about changing a tire. You will stop better, you will have superior traction front and rear in any weather or conditions, sand, mud, snow, wet roads, towing, it will ride better, it will everything better. Everything but in some cases go over 100 better. Some have experienced a whobble over say 85 or somewhere in that range all depending. In this case same as a Bike tire, get your weight over the tank and slow down. Sometimes its just a play on air pressures. it can be cured .....its normally the PSI or Out of alignment. in over 70K miles on Darkside configuration those would be the only drawbacks of a darkside tire. But, considering I would not normally ever go over 85 I don't care. I got tired of the expense and time changing out tires. Darkside is far cheaper. Your best bet is to read up on it and You Tube it and mount what someone else has according to the forum I posted. You should not rely on information from someone who has not run a Darkside tire, and you yourself should not run one without some serious study time. There are plenty of things you need to know. The worse person to listen to is someone who mounted one and took it right back off without turning it in to the bike. (150 miles of ride time and finding the right air pressure PLUS running the right front tire with it. Typically a Rear tire that has more width complements a Darkside tire. This guy an accomplished author on the subject as he is on the Darkside always. http://lifeisaroad.com/stories/2004/10/27/theDarkSide.html He has very good information. Its not for everyone. If you don't ride in inclimate weather, tow, or put more than 4000 miles a year on, its probably not for you. If you look back in history the Big heavy HDs came with a Car Type tire. In fact all bikes had that type tire, the tires we have now came from the need to mimic the racers, same as we have spoilers on our cars now and wide tires we don't really need or use. Its money in their pockets. Anyways study up on it, then decide. Personally I feel unsafe not riding the Darkside. On the other hand I have seen where a few countries have found out about the priactice and have outlawed it. ewww I would so regret that day.
  8. How many pairs of shoes will the touring model hold? Maybe get with them before they design it.
  9. I agree on the use of the bearing buddies. Especially for the kink of miles we put on a trailer. Trailer bearings service interval is 12k miles or once a year. So we have to do it anyways. When dipping in water the positive pressure is needed. But it ain't getting dipped.....I'm not going to Detroit! (Time sensitive pun about the flooding in Detroit). I have a boat trailer with no bearing buddie. Good idea you got me on. I'll put em on that and swap the caps to this. I'll probably just stick with the one set of tires and swap the skinny one to the trailer I am using. The camper weighs maybe 500 loaded and the tires say they support 750 each at 60 lbs. I'll have to tow it a bit ands see how it handles. On the axle. The camper has no axle. Just the dexter style torsion suspension. Which is only like a foot long and bolts to the frame. I was thinking putting the suspension off the camper on the tag along and buying new for the camper. Making the camper new and the tag along independent. I know someone has had to have done this. But it almost looks like you would have to retain the leaf springs and add the torsion axle. But that would be dumb.
