  1. Thanks for the prayers everyone. I am a little battered and bruised but I'm doing fine. Went to the Dr. today and no broken bones or any severe damage. I do have a slightly pinched nerve in my left hip due too swelling, but that should go away in a few days. The doc put me on some pain pills and took me off of work till Sunday. Now I'm just gonna lay around the house and get better... Then worry about how to fix the bike.....
  2. Glad to hear that you are both OK. Bring that wreckage along to M.D. at Orlins next year and we will get all put back together.. Prayers for a speedy rocovery for you and your wife.
  3. Did you get the second gen cause its time to slow down a little in life? Lol... Its a great looking bike..:rotf:
  4. I bought a gauge set like the one pictured a few weeks ago from Dennis kirk for $89 with free shipping. I've used gauges on all of my bikes over the years and found that they are the easiest to work with, and they last for many years.
  5. I have this same set of gauges. That is an adjustment screw on the face. All you have to do is carefully remove the plastic cover by gently twisting it:301:
  6. Let me know when you get it home and are ready to go for a cruise. I'm always up for a ride with no apparent agenda..
  7. Believe it or not the bike will run with this unit in the bike. I just decided to take a look at it to see if maybe that's why it was running a little different from every run I went on.
  8. Here is a pic of the other side of the board. Im gonna get the diodes and put them in and give it a try anyway
  9. Best advice i can give you for the gas cap is to try some PB Blast. Spray it around the lock and wait overnight to give it a try. If that dont work i myself have jammed a screwdriver in the lock and turn it. you will have to replace the lock but it will open up
  10. Silverado, I would love to get the ignitech unit, but the only way that is gonna happen for me is if they accept a payment plan.. lol. So far if it could go wrong it did for me this year. My funds are extremely depleted.
  11. Well I dont think Im gonna be able to repair my TCI. Once I opened it up all the way and looked at the other side of the board im pretty sure its toast. Ill upload a pic or two of it tonight. Thanks for all the suggestions though guys. You were a big help. I even found everything I needed to do the repair. The only thing left to do was stop and pickup some solid core wire..:depressed:
  12. not really sure. from what I could see just trying to look under the board without undoing the solder to take it out they dont look to good. it looked like one was gone. or at least there is something that is gone anyway. just u stub is sticking up off of the board
  13. I will see what I can pick up in the morning. This one still works just not to its capabilities
  14. I can give it a try. thanks for the help guys. im not the greatest at soldering though
  15. In trying to find my Gremlin I decided to take a look at the TCI on my 84VR. Well I just may have found it. Part of the board is badly corroded I can see at least one broken connection and what looks to be a few loose ones. give it a gentle shake and something rattles. Does anyone have one laying around they could give up fairly cheap? Im desperate. Being this is my only transportation to and from work at this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
  16. Was that plug wet when you took it out? Have you tried taking the air filter out and looking down through the air box to see if all of your slides are moving freely. If you know the problem is #2 I'd say you have a bigger problem than just a vacuum leak
  17. I was able to get a good carb sync 3 times with a pretty good vacuum leak. It took me awhile to figure out what was wrong because I thought the same thing
  18. WD40 works. I used starting fluid when I checked mine cause I already had it laying around. I've also seen some people use a propane torch, not sure how well that works though
  19. 5 1/2 turns is way too much. 3 1/2 is usually the max you want to be turned out. At 5 1/2. You are making a very rich condition. You may need to replace your main jet or at least clean it. Check and make sure the carbs are seated all the way in the boots on the bottom also.
  20. If you have a local truck wash nearby you anywhere they usually have an acid bath you could do to help take off all the tarnish and pitting. You will have to take your time polishing them back up but it is definitely worth it. Before I moved to where I am now I used to take my bikes and have an acid bath every spring.
  21. If you take your time and go slowly you can cut it down yourself and sand the edges to round them and you want even be able to tell.
  22. I am going through a similar issue with my 84 VR. Check your carb sync and make sure your carbs are all seated nicely all the way down in the boots. I found that my #1 and #2 carbs were popped up and not seated all the way. Once I put them into place and got another carb sync done she started running better. I am still waiting to see if its a lasting cure. I do need to sync again though after what I'm pretty sure is sabotage by a psychotic neighbor. I'll post my results next week hopefully...
  23. I have been having fuel mileage issues and irratic running on my 84 VR. one day i would get about 40 mpg and the next day I would get 34 mpg. It would run nice and smooth for a day or two and then run ok but not that great. Ive had the carbs synced twice thank to Orlin. And I really appreciate him doing that for me the first 2 times. Still didnt fix it though. So today I decided I was gonna try and find the problem and check on a couple other things. What I found was that the #1 and #2 carbs were not seated all the way down in the boots. Once I got them seated and fired it up it was running extremely rich, so once again I was off to Orlins for another carb sync. Ran great on the way home afterwards. It felt like a completely different bike. And while at Orlins he discovered a few spots where cords were starting to show on my front tire so while I was there we swapped my tire and rim for one in better condition. Thanks for looking out for me Orlin...... I will let you all know at the end of the week how its running. I will be filling up with a fresh tank of gas after work in the morning...
  24. I could use a radio and cb. My 84 VR has nothing on it except foe speakers. I could also use a dashboard with the light for the cruise control. My dash has been replaced by a previous owner and does not have the cruise light so my cruise control won't work