  10. Mine will be up for sale Think I need a wing to pull a trailer. Is there a club we join when selling?
  11. The fenders are bolted on through the fiberglass body AND have a special Bead that seals them where the fiberglass meets the Fender sort of like the old late 40s cars used to have. Im not messing with it I am sure it will look worse when I am done. SO Hummm So I am thinking a few things. 1. Use the Skinny tires on both trailers on trips. That way I will always have fresh tires as they will wear out faster. 2, Maybe do away with the bearing buddies.??? Thoughts. 3, Don't know if anyone has done this. But Take the Torsion suspension off the Camper and adapt it over to the Tag along and but a new and stiffer suspension for the Camper that can handle a little more weight. I have no experience with Torsion suspensions ZIP NONE I have no idea how long the rubber lasts in them or when it gives out, So I am wondering after 20 years is it even still any good or is it getting iffy? It seems fine, no squeaks, rattles or rolls. Has anyone changed a tag along over to a Independent suspension? I love the tag along it works fine and tows much easier. MY MPG drops a lot pulling the Camper I think its more of a Winger type addition. I do tow a lot and I think the RSV is over matched with a camper. If I was going to do like Route 66 end to end, as of now I would have to leave with the RSV and the Tag along or the Roadstar and the Camper. Or a Wing and camper. What do you think? Here are the wide tires on the Tag along liiks like they would work on this. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140812_153828_zpsfpk1ym25.jpg
  12. I think I have solved this old problem and figured out what went wrong. It cut two trips short. Anyways, oil in the Air intake system. How, I was on a trip and the oil light would flash on a quick take off, so I checked the level and it was a little low. So of course I added some. I suspect then, on this long high speed trip it started pumping oil into the sytem, I did notice a few drips on the garage floor. I drained some oil, checked the level opps drained too much added too much, and then began the engine oil light flashing. I did chase it down to the throttle Possition sensor but the dealer would not sell me one until I checked and cleaned mine. I was like huh? Just do it. I have had an eye problem and I can hardly see to work on the bike when I saw where it was I was like screw that. (Its not where CLymer picture shows it) Si I just got all the oil out of the intake system and Seafoam deep creeped the carbs and shot Electrical contact cleaner at the TPS with hope. Fired it up, throttle response is what it was, and it runs a lot better. And I have yet to have the lights come on. So I think I got it. The oil light still comes on when I take off fast but so what, I am not adding any more oil. It is above the bottom mark and below the half way. So anyone else have the problem, inspect the intake for oil, Shoot Carb cleaner down from the Breather tubes on the carb until it comes out clean at the bottom of the bike (Two locations on each side of carb) Squirt the TPS, from inside and out, clean the connectors, and everything else you come into contact with. Check the plugs. And reassemble. Symptom was Engine/oil light coming on in sweet spot on throttle at cruising speed and boggy throttle response on the way to the sweet spot. It reved and ran fine. WOT and once the light would come on, a rev would turn it off for a few minutes.
  13. I have the tire only on the front. Ive had it slip a few times, but that does not mean I am changing it out, 99% of the time I am running straight on dry roads and I am looking for long wear, If I had a 600R I might be concerned. We don't have a sport bike. I have it on there so I am not changing tires on a Trip. Mine is a rear on the front. 130. (The manufacture does not even recommend their tires for this bike. You have to go to the 130 on the front.) Im in it for the long haul.
  14. For About $15 you add Yellow lights to the trailer, and one wire and wire it to the bike. The Turns now on the trailer become stops connected together. Use the leftover wire for the right turn wire then add another wire for the left turn wire. Ground and run and stop remain the same. I used a terminal Bock so I can switch it back and forth, if need be. I just split the stop lights again, and plug it into a Four Way and the original function returns and the Yellow lights do not work. (One turn light needs to be on the far end from ground.) I think Im getting too complicated. But you can figure it out. With all the electrical crap i have under the seat, I really did not have room for an isolator nor did I want one. Its something else to go wrong and a lot of wires. The bike system will run a trailer, I have a 20 year old trailer with same year old lights burns them fine. LED is even better. As I have one of those too.
  15. Those fenders are on there pretty dawg gone good.
  16. Ive went so far as to flip this thing on the bumper end and look at the frame, Its actually designed to do this I guess for storage. One person of pure steel and sex appeal like me! can do it single handed! Ok the ALCAN is/was a sweet trailer and although the tent portion seems to mimic mine, Thats all that does. The quality of the materials and worksmanship is stellar on this one. I can't believe there is not a name on it. EDIT! I searched images for Air Camper and I am 99% positive the Tent portion IS an Air Camper as that matches the name on the ladder. This was a Company out of Indianapolis IN. So now I have to figure what its bolted to. Air Campers were popular in the 60 70s and were bolted to the roof tops of VWs mostly but anything would do. Mine is the same. Its independant of the trailer and just serves as a lid. Upon close inspection of this I see the same little details, The relief stitches, double stitching, the Brace bar, the Ladder. on and on. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/aircamping_zps0f69fab7.png Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. About the wheels I was right, when you load all your gear in there. They nip the fenders on bumps. So I have to change the wheels and tires. PO probably done it to look cool.
  17. Think that was the top 7 regrets of people on their death bed. They worked too much, they should have taken more time off. Ill be going to this one unless I get stuck out somewhere! Believe it!
  18. Yea I would check the Steering head, and go with the 130 front tire next time around. Just post up here, dealers are for absolutely I can't DIY situations. They know less than we do as they are making money learning on your bike. I would not hit a dealer until I have checked everything here AND bought new tires. That bike will go a couple of hundred thousand without a rebuild. There is a thread on what things to look for on a 2nd Gen read through that you will find a few things you did not even know of.
  19. I volunteered for the first one and that was it! The rest have been by circumstance or need. If you do it again you put in for a Mile Eater, no one told me that. Anyways, I think its good to support the ones that ride the events, I imagine it would be a whole new ballgame doing a Official event and having time constraints and bonus points for off route objectives. Like them on FB and Mike Kneebone will post up some interesting stuff. Congratulations, Your One tough rider!
  20. Yea nice to read about progress! And with PICTURES! After reading this, I might be looking for a deal on one and do the same painstaking recovery process. It is a solid platform and I have an 08 which yours can certainly out tow! I may have to move on to a Gold Wing. Nice job.
  21. I have a complete restoration of a CRESTLINER going on myself.
  22. Looks like the MARZINE was the only Force in Readiness on this one! At 8PM Friday I had been awake 15 hours and work called with a Local load, Meaning I would be back. I wasn't even home. But I sprang into action. I was on my Roadstar so i zipped home. And hooked up the Camper, figuring I could leave from work. In 30 minutes I had packed, and wired the trailer lights to the bike from scratch. I zoomed off to work another 16 hours Awake and then I was going to ride down, 4 hours, take the trailer on the Triple Nickle OH 555 and drop into WV . Thanks to Capt Joe for answering me back that no one else Could make it. I am only getting about 130 a tank pulling the camper. Blugh. So I didn't want to go unless we had some people there. But I had it all set to happen! http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140808_231001_zpse6rjtd7m.jpg My bike at work in the parking lot Camper in tow. The MArines are always ready to go!
  23. I read somewhere there was a recall on trailer brakes on motorcycle trailers. I think it was something electrical making people crash, I did read in a GW forum that they determined its not a good idea. I would think Both the bike and trailer would have to have a ABS system that worked together.
  24. Im trying to find some Billy Goat Steep loose gravels roads in that area I can take yall down, If I find something real good I might show up.
  25. I have not even heard or ran across an Alcan Make. Ill have to take a look. EDIT I did take a look, This may be a Bingo. Mine would be a fully loaded Bunk only Model by what i see on their web site. It has many options. Yes mine is Fiberglass, http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071253_zpskfhsqhrx.jpg Yes entry is on the extended end. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071342_zpshvjwnch4.jpg Shot from Door. It lifts like a bunkhouse. With the storage under the bunk. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071457_zpsy09duupj.jpg No additional panels None missing. Like the Vinyl Top! Has a really dense foam Original mattress. With a red and stripe cover. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071405_zpsfygugsor.jpg You're right VERY heavy canvas with like a Sumbrella type roof, Stitched very well. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071419_zps9o8lqkm4.jpg High quality Nylon large zippers. Boxed steel frame. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071430_zpszkwqycc9.jpg The tongue is hollow channel to allow the Front Jack to recess into it. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071507_zpsuxnk5kct.jpg Super large and nice lights with heavy duty wiring. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071627_zpsbwiuf98o.jpg The cargo area is Flat and square with outdoor nylon carpet throughout It has a Light in the cargo area. The supports are of the lift and auto latch style. Lift again to drop it down. No ID I can find anywhere. It has a PA title and a PA Special Plate Tag. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071319_zpsk0nffpun.jpg The ONLY plate besides the PA title ID tag. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d139/usmcxterra/Venture%202008/20140807_071521_zpsk1wvp63x.jpg It has the Dexter type suspension, so this tire sticking out past the frame worries me. But it was a rough ride home and lots of bumps and dips and no sign of scrape. I think this is an oversized tire. Should I not try to get them inside the fender? Try to ho upload some pictures. Its grinding Uploads.
